CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Nissan Rogue
overall

Summary
With 724 currently listed for sale near Pittsburgh, PA and an average price of $20,689, 40.3% of 2022 Nissan Rogues for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Nissan Rogue 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
86.5% of 2022 Rogue models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
After a complete makeover for the 2021 model year, the 2022 Nissan Rogue stands out for its new powertrain. It uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline three-cylinder gasoline engine with variable compression and a new continuously variable transmission, replacing the former 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline four-cylinder engine and CVT the Rogue had used for years. That change gives the Rogue a more modern mechanical setup and helps it claim 33 mpg combined, which the source describes as class-leading among non-hybrid compact crossover SUVs.
The 2022 Nissan Rogue is also notable for being a two-row compact crossover SUV with frameless, unibody construction on a platform that was all-new for 2021. It comes with front-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive and is offered in four trim levels. Pricing starts at $26,700 for front-wheel-drive models and rises to $36,480 before options, while all-wheel drive adds $1,500 on any trim level. Those details make it a practical choice for buyers who want a mainstream SUV with updated hardware, available traction, and a relatively efficient footprint, though the source frames its appeal mainly around the new engine, transmission, and fuel economy.

Absolutely love my 2022 Rogue SL AWD. The exterior looks really sharp, and the interior is outstanding as far as looks and functionality go. The seats are incredibly comfortable, and I’m most appreciative of the adjustable lumbar support. The turbo engine has plenty of pep, and gas mileage is excellent (I’ve been averaging mid-30s, all city). My last car was a Jeep Compass, and the Rogue is far superior in comfort, ride, acceleration, and maneuverability. I researched 2022 SUVs and the Rogue was ranked high in most reviews, and I haven’t been disappointed.

Is the 2022 Nissan Rogue a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Nissan Rogue earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.
As a two-row compact crossover SUV, it pairs a new 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine with a new transmission, and the result is a more modern mechanical setup than the previous version. The overview also points to available all-wheel drive and class-leading combined fuel economy among non-hybrid compact crossover SUVs, which makes it especially relevant if you want efficiency without moving into a hybrid.
35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Nissan Rogue reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 Rogue’s new powertrain and updated chassis give it a more contemporary feel, and the expert test-drive notes describe the ride as smooth and controlled with minimal body roll. The new engine’s variable-compression design is meant to balance power and efficiency, and the transmission’s wider gear-ratio spread helps it respond more readily in passing situations.
The first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the vehicle has been maintained properly and hasn’t been abused, since a newer turbocharged setup is worth checking carefully in service records and during a pre-purchase inspection.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Rogue?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any specific listing and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with incomplete service records. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior damage, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the trim level you expect.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The S is the entry point, while the SV, SL, and Platinum add more equipment as you move up. The base trim gets the core Rogue experience, but the upper trims bring more upscale cabin materials, larger displays, and more convenience features.
- Powertrain: The Rogue uses a 1.5-liter VC-Turbo inline three-cylinder engine with 201 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque, paired with a new CVT. It’s tuned for stronger response than the previous setup and returns 30 mpg city/37 mpg highway/33 mpg combined.
- Safety package: Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard across all trim levels and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking. ProPilot Assist is available, and ProPilot Assist with Navi-Link adds navigation-linked speed control.
- Infotainment: The Rogue gets a 9-inch center touchscreen, and upper trims add a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.8-inch head-up display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and wireless Apple CarPlay is available on upper trim levels.
- Fuel efficiency: The Rogue is rated at 30 mpg city, 37 mpg highway, and 33 mpg combined.
Which 2022 Nissan Rogue trim should I buy?
The 2022 Nissan Rogue is offered in 4 trim levels: S, SV, SL, and Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the least expensive way into the Rogue, and it gives you the standard safety suite plus the core efficiency and powertrain upgrades. It makes sense if you want the Rogue’s fundamentals at the lowest price.
- SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it moves you up the lineup without jumping all the way to the luxury-leaning upper trims. It’s the sensible middle ground if you want more equipment without overspending.
- SL: This is the sweet spot in the lineup. It can be paired with the Premium Package for BOSE premium audio, the 9-inch infotainment display with navigation, and ProPilot Assist with Navi-Link.
- Platinum: This is the most upscale Rogue, with the richest feature set and the most premium cabin presentation. Choose it if you want the most comfort and tech the model offers.
Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard on every trim, so you don’t have to move up the lineup to get the core safety package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Rogue?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 9,644 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.92% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 86.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $19,741, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Nissan Rogue's resale value?
The current average of $19,741 sits slightly below last year's $23,478.
That price movement suggests the Rogue has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right number. If you purchase near the current market average or below it, you may have less downside than a buyer who paid closer to last year’s higher pricing. Strong demand in a popular compact crossover segment can also help support future trade-in interest.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Nissan Rogue safe?
The 2022 Nissan Rogue earns a four-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, and the 2021 Rogue earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Nissan Safety Shield 360 is standard across all trim levels and includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, high beam assist, and rear automatic braking. ProPilot Assist adds steering assist and adaptive cruise control, while ProPilot Assist with Navi-Link layers in navigation-linked speed control. The Rogue also includes ten supplemental airbags, extended crumple zones, Intelligent Driver Alertness, and rear door alert.
Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Rogue or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.92% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The new VC-Turbo engine and updated transmission make this year feel more modern and efficient.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $18,813, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $19,741 average.
- It’s a carefully executed redesign with a polished cabin and strong ride quality.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $22,350, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $19,741 average.
- It adds Midnight Edition styling on the SV and Amazon Alexa compatibility on the Platinum.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of updated hardware, strong fuel economy, and broad inventory, the 2022 is the primary year to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can still make sense as a lower-cost alternative, while the 2023 is worth considering only if its added features are important enough to justify the higher price.
