Overview

Infiniti has been hard at work trying to break out of its “also-ran” position on the premium side of the market. Its latest SUV, the QX60, features an interior and a standard features list prepared to get the job done, but the rest of Infiniti’s lineup has yet to catch up. That’s certainly true of the 2022 Q60, a gorgeous sporty coupe with a standard twin-turbo V6, which looks the part but is outgunned by more serious competition from Europe.
In its base form, the Q60 gets a twin-turbocharged V6 engine that spins out 300 or 400 horsepower, depending on the trim. A seven-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard, but Infiniti also offers an all-wheel drive option for the Q60. While neither engine is underpowered, the Red Sport’s 400-horsepower mill delivers better acceleration and torque in most situations. The Q60’s transmission offers a manual shift mode, but blips of the shift paddle don’t elicit an immediate response.
On the road, the Q60 manages a smooth ride and confident handling. Adaptive dampers are standard and quickly adjust the car’s response to changing road conditions. Infiniti offers an upgraded steering system called Direct Adaptive Steering, which it says “removes the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and tires, allowing for instantaneous driver input that can be digitally processed and adjusted up to 1,000 times per second.” The system interacts with the car’s drive modes to deliver varying steering feel depending on the situation.
The Q60’s cabin carries high-end materials and a gorgeous design, but it’s short on space compared to its rivals. The high door sills and low seating position may also limit outward visibility for shorter passengers. The car comes standard with leatherette upholstery, but two leather upgrades are available, including standard leather and quilted semi-aniline leather. Brushed aluminum or carbon fiber accents come standard, depending on the trim.
Infiniti’s confusing dual-screen infotainment system is on board here, with eight-inch upper and seven-inch lower touchscreens. The lower screen controls climate settings and other functions, while the top display handles audio and infotainment controls. Wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto are standard, and navigation is available in higher trim levels. Other standard tech features include Bluetooth, SiriusXM radio, USB and USB-C inputs, and six speakers. Higher trims get a Bose 13-speaker audio system, Centerpoint surround-sound, remote engine start, voice recognition, and a surround-view camera.
Neither the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have crashed the 2022 Q60. A predictive forward collision warning system is standard, but all others are held back in higher trims. Available tech includes backup collision intervention, blind spot warning, blind spot intervention, forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, and active lane control.
The 2022 Infiniti Q60 is on sale now with a starting price of $42,775. The top Red Sport 400 model starts at $59,225.
