Used 2022 Toyota Highlander for Sale nearSalt Lake City, UT

How much does the 2022 Toyota Highlander cost?

Prices have softened 7.37% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 4,622 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Toyota Highlander earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Cost effectiveness.

You get a family-focused three-row SUV that emphasizes space, a smooth ride, and standard safety equipment. Owners consistently praise its safety, comfort, smooth ride, quality, and stylish design, while the expert review highlights its versatility and practical everyday mission.

The main trade-offs are a cramped third row and some complaints about the infotainment system and driver-seat comfort. For you, that means the Highlander makes the most sense if you want a practical family hauler with a polished feel rather than the most spacious or most cutting-edge cabin.

Good and great deals account for 36.5% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to reliability, safety, comfort, and a smooth ride as recurring strengths, and owners also appreciate its quality and stylish design. The expert review reinforces that dependable, family-first character by describing it as a vehicle that covers the basics well and delivers the kind of versatility shoppers expect from a mainstream three-row SUV.

Toyota backs it with a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, which adds some reassurance for used buyers. Even so, you should still pay close attention to maintenance records and overall condition, since long-term ownership risk is always lower when the previous owner kept up with service.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Highlander?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any listing you like, because clean-looking photos do not tell you whether the SUV has had prior damage or repairs. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a family vehicle like this, since you want to confirm that the cabin, electronics, and safety systems all work as expected. Focus on the third row, infotainment behavior, and seat comfort, since those are the areas that tend to matter most in day-to-day use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup starts with the L trim, which includes an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, pushbutton start, proximity/remote keyless entry, three-zone climate control, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. The LE adds LED fog lights, a smart key system on the door handles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a power liftgate. The XLE adds synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power moonroof, wireless device charging, second-row captain’s chairs, second-row sunshades, and a digital instrument-panel screen. The XSE adds unique exterior styling, ambient interior lighting, 20-inch wheels, and a sport-tuned suspension. The Limited and Platinum bring the most upscale equipment, with the Platinum adding the largest touchscreen and more premium convenience features.
• Powertrain: Every gas Highlander uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 295 horsepower and 263 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, all-wheel drive is available, and the V6 is described as stronger once the SUV is already moving rather than especially lively from a standstill.
• Safety package: Toyota Safety Sense is standard and includes forward collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all but the base L trim, so that trim is the one to scrutinize most closely if safety convenience matters to you.
• Infotainment: The standard setup uses an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa, plus a WiFi hotspot and five USB ports. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not included, though wireless charging is available on higher trims and a 12.3-inch touchscreen is available on the top trim.
• Fuel efficiency: The most efficient gas configurations are the FWD L and FWD XLE, both rated at 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The AWD L, LE, and XLE return 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Toyota Highlander trim should I buy?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander is offered in 6 trim levels: L, LE, XLE, XSE, Limited, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already gives you the core Highlander formula: a V6 engine, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, three-zone climate control, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. If you want the lowest entry price and can live without blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, this is the trim to start with.
• LE: This trim adds useful everyday upgrades like LED fog lights, a smart key system on the door handles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and a power liftgate. It is a sensible step up if you want more convenience without jumping too far in price.
• XLE: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a strong mix of comfort and tech, including synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power moonroof, wireless device charging, second-row captain’s chairs, second-row sunshades, and a digital instrument-panel screen. It also keeps the Highlander feeling family-friendly without pushing into luxury pricing.
• XSE: Choose this if you want the sportier look and feel, since it adds unique exterior styling, ambient interior lighting, 20-inch wheels, a large mesh grille, dual exhaust tips, and a sport-tuned suspension. It is the trim for you if style matters as much as practicality.
• Limited: This is the upscale comfort pick, with heated and ventilated front seats, genuine leather upholstery, acoustic noise-reducing windows, a wall-style power outlet, a hands-free power liftgate, and standard JBL audio. It suits you if you want a more premium cabin without going all the way to the top trim.
• Platinum: This is the most feature-rich Highlander, adding adaptive headlights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree parking camera, heated second-row seats, a rearview camera mirror, and the larger 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. It is the right choice if you want the most equipment and the most upscale experience.

All trims include Toyota Safety Sense, and all but the base L add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Toyota Highlander?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.

• Deal availability: 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,622 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.37% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 80.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $32,136, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Toyota Highlander's resale value?

The current average of $32,145 sits slightly below last year's $34,704.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may also mean future resale gains are less likely to be dramatic. If you buy at the right price and keep the SUV in clean condition, you should be in a better position to limit depreciation. Strong demand for family-friendly three-row SUVs can still support values, especially when the vehicle has the right equipment and a clean history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Toyota Highlander safe?

The 2022 Toyota Highlander earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Toyota Safety Sense is standard, and it includes forward collision avoidance, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on all but the base L trim, so that trim is the one with the biggest safety-feature gap.

One caveat is that the lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist systems can feel very active, and the lane-centering behavior can be abrasive in some situations. If you want the most complete safety setup, look beyond the base trim.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.37% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 stands out for its standard V6, family-friendly versatility, and broad safety coverage.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $29,618, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $32,145 average.
• It leans heavily on comfort, space, and safety.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger all-around package, the 2022 is the better primary target because it combines a lower current market average than last year, solid deal availability, and strong owner satisfaction. If your main goal is to spend less upfront, the 2021 is the better price-sensitive alternative, especially if you find one with a clean history and the equipment you want.
