Used 2023 Volkswagen Jetta for Sale nearBirmingham, AL

How much does the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 2,726 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta a good car?

Yes — with a 5/5 user rating and a 6.83/10 expert rating, you’re looking at a car that clearly connects with shoppers while still earning a respectable expert score. The Jetta’s appeal comes through in its comfortable cabin, pleasant interior design, and ride-and-handling balance, while the expert review also points to its practical family-car mission rather than a flashy personality.

The standout strength is Form and function at 8/10.

The trade-offs are just as clear: the styling is uninspired, and performance can feel sluggish. That makes the Jetta a better fit if you want a sensible sedan with everyday comfort and a calm driving character instead of something sporty.

Good and great deals account for 38.7% of listings, which suggests you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The Jetta’s practical setup, comfortable ride, and straightforward family-car focus support that impression, and the expert review also highlights its solid everyday usability.

The performance notes point to a front-drive sedan with enough power for daily use, while the cost-effectiveness coverage adds free scheduled maintenance for two years or 20,000 miles and no-charge roadside assistance for three years and 36,000 miles. That combination helps reduce early ownership friction.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about complexity and more about whether the car has been maintained and driven in line with its modest performance limits.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Volkswagen Jetta?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a car with incomplete service records. Focus on overall condition, because the Jetta’s value depends heavily on whether it has been kept clean, maintained, and free of avoidable wear.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S, Sport, SE, SEL, and GLI trims span the lineup, and the base model is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment. The SEL stands out for its upgraded digital dials, larger infotainment screen, ambient lighting, genuine leather upholstery, and oversized power sunroof, while the GLI is a separate sport-tuned model with added power and more rewarding driving dynamics.
• Powertrain: The standard setup is a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder with 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. S and Sport trims use a six-speed manual as standard, while SE and SEL use an eight-speed automatic; the automatic can feel delayed before the turbo builds thrust, and all-wheel drive is unavailable.
• Safety package: SE and SEL trims get IQ.Drive, which includes Travel Assist and Emergency Assist. Travel Assist combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assist, and Emergency Assist can bring the car to a safe stop if the driver becomes unresponsive. Lower trims do not get this package.
• Infotainment: SEL trim upgrades the infotainment touchscreen to 8.0 inches and adds a 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro display. It also supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Car-Net connected services with remote and safety features.
• Fuel efficiency: The SEL’s official EPA rating is 33 mpg in combined driving, and the review notes a real-world average of 30 mpg on a mountainous test loop.

Which 2023 Volkswagen Jetta trim should I buy?

The 2023 Volkswagen Jetta is offered in 5 trim levels: S, Sport, SE, SEL, and GLI.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Jetta lineup. You get the core sedan formula, but you give up the richer cabin and tech upgrades that make the higher trims feel more complete.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim if you want a little more equipment without jumping too far up the price ladder. It keeps the Jetta’s practical character while adding a more appealing feature mix than the base model.
• SE: This is the trim to target if you want the standard IQ.Drive safety package and a more well-rounded daily-driver setup. It adds a stronger safety and convenience story without pushing all the way to luxury-like pricing.
• SEL: This is the trim to buy if you want the most polished version of the standard Jetta. It brings the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro, the 8.0-inch infotainment screen, wireless smartphone integration, and a more upscale cabin feel.
• GLI: This is the choice if you want the sportier Jetta experience. It adds the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, retuned suspension, and more engaging driving dynamics, so it suits you best if performance matters more than value.

The safety-package sweet spot is SE and SEL, since those trims get IQ.Drive standard.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Volkswagen Jetta?

This looks like a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,726 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,487, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta's resale value?

The current average of $19,546 sits slightly below last year's $19,714.

That small decline suggests the Jetta is holding value in a fairly stable way rather than swinging sharply up or down. For you as a future seller, that usually means pricing should remain predictable if the car stays clean and well maintained.

The current market also shows enough inventory to keep competition real, so condition and equipment will matter when you go to sell. A well-kept Jetta with desirable trim content should be easier to position than one that feels stripped or worn.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Volkswagen Jetta safe?

The 2023 Volkswagen Jetta earns five-star ratings from NHTSA overall, but it also earns four-star ratings for frontal-impact protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rates it Poor in a new moderate overlap frontal-impact crash test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive suite is standard on the SE and SEL trims. It includes Travel Assist, which combines adaptive cruise control with lane-centering assist, and Emergency Assist, which can stop the car if the driver becomes unresponsive. The system is impressive overall, but the review notes occasional inaccurate lane-departure warnings and some unnatural steering input.

That IIHS result is the main caveat to keep in mind if safety is a top priority for you.

Should I buy a 2023 Volkswagen Jetta or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2023 stands out for its comfortable cabin, pleasant interior design, and strong ride-and-handling balance.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $17,675, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $19,546 average.
• It offers a value-minded refresh with upgraded technology and more standard features.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping pool and a model year with stable pricing, the 2023 is the cleaner choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2022 is the smarter price-sensitive path, especially if you find one in good condition with the equipment you want.
