FAQs
The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq Plug-In Hybrid offers all the practicality of the Ioniq Hybrid, but with the added benefit of electric charging that provides up to 29 miles of EV driving. The Ioniq Hybrid was introduced in 2017, and the Plug-In version arrived one year later. In 2020, the Ioniq received styling updates, as well as a boost in range for the Plug-In. It remains largely unchanged for 2022.
The Hyundai Ioniq Plug-In comes equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine, working with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, an electric motor, and a 9.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The system makes a combined 139 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. These figures are identical to those of the non-plug-in Ioniq Hybrid, with the advantage coming from the Plug-In’s fuel economy.
As mentioned, the Ioniq Plug-In has an electric-power range of 29 miles. The battery pack can be recharged in about 6.5 hours using a wall-style outlet or 2.25 hours using a 240-volt Level-2 charger. The Plug-In returns 119 MPGe (miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent) while running on purely electric power. On conventional power, the Ioniq Plug-In returns 52 combined mpg.
The Ioniq Plug-In is offered in three trims: SE, SEL, and Limited. The SE comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control, a 6-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The SEL trim adds a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 7-inch color driver’s display, wireless device charging, and LED headlights. The range-topping Limited provides a 10.25-inch touchscreen, leather upholstery, a power sunroof, and ambient cabin lighting.
The Ioniq Plug-In comes with a host of standard driver assistance features, including automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, driver attention alert, and automatic high beams.
Base MSRP for the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq Plug-In Hybrid SE trim is $28,600. The SEL starts at $29,800, and the range-topping Limited starts at $33,250. The Ioniq Plug-In is backed by a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
