Is the 2023 Subaru Ascent a good car?

Generally — the 2023 Subaru Ascent earns a 4.4/5 user rating, and owners repeatedly point to safety features, comfort, and family-friendly spaciousness as major strengths. The review summary also highlights driving performance and fuel economy as positives, which matters if you want a three-row SUV that feels useful in everyday driving. In practical terms, the Ascent fits shoppers who want a family-focused SUV with standard all-wheel drive and a roomy cabin, even if the third row is not its strongest suit. With 38.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.

Is the 2023 Subaru Ascent reliable?

Owners rate it 4.4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The review summary points to a vehicle that owners see as dependable and trouble-free enough to recommend for family use, with safety and comfort reinforcing that impression. That said, used buyers should still think about long-term ownership risk in the usual way: verify maintenance history, inspect wear items carefully, and make sure the vehicle has been cared for consistently.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Subaru Ascent?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any listing you like, even if the market looks clean overall. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the third row, seat comfort, and overall interior condition, since those are the areas owners most often notice in daily use. It also makes sense to pay close attention to how the SUV has been used, because family vehicles can show wear in the cabin faster than the odometer suggests.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Subaru Ascent?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,873 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.69% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,277, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Subaru Ascent's resale value?

The current average of $29,277 sits slightly below last year's $32,064.

That softer pricing can help you buy more affordably now, but it also means future resale values may reflect a market that has already adjusted downward. If you plan to sell later, the current trend suggests you should focus on buying well and keeping the vehicle in strong condition so you have less depreciation to absorb. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2023 Subaru Ascent or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 38.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.69% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $24,920, the 2022 costs less than the current year's $29,277 average.
• It adds an Onyx Edition with blacked-out trim and water-resistant upholstery.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $31,986, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $29,277 average.
• It carries over with almost no changes and keeps Subaru’s standard all-wheel-drive setup.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, owner satisfaction, and current-market availability, the 2023 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2022 is the better secondary option because it undercuts the current-year average while still delivering the Ascent’s core family-hauling strengths.
