Is the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar a good car?

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar earns an 6.8/10 from our experts, and its appeal is rooted in style, premium materials, and a comfortable ride.

The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The Velar is aimed at you if you want a distinctly Range Rover sense of theater in a compact-to-mid-size luxury SUV, with a cabin that feels upscale and a design that stands out. The trade-offs are clear: poor visibility and an underwhelming base engine, plus advanced safety features that are not standard.

With 37.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar reliable?

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is presented as a style-first luxury SUV, but the overview also makes clear that reliability is not what draws many buyers to the brand.

Its expert evaluation points to a comfortable ride and premium interior materials, while the performance notes say the standard turbo-four provides average response and that the Velar’s street-focused mission limits off-road capability. The tech evaluation is more reassuring, describing the infotainment system as logical and easy to use rather than buggy.

For ownership, the main long-term risk for used buyers is that you’re buying into a luxury SUV whose appeal is more about design and feel than low-stress practicality.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper paper trail. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on electronics, cabin condition, and any signs of neglected maintenance. Since this SUV is sold on style and refinement, condition matters a lot more than it might on a more utilitarian vehicle.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim already brings high-quality materials, sharp screens, and a polished cabin, but the cheaper Velar still reminds you what you’re driving. Upper trims add extra leather, softer headliners, and richer two-tone colors and textures, so you should pay close attention to whether the interior matches the trim level you’re considering.
• Powertrain: The base 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four makes 247 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, and it’s paired with an eight-speed automatic and standard 4WD. The six-cylinder mild-hybrid options are the stronger choice if you want more power and better overall satisfaction.
• Safety package: Standard driver aids include forward emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, traffic sign recognition, and a driver attention monitor. The 360-degree cameras and adaptive cruise control with steering assist are optional, so check whether a used example has them.
• Infotainment: Pivi Pro uses a simplified layout, and the cabin includes a reconfigurable instrument panel, a voice assistant, a 360-degree camera system, and a 12-speaker Meridian stereo. The system is designed to be easier to use than older Land Rover setups, so make sure the screen and controls work properly on the specific vehicle you’re considering.
• Fuel efficiency: The base six-cylinder powertrain gets 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. The electric-supercharger/turbo combination gets 19 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined. Four-cylinder models get 20 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar trim should I buy?

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar is offered in 1 trim level: Velar S.

Here's the short version:

The Velar S is the trim to focus on if you want the core Velar experience without chasing higher-priced extras. It already delivers the design, cabin quality, and comfort that define the model, while the available options can add useful upgrades like the 360-degree cameras, head-up display, heated steering wheel and windshield, upgraded Meridian stereo, and automatic parking.

The safety package is standard across the model, but the 360-degree cameras and adaptive cruise control with steering assist remain optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 427 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.86% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,857, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar's resale value?

The current average of $30,857 sits slightly below last year's $36,671.

That drop suggests the Velar has become more approachable on the used market, which can help you buy at a better entry point. For a future seller, though, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment.

Because the model is style-driven and not the most practical choice in its class, well-kept examples with desirable options should hold up better than plain or neglected ones. If you buy carefully now, you’ll be in a stronger position later when it’s time to sell.

Is the 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar safe?

The 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar does not have U.S. crash-test ratings listed here, but it scored well in European NCAP testing when it launched.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard driving assists include forward emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, traffic sign recognition, and a driver attention monitor. The 360-degree cameras and adaptive cruise control with steering assist are optional, so you should check whether a used example has the features you want.

Should I buy a 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 15.86% compared with last year.
• The 2022 Velar stands out for style, premium interior materials, and a comfortable ride, while still offering a simplified infotainment system and a more polished overall feel than its reputation might suggest.

The bottom line: If you want the Velar’s strongest mix of style, comfort, and current market value, the 2022 is the one to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, shop the listings closely and prioritize condition and equipment over chasing the lowest sticker price.
