Is the 2022 Nissan Rogue reliable?

The 2022 Rogue’s new 1.5-liter VC-Turbo engine and updated CVT are described as a more modern mechanical setup, and the variable-compression design is intended to balance power and efficiency transparently. The expert evaluation also points to smooth, controlled ride quality and exemplary fit and finish, which are encouraging signs for everyday durability and ownership satisfaction.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is making sure the vehicle has been maintained properly, especially because you’re shopping a newer powertrain design.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Rogue?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage doesn’t replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the powertrain, electronics, and interior condition, and make sure the vehicle’s features work as advertised.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Rogue comes in four trim levels, and the base S is the most stripped-down version. Upper trims add more upscale cabin materials, a larger digital instrument panel, and features like LED foglamps on the SL and Platinum.
• Powertrain: You get a 1.5-liter VC-Turbo inline three-cylinder engine with 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque, paired with a new CVT. The setup is tuned for stronger response and better efficiency than the previous engine.
• Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard, and it includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking. ProPilot Assist is available, with an enhanced version that adds navigation-linked speed control.
• Infotainment: The Rogue has a 9-inch center touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless Apple CarPlay on upper trims. Upper trims also add a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.8-inch head-up display.
• Fuel efficiency: The Rogue is rated at 30 mpg city, 37 mpg highway, and 33 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?

The 2022 Nissan Rogue is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SL, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the Rogue’s new engine, standard safety suite, and strong fuel economy at the lowest price. It’s the value play if you’re focused on basics rather than luxury features.
• SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful comfort and convenience without pushing you into the highest price tiers. It’s the trim to target if you want a balanced daily driver.
• SL: This is the sweet spot in the lineup. It’s the trim the expert guidance points to if you want the safety and convenience features, plus BOSE premium audio, navigation, and ProPilot Assist with Navi-Link without paying for the most expensive extras.
• Platinum: Choose this if you want the most upscale Rogue experience, including the highest-end cabin presentation and the most advanced screen setup. It’s the right pick if you care most about premium features and tech.

Safety Shield 360 is standard across all trim levels, so you don’t need to move up the lineup just to get the core safety package.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Rogue?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 11,135 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.62% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $19,023, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Nissan Rogue's resale value?

The current average of $19,023 sits slightly below last year's $22,545.

That decline suggests the Rogue has become more affordable for used buyers, which can help demand in the near term. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level rather than just model-year age.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Nissan Rogue safe?

The 2022 Nissan Rogue received a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, and the 2021 Rogue earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Rogue comes standard with Nissan Safety Shield 360, which includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking. It also includes ten supplemental airbags, extended crumple zones, Intelligent Driver Alertness, and rear door alert.

ProPilot Assist adds steering assist and adaptive cruise control, and the available ProPilot Assist with Navi-Link adds navigation-linked predictive speed control. That said, the 2022 model’s IIHS crash-test results were not yet released in the source material, so the strongest confirmed crash-test result cited here is from the prior model year.

Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 38.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds a new 1.5-liter VC-Turbo engine and updated CVT for stronger performance and better efficiency.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,998, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $19,023 average.
• It offers a carefully executed redesign with a smooth ride and roomy interior.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $21,562, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $19,023 average.
• It adds Midnight Edition styling and Alexa compatibility on higher trims.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, modern powertrain, and strong market availability, the 2022 is the primary pick. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is worth a look for lower upfront cost, while the 2023 makes sense if you want the newer feature updates and don’t mind paying more.
