Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class a good car?

Generally — the 4/5 user rating points to a solid ownership impression for this model year. The 2022 SL-Class is positioned as a luxury grand tourer with an electrically folding fabric roof, two rear seats, and Mercedes-Benz’s latest MBUX infotainment system, so it fits best if you want open-air style with modern tech and everyday usability. Its appeal is strongest if you value a polished blend of comfort, performance, and high-end presentation over maximum practicality. 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 SL-Class is described as a polished luxury convertible with everyday livability and hushed comfort, which supports confidence in how it may hold up as a used purchase. Its broad drive-mode selection and high-end cabin setup also suggest a car built to deliver a refined ownership experience rather than a stripped-down performance focus. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is accepting a complex luxury roadster with limited practicality and the potential for higher upkeep expectations.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report to confirm the car’s background and verify that the listing matches the seller’s description. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on the roof mechanism, cabin electronics, and overall condition, since this is a technology-heavy luxury convertible. Focus on signs of wear that matter most in a grand-touring car: interior condition, roof operation, and evidence of careful maintenance.

What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class's resale value?

The current average of $95,522 sits slightly below last year's $100,647.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently today but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. If you keep the car in strong condition and buy at the right price, you improve your chances of preserving value. The model’s luxury positioning and broad appeal can help support demand, especially among shoppers looking for a premium convertible with strong presence.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 93.2% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.09% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $96,148, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $95,522 average.
• It has a more striking personality with a gorgeous, brilliant design and a more statement-making feel.

The 2022 is the better starting point if you want the stronger value case and a healthier mix of deal opportunities. If you care more about style and are willing to pay a bit more for a newer model-year feel, the 2023 is the alternative to compare. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2022 is the smarter path; for shoppers prioritizing presence over savings, the 2023 deserves a look.
