What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volvo XC60?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a full records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on electronics, safety systems, and overall condition, especially if the vehicle has higher mileage or optional equipment. Pay close attention to how the infotainment system, driver-assistance features, and ride quality work in real-world use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes Momentum, R-Design, Inscription, and Polestar Engineered versions, with the base Momentum missing some of the richer features found higher up. The Inscription trim level gets Nappa leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel, while the R-Design adds a sportier look and feel.
• Powertrain: The B5 mild hybrid uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with a 48-volt electrical system, while the B6 adds an electric supercharger and more output. The plug-in hybrid version brings a rear electric motor and much stronger performance.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic post-collision braking, a driver-attention monitor, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. Pilot Assist is available as part of an option package.
• Infotainment: You get a 9-inch touchscreen with Android Automotive, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Bluetooth, built-in WiFi hotspot, Google Assistant, Google Maps, OTA updates, and full iPhone compatibility.
• Fuel efficiency: The B5 returns 26 mpg combined, 23 mpg city, and 30 mpg highway with FWD, or 24 mpg combined, 22 mpg city, and 28 mpg highway with AWD. The B6 is rated at 24 mpg combined, 21 mpg city, and 27 mpg highway.

Which 2022 Volvo XC60 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volvo XC60 is offered in 7 trim levels: B5 Momentum, B5 R-Design, B5 Inscription, B6, B6 R-Design, B6 Inscription, and Polestar Engineered.

Here's the short version:

• B5 Momentum: This is the entry point, and it makes the XC60’s style, safety, and tech easier to access at the lowest price. It is the best-value choice if you want the core XC60 experience without paying for extra luxury or performance upgrades.
• B5 R-Design: Choose this if you want a sportier appearance and a more expressive cabin without moving into the pricier powertrains. It suits you if design matters as much as everyday comfort.
• B5 Inscription: This is the trim to pick if you want the most upscale feel from the B5 lineup, including Nappa leather upholstery and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It is the best fit if you want a more premium cabin without stepping up to the B6.
• B6: This trim adds the stronger mild-hybrid powertrain and AWD, so it is the right choice if you want more power and standard all-weather traction. It is the best fit for buyers who value smoother, stronger acceleration over entry-level pricing.
• B6 R-Design: This is the version Volvo used for its test car, and it pairs the stronger B6 setup with a sportier presentation. Pick it if you want the more engaging powertrain and a sharper look.
• B6 Inscription: This is the upscale route for shoppers who want the B6 powertrain plus a more luxurious cabin. It makes sense if comfort and refinement matter more than appearance tweaks.
• Polestar Engineered: This is the performance-oriented plug-in hybrid choice, with much higher output and hardware upgrades like adjustable dampers and stronger brakes. It is the right pick if you want the most performance-focused XC60.

Standard safety features are a major part of the XC60’s appeal, and Pilot Assist is available as an option-package feature.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volvo XC60?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,320 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.96% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 88.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,014, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volvo XC60's resale value?

The current average of $27,014 sits slightly below last year's $32,143.

That price movement suggests the XC60 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. For a later seller, that means your biggest advantage will be entering ownership at a lower basis than buyers who purchased when prices were higher. Strong condition, clean history, and desirable equipment should matter more when it comes time to resell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC60 safe?

The 2022 Volvo XC60 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS, and the 2021 model received a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in frontal and side crash tests and four-star ratings in rollover crash tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, automatic post-collision braking, a driver-attention monitor, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert. New-for-2022 features include Ready to Drive Notification and Emergency Stop Assist. Pilot Assist is available as part of an option package, so not every XC60 gets that driver-assistance setup.

Should I buy a 2022 Volvo XC60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 88.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds new mild-hybrid powertrains, updated styling, and Android-based infotainment.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $23,697, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $27,014 average.
• It offers a more established, premium-feeling XC60 with strong safety and comfort.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $33,076, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $27,014 average.
• It leans into plug-in hybrid efficiency and electric-only driving.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around pick if you want the updated tech and powertrain lineup at a softened used price. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2021 is the better value play, while the 2023 makes sense if you want the plug-in hybrid experience and can pay more.
