Overview

The Honda Insight is a compact hybrid sedan, competing against the Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid, Kia Niro Hybrid, and the Toyota Corolla Hybrid and Prius. For 2022, it gets a downsized lineup.
The Insight gets its power courtesy of a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a dual-motor hybrid system, with a combined 151 horsepower. Fuel economy measures as high as 55 mpg city, 49 mpg highway, and 52 mpg combined, but some models are rated at 51 mpg city, 45 mpg highway and 48 mpg combined.
This eliminates the Insight’s base LX trim, leaving just the EX and Touring versions, which carry over unchanged. The EX comes with LED exterior lights, keyless access, and start, an 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, a 180-watt audio system with eight speakers, automatic climate control, WiFi hotspot capability, and remote start. The Touring adds exterior chrome appointments, a sunroof, leather upholstery, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and LED fog lights.
Every Insight comes with the Honda Sensing suite of safety features, which comprises a rearview camera, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, road-departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and traffic-sign recognition. Also standard are blind-spot monitoring and automatic high-beams. The only optional feature is rain-sensing wipers, which come with the Touring trim. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the Insight good crash-safety marks, while the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) a Top Safety Pick+ award for 2021—the agency’s highest rating.
The Honda Insight represents a thrifty, comfortable and functional way to travel.

Only down side is you have to purchase the touring trim for heated seats. I currently drive a 2019 insight with 112000 mi and still averaging 50 mpg in 40 to 50 degree temperatures. Only replaced frt and rear brakes at 90k for peace of mind ,it was not necessary. My driving mix is 70 highway 30 city.

I bought the car for its amazing mpgs, but Im thoroughly impressed with the cars build quality and quiet cabin. The only con is that the engine does get a little noisy at harder acceleration, but with the ten speaker stereo system I never hear it.

Great safety features and seems like a bit more pep than a Prius. I am 6-1 and was comfortable in it. Gas mileage is great and overall pleased with it

How much does the 2022 Honda Insight cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,671 |
| Year-Round Low | $19,847 |
| Year-Round High | $21,388 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $21,379 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.31% |
Prices have softened 3.31% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 137 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2022 Honda Insight a good car?
Yes — owners give it 4.6/5, which points to strong overall satisfaction. Reviewers frequently praise its safety features, impressive gas mileage, comfortable seating for taller drivers, build quality, and quiet cabin. If you want a used hybrid with broad owner approval and a healthy share of good or great deals, this model year looks appealing, especially with 32.1% of listings falling into that pricing category.
Is the 2022 Honda Insight reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary also points to a dependable ownership experience, with owners describing it as comfortable, quiet, and well built over time. For used buyers, that suggests lower day-to-day ownership risk if you choose a well-kept example and confirm its maintenance and history.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Insight?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, even if the listing looks clean on paper. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the car has the features you want, since some buyers note that higher trims are needed for extras like heated seats. If possible, compare several listings so you can judge whether the asking price matches the car’s condition and equipment.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Insight?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing.
- Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 137 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.31% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 81.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $19,847, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Honda Insight's resale value?
The current average of $20,671 sits slightly below last year's $21,379.
That softer pricing can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays soft. Even so, a model with strong owner satisfaction can still hold buyer interest better than one with weaker reviews. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2022 Honda Insight or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.31% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want a used Insight with strong owner satisfaction, good fuel-economy appeal, and a decent number of value-priced listings, the 2022 is a sensible primary choice. If your top priority is stretching your budget, you should also compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-priced example rather than the newest badge alone.
