Is the 2023 BMW M5 a good car?

The 2023 BMW M5 blends serious performance with everyday usability, which is a big part of its appeal. It uses a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 with 600 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque, and BMW’s rear-biased xDrive system helps it feel composed in all kinds of weather while still allowing a rear-driver character when stability control is turned off. It is still a large, expensive performance sedan, so it makes the most sense if you want speed and daily comfort in one package. 39.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2023 BMW M5 reliable?

The 2023 BMW M5 is a high-performance sedan that can deliver everyday usability alongside its serious pace. It is still a large, expensive performance car, and BMW’s own history with the M5 suggests you should expect high ownership costs and avoid neglected or heavily modified examples. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is more about maintenance discipline and prior care than simple mileage alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2023 BMW M5?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and verify that the car has a clean maintenance record. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a performance sedan like this, with extra attention on signs of hard use, modifications, and overall condition. Focus on how the car was maintained and whether it shows evidence of careful ownership.

What is the 2023 BMW M5's resale value?

The current average of $82,933 sits slightly below last year's $89,947.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more confidently today. If you keep the car clean, stock, and well maintained, you should be in a better position when it is time to sell.

Should I buy a 2023 BMW M5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2023 if:

• 39.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91.8% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.80% compared with last year.

Consider the 2022 if:

• It adds the M5 CS, the most extreme and track-focused version of the lineup.

The bottom line:
You should start with the 2023 if you want the newer sixth-generation setup, strong inventory quality, and a softer price environment. If you are more price-sensitive or want the most extreme version of the nameplate, the 2022 is worth a look because it brings the M5 CS and a more focused performance character.
