Used 2023 Toyota 4Runner for Sale nearOlympia, WA

How much does the 2023 Toyota 4Runner cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 3,466 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner a good car?

Yes — the 2023 Toyota 4Runner earns a 4.78/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, and strong performance. They also highlight the spacious third row, the interior layout, and the feature set, which makes it appealing if you want a family-friendly SUV with a loyal following.

The trade-offs are clear: it is less appealing if you care about poor fuel economy and poor on-road handling. The 4Runner makes the most sense if you want a traditional SUV that is spacious, easy to use, and geared toward off-road driving rather than everyday refinement.

Good and great deals account for 36.8% of listings, so you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner reliable?

Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback repeatedly points to reliability, dependability, and a vehicle you can count on over time. The expert review also describes it as having a reputation for legendary reliability and feeling indestructible, which reinforces the long-term ownership case.

Toyota also includes free scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that durability does not erase age-related wear, especially if the vehicle has seen hard use or off-road miles.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota 4Runner?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.

Start with the vehicle history report, then prioritize a careful inspection of the suspension, brakes, tires, and underbody if the SUV has been used off-road. You should also pay close attention to interior condition and how well the technology and safety features work, since those are part of the 4Runner’s value proposition.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes SR5, TRD Sport, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, 40th Anniversary Special Edition, Limited, and TRD Pro. The base SR5 is the simplest version, while the 40th Anniversary Special Edition adds retro styling touches, bronze accents, and standard four-wheel drive.
• Powertrain: Every 2023 4Runner uses a 4.0-liter V6 with 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard unless you choose a 4WD-equipped trim or option, and fuel economy is 17 mpg combined.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder system. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on every trim level.
• Infotainment: The biggest touchscreen is 8 inches, and the system includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, Amazon Alexa compatibility, and available connected services. You can also add navigation, additional connected services, and a JBL premium sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The 4Runner is rated at 17 mpg in combined driving, and the review notes that it has poor fuel economy.

Which 2023 Toyota 4Runner trim should I buy?

Here's the short version:

• SR5: This is the entry point if you want the most affordable way into the 4Runner lineup and are comfortable with the simplest setup.
• TRD Sport: Choose this if you want a version tuned more for on-road athleticism than the base model.
• SR5 Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and equipment while staying below the off-road-focused and special-edition models.
• TRD Off-Road: Pick this if you want the off-road hardware and capability focus that defines the 4Runner’s appeal.
• TRD Off-Road Premium: This makes sense if you want the off-road capability of the TRD Off-Road with more comfort and convenience.

• Limited: Choose this if you want the more road-oriented, upscale side of the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota 4Runner?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,466 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $41,409, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner's resale value?

The current average of $43,897 sits slightly below last year's $44,145.

That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is usually a good sign if you plan to sell later. It means the 4Runner is not losing value sharply, but it also is not showing strong upward momentum.

For a future seller, that points to a model that should remain relatively easy to price and compare against similar listings. Strong demand for rugged SUVs and the 4Runner’s reputation for reliability help support buyer interest.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Toyota 4Runner safe?

The 2023 Toyota 4Runner earns four-star ratings from NHTSA overall, with three-star ratings for front passenger protection in a frontal-impact collision and rollover resistance. It also receives a Marginal rating for driver protection in the small overlap frontal-impact test from IIHS.

It earns a 3/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder system. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on every trim level.

The main caveat is that the crash-test results lag behind newer rivals, especially in rollover resistance and the IIHS small-overlap result. That means you should treat safety as a key consideration if you regularly carry family or spend a lot of time on highways.

Should I buy a 2023 Toyota 4Runner or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 36.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $39,380, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $43,897 average.
• It offers rugged capability with modern infotainment and safety tech.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $47,153, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $43,897 average.
• It emphasizes reliability, durability, and off-road capability.

The bottom line: The 2023 is the right pick if you want the current-year mix of stable pricing, strong owner satisfaction, and standard safety upgrades. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2022 is the better value path; if you want to spend more for a newer listing, the 2024 is the natural alternative.
