How much does the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta cost?

There are 1,385 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 8/10.

Owners consistently praise the sleek design, smooth performance, spacious interior, comfy seats, and impressive fuel economy. The cabin also gets credit for being well designed and for pairing modern technology with everyday comfort.

The trade-offs are the new dashboard layout and the change in emergency brake design, along with a driving character that is more practical than exciting. That fits the Jetta’s role as a comfort-focused compact sedan for shoppers who want efficiency and value over performance.

Good and great deals account for 35.9% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that feels dependable, with owners highlighting smooth performance, impressive fuel economy, and a comfortable, well-designed interior that supports everyday use. The overall tone suggests a sedan you can count on for routine commuting and long-term ownership.

The expert drive notes reinforce that impression with a comfortable cockpit, supportive seats, and a powertrain that handles highway travel without drama. The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps lower early ownership costs.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about living with the Jetta’s touchy low-speed behavior and mixed tech usability over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volkswagen Jetta?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the electronics, driver-assistance functions, and interior controls, since the Jetta’s tech is a major part of its appeal. Focus on condition details that affect daily use, including seat wear, dashboard operation, and how smoothly the powertrain behaves in stop-and-go traffic.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup was simplified to S, Sport, SE, and SEL, with the Sport replacing the outgoing R-Line and the SEL Premium dropped. The base S is the most stripped-down version, while the upper trims add more standard equipment and a more premium feel.
• Powertrain: The Jetta uses a single 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 158 hp and 184 pound-feet of torque. You can get a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic, and the automatic is the only transmission on SE and SEL.
• Safety package: IQ.Drive is the umbrella driver-assistance suite. S and Sport get blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning with automatic braking and pedestrian recognition. The Driver Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist on automatic models, while SE and SEL include the full IQ.Drive safety list.
• Infotainment: S, Sport, and SE use a 6.5-inch MIB2 system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink, Bluetooth, two USB-C ports, and an SD card multimedia interface. SEL upgrades to an 8-inch MIB3 system with navigation, wireless App-Connect, wireless device charging, multi-phone pairing, and enhanced voice recognition.
• Fuel efficiency: The manual is rated at 29 mpg city, 43 mpg highway, and 34 mpg combined. Automatic S and Sport models are rated at 31 mpg city, 41 mpg highway, and 35 mpg combined, while automatic SE and SEL models are rated at 29 mpg city, 40 mpg highway, and 33 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Volkswagen Jetta trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta is offered in 4 trim levels: S, Sport, SE, and SEL.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Jetta formula with the standard engine, the basic infotainment setup, and the essential driver-assistance features. It makes sense if you want the lowest price and are comfortable with fewer comfort and tech upgrades.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more appealing equipment mix without jumping all the way to the top of the range. It also keeps the Jetta’s practical character while giving you a stronger feature set than the base model.
• SE: This is the trim to target if you want the full IQ.Drive safety list and a more complete everyday setup. It’s the better choice if safety tech and convenience matter more than saving every dollar.
• SEL: This is the most upscale version, with the 8-inch MIB3 system, wireless App-Connect, wireless charging, and the 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro. Choose it if you want the most advanced tech and the most premium feel in the lineup.

The full IQ.Drive safety list is standard on SE and SEL trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volkswagen Jetta?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,385 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.61% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,792, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta's resale value?

The current average of $17,792 sits slightly below last year's $18,850.

That price movement suggests the Jetta has already absorbed some near-term depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the current average or below, you may have less downside than someone who paid closer to last year’s higher market level.

The model’s value proposition is also supported by its strong owner satisfaction and practical appeal, which can help keep demand steady in the used market. Well-equipped, fuel-efficient compact sedans tend to remain attractive to budget-conscious shoppers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta safe?

The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta has yet to receive crash safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard IQ.Drive brings blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and forward-collision warning with automatic braking and pedestrian recognition on S and Sport trims. The Driver Assistance package adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keep assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist on automatic models, while SE and SEL include the full IQ.Drive safety list.

One caveat is that Travel Assist is not a hands-free system, and the expert drive found it could need extra guidance on sweeping highway curves. The Jetta’s earlier-generation crash results also showed weak spots in headlights testing, with low scores in that area.

Should I buy a 2022 Volkswagen Jetta or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.61% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds more standard features, upgraded tech, and a revised powertrain for the refresh year.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $19,564, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $17,792 average.
• It adds a more polished interior and stronger tech focus.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2022 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with a refreshed feature set and strong owner satisfaction. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year and a slightly more polished presentation, the 2023 is the cleaner upgrade path.
