How much does the 2022 Hyundai Kona cost?

There are 1,919 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Kona earns a 4.92/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.

Owners consistently praise its fun driving experience, safety features, impressive tech, sleek design, and smooth handling. The Kona also stands out for its multiple powertrain options and strong value for money.

The main trade-offs are a cramped back seat and limited cargo space, and the expert review notes that some features you might expect at this price point are not standard. For you, that means the Kona makes the most sense if you want a small SUV with personality, efficiency, and a more engaging drive than many rivals.

Good and great deals account for 36.1% of listings, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona reliable?

Owners rate it 4.92/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, trouble-free, and easy to live with over time. The expert review also emphasizes Hyundai’s complimentary maintenance and strong warranty coverage, which helps reduce early ownership friction.

That said, as with any used subcompact SUV, your long-term risk depends heavily on maintenance history, mileage, and how the vehicle was used before you buy it.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Kona?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional equipment. Focus on interior condition, rear-seat wear, cargo-area use, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re shopping.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SE is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add more convenience and tech. The N Line and Kona N bring the sportiest styling and cabin details, but the lower trims are where you’ll notice the biggest feature gaps.
• Powertrain: The SE and SEL use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with a CVT, while the N Line and Limited step up to a turbocharged 1.6-liter with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. The Kona N uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter with an N eight-speed wet DCT and performance-focused hardware.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, lane-following assistance, driver attention warning, and rear occupant alert. Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, blind-spot warning with collision avoidance, Highway Drive Assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance, and Safe Exit Warning.
• Infotainment: The base model gets an 8-inch display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Higher trims add a 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, and, on select versions, a premium audio system and wireless charging.
• Fuel efficiency: FWD Konas except the Kona N are rated at 32 mpg combined, AWD versions return 29-30 mpg combined depending on engine, and the Kona N is rated at 23 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Hyundai Kona trim should I buy?

The 2022 Hyundai Kona is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, N Line, Limited, Kona N.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the refreshed Kona’s core value proposition with the standard 8-inch screen, wireless smartphone integration, and the basic safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it’s also the trim where you’ll feel the most feature limitations.
• SEL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful convenience and connectivity upgrades without jumping too far up the price ladder. If you want a more comfortable daily driver and still care about value, this is the one to focus on.
• N Line: This is the sweet spot if you want the strongest mix of performance, style, and equipment. It adds the turbocharged engine, sportier design details, and more upscale tech, and the expert review calls it nearly unbeatable bang for the buck.
• Limited: This trim is the better choice if you want the more premium tech experience, including the larger touchscreen and richer audio setup. It suits you best if comfort and convenience matter more than sporty character.
• Kona N: This is the performance model, with the most powerful engine, track-minded hardware, and exclusive driving features. Choose it if you want the most engaging Kona and are willing to trade some everyday practicality for speed and capability.

The safety package is limited on the base trim, so if advanced driver-assistance features matter to you, shop above SE or verify the exact equipment on the listing.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Kona?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find decent value.

• Deal availability: 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,919 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.62% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,633, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Hyundai Kona's resale value?

The current average of $17,675 sits slightly below last year's $19,132.

That decline suggests the Kona has already moved through a meaningful portion of its depreciation curve, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you shop carefully now, you may reduce the amount of value left to lose over your ownership period.

The model’s strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand in the used market. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.92/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Hyundai Kona safe?

The 2022 Hyundai Kona earns five-star ratings for overall crash protection from NHTSA, with five-star ratings for front and side crash protection and four-star rollover resistance. It also earns the IIHS top Good rating in all six crashworthiness tests, though it falls short of Top Safety Pick status because of its Marginal child-seat anchor rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, lane-following assistance, driver attention warning, and rear occupant alert. Available upgrades include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, blind-spot warning with collision avoidance, Highway Drive Assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance, and Safe Exit Warning.

The main caveat is the child-seat anchor performance, which is the weak spot you should keep in mind if you regularly install car seats.

Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Kona or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.92/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 refresh adds updated styling, stronger powertrain choices, and more standard tech and safety.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $15,489, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $17,675 average.
• It offers playful handling and a value-forward personality.

The bottom line: If you want the better-rounded Kona, the 2022 is the stronger pick because it brings the refresh, improved equipment, and a more compelling mix of value and capability. If your priority is simply spending less, the 2021 can still make sense, especially if you find one in clean condition and don’t mind giving up some of the 2022’s upgrades.
