Used 2022 Subaru Ascent for Sale near Traverse City, MI

How much does the 2022 Subaru Ascent cost?

Prices have softened 11.63% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,512 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Subaru Ascent earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

It stands out as Subaru’s three-row SUV for you if you need more than five-passenger seating, and it leans into the brand’s strengths with standard all-wheel drive, durability, and confident travel in varied weather and road conditions. The new Onyx Edition adds blacked-out exterior trim and water-resistant upholstery, while the lineup’s practical value helps offset the SUV’s weaker points.

The trade-offs are clear: the third row is cramped, the styling is uninspired, and it performs better with lane-keeping and lane-centering assistance turned off.

Good and great deals account for 37.6% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Ascent’s appeal is built around durability, safety, and getting you where you need to go regardless of weather and road conditions. Its standard all-wheel drive and broad practical focus reinforce that reputation, and the expert review also highlights Subaru’s strong value proposition for family use.

The turbocharged 2.4-liter engine, CVT, and standard AWD are described as a capable, well-matched setup, with brisk acceleration and commendable passing power. The review also notes that the CVT is remarkably good and helps keep the engine in its torque band while reducing revs for quiet cruising.

Subaru also includes value-minded ownership touches, including standard AWD and EyeSight across the lineup.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about basic durability and more about whether the driver-assistance behavior and cabin packaging still suit your needs.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru Ascent?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are strong but not universal. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the third row, the interior condition, and the operation of the driver-assistance systems, especially if you plan to use the SUV for family duty. It also makes sense to confirm that the features you want are present on the exact trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base trim gives you the core Ascent formula, but Premium adds blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and Touring brings additional tech such as a digital rearview mirror and a 180-degree-view front camera.
• Powertrain: Every 2022 Ascent uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 260 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and standard all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard and includes adaptive cruise control with lane-centering technology, while steering responsive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist are also included. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert requires Premium trim or higher.
• Infotainment: Base trim gets a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, HD Radio, satellite radio, and a CD player. Premium upgrades to an 8-inch display with available connected services, including a WiFi hotspot and remote engine starting with climate control pre-conditioning.
• Fuel efficiency: Versions with 20-inch wheels return 22 mpg combined, and the review’s test loop averaged 20.5 mpg.

Which 2022 Subaru Ascent trim should I buy?

The 2022 Subaru Ascent is offered in 5 trim levels: Base, Premium, Onyx Edition, Limited, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the entry point if you want the standard Ascent formula with all-wheel drive, EyeSight, and the basic 6.5-inch infotainment setup. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim because it adds the 8-inch display, available connected services, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert. If you want the most useful upgrade without jumping too far in price, this is the one to target.
• Onyx Edition: This trim adds blacked-out exterior trim, black 20-inch wheels, a unique grille, and StarTex upholstery. It suits you if you want the most distinctive look and a more upscale-feeling cabin treatment.
• Limited: This trim sits above the Onyx Edition and is the better choice if you want a more premium-feeling Ascent without going all the way to Touring.
• Touring: This is the top trim for you if you want the most technology and convenience features, including the digital rearview mirror and 180-degree-view front camera.

Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert starts at Premium trim, so that’s the key safety-package step up to watch for.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Subaru Ascent?

This is a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,512 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.63% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $25,445, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Subaru Ascent's resale value?

The current average of $25,445 sits slightly below last year's $28,792.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit upside if you plan to sell soon. If you’re thinking about future resale, the current softness means your best protection is buying well and choosing a trim with broad appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Subaru Ascent safe?

The Ascent gets a "Top Safety Pick+" award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the highest possible rating in all of the organization’s assessments. It earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA evaluations except rollover resistance, where it earns a four-star rating.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is standard and includes numerous collision-avoidance and driving aids, including adaptive cruise control with lane-centering technology. Standard safety equipment also includes steering responsive LED headlights with automatic high-beam assist.

There are a couple of caveats to keep in mind: the camera-based system can struggle in low, direct sunlight, and the adaptive cruise control and lane-centering tech can feel less refined than you might expect. If you’re sensitive to driver-assistance behavior, that’s worth testing on your own route.

Should I buy a 2022 Subaru Ascent or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.63% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• This year adds the Onyx Edition, which brings blacked-out exterior trim and water-resistant upholstery.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $21,832, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $25,445 average.
• It offers a spacious cabin and a long list of standard features.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year update and the added Onyx Edition, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play, especially if you can find one in strong condition with the features you want.
