Good and great deals account for 34.9% of listings, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Ford’s cost-effectiveness notes also mention that the truck can be configured with a wide range of equipment, which gives you flexibility to match the truck to your needs without overbuying. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is ending up with a heavily optioned or hard-worked example that has seen more wear than the average truck.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Ford F-150?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has towing, hauling, or off-road use in its past. Focus on overall condition, because the test-drive notes point to ride quality and interior-material quality as areas where wear or owner use may be more noticeable.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans regular, Super Cab, and SuperCrew body styles, with trims ranging from XL to Raptor R. The XLT Heritage Edition adds two-tone paint, unique cloth seat inserts, and exclusive 75 Years interior details, while the XLT test truck also showed how feature content can climb quickly with packages and options.
• Powertrain: The test truck used the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with 400 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Ford also offers numerous engine options, and the truck can be configured with four-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 includes automatic high-beam headlights, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, automatic reverse braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, intersection assist for left turns, and speed-sign recognition. Some of these features are package-dependent rather than universal.
• Infotainment: Sync 4 brings a 12-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air software updates, and FordPass Connect with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The system is easy to use, but response speed and readability are worth checking on a test drive.
• Fuel efficiency: The test truck was rated at 19 mpg combined by the EPA and returned 17 mpg in testing.

Which 2023 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2023 Ford F-150 is offered in 8 trim levels: XL, XLT, XLT Heritage Edition, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, Tremor, and Raptor R.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the work-focused starting point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and plan to keep the truck simple.
• XLT: This is the best-value choice for most shoppers because it adds the core tech and comfort features that make the F-150 feel modern without pushing the price too far.
• XLT Heritage Edition: Choose this if you want the XLT’s value with a more distinctive look and special interior details.
• Lariat: Step up here if you want more comfort and the option to access the adaptive damping suspension mentioned in the test-drive notes.
• King Ranch: This is for buyers who want a more upscale, premium-feeling truck.
• Platinum: Pick this if you want a higher-end cabin and a more luxury-oriented F-150 experience.
• Tremor: This is the better fit if you want a more rugged setup and the off-road-oriented character referenced in the expert notes.
• Raptor R: This is the extreme performance choice, with the supercharged V8 and 37-inch all-terrain tires making it the halo model.

Ford’s safety package is broad, but some advanced driver-assistance features are package-dependent, so verify exactly what is installed on any used truck you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Ford F-150?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully but still enough demand to reward quick action on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 9,660 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.86% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $41,484, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2023 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $41,484 sits slightly below last year's $43,604.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well now, you may have a better chance of limiting depreciation pressure later, especially if you choose a desirable trim and keep the truck in clean condition.

The broad appeal of the F-150 helps support demand, and the strong owner satisfaction score is another positive sign for long-term desirability. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.94/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2023 Ford F-150 safe?

The 2023 Ford F-150 earns high marks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and nothing but five-star ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), coupled with a four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes automatic high-beam headlights, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, automatic reverse braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-centering assist, evasive steering assist, intersection assist for left turns, and speed-sign recognition.

The expert notes also point out that lane-centering can be a little aggressive in some situations, so you should test those systems on roads similar to your daily driving. The surround-view camera and parking sensors are especially useful, and the post-collision braking system adds another layer of protection after an impact.

Should I buy a 2023 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90.7% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.86% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.94/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year adds the Raptor R and the XLT Heritage Edition, expanding both the performance and special-edition appeal.

Consider the 2024 if:

• At $45,600, the 2024 costs more than the current year's $41,484 average.
• It adds a standard 12-inch touchscreen and an updated BlueCruise system.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2023 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and broad trim choice. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model with a few thoughtful updates, the 2024 is the better secondary path.
