About 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid
The Corolla Cross debuted in 2022, and for 2023, Toyota introduced a new hybrid version of the Corolla-based utility vehicle. ## What’s New for the 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross The Corolla Cross Hybrid is all-new for 2023, so there hasn’t been enough time for updates. ## Design The Corolla Cross Hybrid follows the gas model in taking the Corolla Sedan’s look and translating it directly to a small crossover. The front-end design screams Corolla, from the headlights to the grille shape, and the available two-tone paint gives the Hybrid a unique, sporty look. Wheel sizes include 17 and 18 inches, and the XSE trim adds slightly more aggressive styling. ## Powertrain The Corolla Cross Hybrid gets a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor. The combo makes 196 horsepower and 139 pound-feet of torque, and all-wheel drive is standard. Power reaches all four wheels through a continuously variable transmission, and acceleration edges out the gas model with a still-unimpressive 0-60 mph time of around eight seconds. Though tepid, acceleration feels stronger because of the electric motor’s instant torque, but the Corolla Cross Hybrid isn’t quick by any measure. ## Interior The Corolla Cross Hybrid’s interior isn’t anything to write home about, as it offers plenty of hard plastics and isn’t all that exciting to look at. Cloth upholstery comes standard, but higher trims add synthetic leather and heated front seats. There’s good room in the front, and adults can ride comfortably in the back seats, though legroom is lacking for taller people. Cargo space is slightly short of the gas model, at 21.5 cubic feet with the seats up and 61.8 with them folded flat. ## Technology Toyota equips an 8-inch touchscreen and a small 4.2-inch display in the gauge cluster. Higher trim levels add a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, and all models come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless phone charging, an upgraded JBL stereo, additional USB ports, and automatic climate controls are available. Toyota made improvements to its infotainment system that have given it a much more intuitive feel and responsive performance. It’s still not as good as the industry-leading systems from Ford and Stellantis, but it’s much better than it used to be. ## Safety The Corolla Cross Hybrid comes standard with a load of advanced driver aids, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warnings, lane departure alerts, automatic high beams, rear seat alerts, and pedestrian detection. Adaptive headlights, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, and parking sensors are available. ## Pricing The 2023 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid starts at $27,970 before taxes, options, and destination. The top Hybrid XSE trim starts at $31,065, and buyers can add up to another $2,665 to the price with the available convenience package.
