overall

Summary
With 230 currently listed for sale near Memphis, TN and an average price of $17,920, 70.0% of 2022 Nissan Altimas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Nissan Altima 4.83 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2022 Nissan Altima stands out by leaning on design and technology in a crowded midsize sedan segment. It offers buyers a wide range of choices with two engines, front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, and five trim levels, which gives it broad appeal for shoppers who want flexibility in a mainstream sedan. Nissan also tweaked the packaging for 2022, expanding the availability of the sporty Midnight Edition option package to include the SR trim with the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine.
That mix of variety and style is part of the Altima’s appeal, along with standard advanced safety features. At the same time, the car has some clear limitations: the base engine is described as underwhelming, all-wheel drive is not available with the VC-Turbo engine, and there is no hybrid option. Even so, the 2022 Altima remains a practical choice for buyers who value a roomy, well-equipped sedan with multiple powertrain paths.

Love this car!! Its fast, has great gas mileage, lots of room for passengers. Mine has some cool things in it. I love the all around camera it gives it such a high tech feel. I also like the remote start. This is a great car if youre looking for sporty luxury feel without the expensive price tag.

The 2022 Altima has most all the latest features that make todays cars safer such as blind spot warning and keeping the car in the chosen lane, plus all the latest technology in the touch screen infotainment. It also seems quieter than my 2015 Altima.

Is the 2022 Nissan Altima a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Nissan Altima earns a 4.83/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its impressive performance, fuel economy, and spacious interior, and they also like the updated technology plus features such as remote start and heated seats. On the other hand, some reviewers want more luxury touches, including a power driver's seat and additional radio options.
For everyday use, the Altima makes sense if you want a roomy, well-equipped midsize sedan with multiple powertrain choices and available all-wheel drive. The market also shows 32.9% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Nissan Altima reliable?
Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Reviewers describe it as impressive, and the feedback points to a car people feel good about living with over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Altima is one well-put-together car, with a smooth, composed ride and a quiet cabin that support confidence in daily use.
The Altima also benefits from a practical ownership profile, with standard equipment and mainstream mechanicals that should keep long-term upkeep straightforward. For used buyers, the main risk is choosing a neglected example, so condition and service history matter more than the badge itself.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Nissan Altima?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage car or one with optional equipment. Focus on overall condition, since trim and package content can change the feel of the car quite a bit.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The five trim levels are S, SV, SR, SL, and Platinum. Lower trims don't look and feel as nice, and the base trim misses some of the richer material quality and equipment you get as you move up.
- Powertrain: You get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 188 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque, or a 2.0-liter VC-Turbo with 248 hp and 273 lb-ft. The base engine can be paired with FWD or AWD on most trims, while the VC-Turbo is limited to the SR with FWD.
- Safety package: Standard driver aids include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, automatic high-beam headlights, driver-attention warning, Rear View Monitor, rear door alert, and hill-start assist. Starting with the SV trim, Safety Shield 360 adds rear automatic braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and a rear sonar system. The base S can add a Driver Assist package with those same added features.
- Infotainment: The S gets a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, voice recognition, Siri Eyes Free, hands-free text messaging, AM/FM radio with six speakers, and a single USB port. Other trims get an 8-inch touchscreen, wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, and two USB ports. Starting with SL, you also get a nine-speaker Bose system, navigation, connected services, and remote engine start with intelligent climate control.
- Fuel efficiency: Combined fuel economy ranges from 32 mpg for the 2.5-liter engine with FWD to 29 mpg for the VC-Turbo with FWD.
Which 2022 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?
The 2022 Nissan Altima is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SV, SR, SL, and Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the entry point, but it still brings the core safety tech and basic infotainment. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Altima, though you give up the richer cabin feel and larger screen found higher up.
- SV: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds Safety Shield 360 and the more advanced infotainment setup while staying below the pricier luxury-oriented trims.
- SR: This is the sportier choice, and it is also the trim tied to the VC-Turbo engine and the Midnight Edition package. If you want the most style and the strongest available performance character, this is the one to look at.
- SL: This is where the Altima starts to feel more upscale, with the Bose audio system, navigation, connected services, and remote engine start with intelligent climate control.
- Platinum: This is the top trim, and it is the one to choose if you want the most complete equipment list and standard AWD.
Starting with the SV trim, every Altima has Safety Shield 360, while the base S can add those features through the optional Driver Assist package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Nissan Altima?
The market looks moderately favorable if you are a selective buyer.
- Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,211 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.89% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 78.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $17,725, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Nissan Altima's resale value?
The current average of $17,725 sits slightly below last year's $19,890.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and hold the car for a while. For a future seller, the current market is a reminder that value retention may be steadier than strong, especially compared with more in-demand rivals.
Still, the Altima's broad appeal, strong safety reputation, and high owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to sell. Well-equipped examples in good condition should be easier to move than stripped or heavily worn ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Nissan Altima safe?
The 2022 Nissan Altima earns five-star ratings from NHTSA for overall crash protection, front crash protection, side crash protection, and rollover resistance. It also earns the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ designation.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, automatic high-beam headlights, driver-attention warning, Rear View Monitor, rear door alert, and hill-start assist. Starting with the SV trim, Safety Shield 360 adds rear automatic braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, and a rear sonar system. The base S trim can add a Driver Assist package with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear automatic braking, and a rear sonar system.
The Altima also earns Good ratings in all six IIHS crash tests, though its headlights are rated Acceptable and its vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention is also rated Acceptable. That means the car is very strong overall, but you should still pay attention to lighting and visibility-related equipment when comparing trims.
Should I buy a 2022 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.89% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds broader trim and package flexibility, including expanded Midnight Edition availability on the SR.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $16,337, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $17,725 average.
- It offers broad appeal with available all-wheel drive and wireless smartphone connectivity.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $20,959, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $17,725 average.
- It emphasizes comfort, easy-to-use tech, and strong safety ratings.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and trim variety, the 2022 is the smart default. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 can save you money while still delivering many of the same core strengths. If you want to spend more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2023 is worth a look, but you should expect to pay a premium.
