Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In stands out first for its redesigned look. Kia gave the Niro dramatic new styling for the 2023 model year, and the plug-in hybrid version also received a revamped interior along with the rest of the Niro lineup. That fresh design helps the Niro feel more distinctive than a typical plug-in hybrid crossover, and it is part of what gives the model its appeal.
Beyond the styling, the 2023 Niro PHEV is notable for being one of three powertrain choices in the Niro family, alongside hybrid and all-electric versions. The plug-in hybrid also brings more power and electric range than the previous-generation Niro PHEV. Buyers looking for a practical small crossover may also appreciate its spacious cabin and strong warranty.
There are tradeoffs, though. The 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In is described as sluggish, and it does not offer all-wheel drive. Cargo space is also limited, which may matter to shoppers who want more utility from a crossover.

Very comfortable, quiet, energy-efficient car that will save money by running mostly on electricity rather than gas.

This car is amazing, tech is easy to use, driving is really nice. Great turning radius. Haven’t really done lots of highway yet. I bought the EX model ( basic) because that’s all that was available, aside from missing a few cosmetic upgrades and sunroof, this car has all the engine and tech of more expensive models AND the tire size cost half of the SV model which for those of us who need snow tires is a nice break!! A quality vehicle, tighter drive and specs than Toyota and Ford. The ev experience is wonderful, combustion engine remains in the background until needed . Some other PHEV brands seem to run the combustion engine too easily. Too bad about the fed tax credit, certainly would help sell more!!

I just got this car a few days ago and I love it! The smart driving assist is comparable to that of Tesla. The auto hold feature is so smart as well. Great purchase!

2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In Price Trends
CarGurus tracks the prices of millions of used car listings every year. See how the average price of 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In prices has changed over time.
See more price trendsIs the 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In a good car?
Yes — you rate it 5/5, and our experts give it 7.17/10. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the tech features, comfortable ride, and space inside. They also call out the vehicle’s efficiency and performance in electric mode as standout traits. On the other hand, the expert review points to sluggish performance and limited cargo space, and the overview notes that it does not offer all-wheel drive.
For a practical small crossover, that mix makes the Niro Hybrid Plug-In appealing if you value style, efficiency, and a well-equipped cabin more than outright utility or quick acceleration. The market signal is also encouraging, with 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also emphasizes that it feels reliable, dependable, and trouble-free, with many drivers highlighting its efficiency and the confidence they have in it over time.
The expert review adds that Kia’s powertrain setup is designed to be straightforward and familiar, which can help long-term ownership feel less complicated. Kia also backs it with a 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty and a five-year, 60,000-mile limited warranty.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a plug-in hybrid adds complexity, so you should pay close attention to battery health, charging behavior, and service history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In?
Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a plug-in hybrid where charging hardware, software behavior, and battery-related wear matter. Focus on cabin condition and cargo-area usability too, since owners specifically mention storage limitations and the missing cargo cover. If you want the best example, look for a car that shows careful use and complete maintenance records.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base EX gives you the redesigned look and a strong feature set, but the SX Touring adds more equipment. The base trim still gets the core safety and tech content, so the biggest gap is in convenience and upscale touches rather than essential protection.
- Powertrain: The plug-in hybrid uses a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission, a more powerful electric motor, and an 11.1-kilowatt-hour battery pack. It makes 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, and it is front-wheel drive only.
- Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a driver attention monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit warning, rear occupant alert, blind-spot collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and navigation-based curve prediction. Highway Driving Assist II is optional.
- Infotainment: The standard setup includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wired Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Digital Key 2.0 is also available for compatible devices.
- Fuel efficiency: Kia expects an all-electric range of 33 miles with the standard 16-inch wheels. The overview also notes that the plug-in hybrid brings more electric range than the previous-generation model.
Which 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In trim should I buy?
The 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In is offered in 2 trim levels: EX and SX Touring.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The EX is the value play if you want the redesigned Niro PHEV without stretching to the higher-priced version. It already includes the core safety suite, the large dual-screen setup, and the plug-in hybrid powertrain, so you are not giving up the essentials.
- Premium/top trim: The SX Touring is the better pick if you want the most upscale version of the Niro PHEV and are willing to pay more for it. It is the trim to target if you care most about added equipment and a more premium feel.
The safety package is strong across the lineup, with standard adaptive cruise control and navigation-based curve prediction, while Highway Driving Assist II remains optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In?
This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you should shop carefully and move quickly when you find a strong listing.
- Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 88 listings available.
- Clean inventory: 93.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $24,506, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In safe?
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard driver-assist features include forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, a driver attention monitor, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit warning, rear occupant alert, blind-spot collision avoidance, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and navigation-based curve prediction. Highway Driving Assist II, which adds automated lane centering, is optional.
Because crash-test ratings from IIHS and NHTSA were not available at the time of publication, you should lean more heavily on the standard safety equipment and the optional lane-centering system when comparing used examples.
Should I buy a 2023 Kia Niro Hybrid Plug-In or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2023 model brings a redesigned look, a revamped interior, and more power and electric range than the previous-generation Niro PHEV.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Niro PHEV with stronger styling, a better cabin, and solid owner satisfaction, the 2023 model is the one to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, it makes sense to compare listings closely and wait for a well-priced example, since the market still has a meaningful share of good or great deals.
