How much does the 2022 GMC Terrain cost?

Prices have softened 7.70% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,082 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 GMC Terrain a good car?

Yes — with a 4.83/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating, the 2022 GMC Terrain lands as a generally well-liked compact SUV with clear strengths and some notable compromises. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Drivers repeatedly praise its comfort, smooth ride, and easy-to-live-with nature, and they also like the wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto setup. The user feedback also points to strong snowy-weather confidence with all-wheel drive and a generally safety-minded ownership experience.

On the downside, the expert review calls out sluggish performance and poor value for money, while also noting that the interior materials feel cheap. In practical terms, this is a good fit if you want a comfortable daily driver with useful tech and winter-friendly manners, but it is less compelling if you care most about quick acceleration or upscale cabin feel.

34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2022 GMC Terrain reliable?

Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback also leans toward dependable everyday use, with repeated praise for comfort, snowy-weather confidence, and a trouble-free-feeling ownership experience. The expert review reinforces that sense of consistency by describing the Terrain as easy to live with and noting that its driver-assistance systems work effectively and subtly in testing.

The Terrain also benefits from a standard safety package that includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a following distance indicator. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is more about living with its modest performance and lower-value feel than about any obvious durability red flag.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Terrain?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper vehicle-by-vehicle review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the transmission controls, cabin condition, and any signs that the SUV has been used harder than its comfort-oriented image suggests. If you are considering an AT4, pay extra attention to underbody and front-end condition because the model’s rugged styling can overstate its real-world capability.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SLE and SLT are more affordable and come with standard front-wheel drive, while the AT4 adds a bolder grille, black 17-inch alloy wheels, sport-terrain tires, standard all-wheel drive, and a steel front skid plate. The Denali adds a layer of luxury, and the AT4 is the trim that most clearly changes the Terrain’s look and image.
• Powertrain: Every 2022 Terrain uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic. The engine is tuned more for everyday torque than quick launches, and the AT4 can switch between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Every Terrain gets the GMC Pro Safety Package with forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a following distance indicator. The GMC Pro Safety Plus Package adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, rear parking sensors, and a Safety Alert Seat; it is standard on Denali and optional on SLE, SLT, and AT4.
• Infotainment: SLE trim gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while SLT, AT4, and Denali get an 8-inch high-definition touchscreen. Both systems include Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, and OnStar-connected services with a Wi-Fi hotspot; navigation and a Bose premium sound system are available with the larger screen.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert review says the official EPA rating is 26 mpg, and the test vehicle returned 26.2 mpg on the evaluation loop.

Which 2022 GMC Terrain trim should I buy?

The 2022 GMC Terrain is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• SLE: This is the value-oriented starting point, and it gives you the standard 7-inch touchscreen plus the Terrain’s core comfort and safety equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and do not need the larger screen or extra appearance upgrades.
• SLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the larger 8-inch touchscreen and keeps the Terrain’s everyday usability intact. If you want a more polished feel without jumping all the way to the luxury trim, this is the one to focus on.
• AT4: This is the trim to choose if you want the Terrain’s most distinctive look, with standard all-wheel drive, sport-terrain tires, and the skid plate giving it a tougher image. Just keep in mind that the expert review says the off-road look overstates what it can actually do.
• Denali: This is the luxury-leaning choice, and it comes standard with the GMC Pro Safety Plus Package. Pick it if you want the most upscale version of the Terrain and are willing to pay for it.

The standard safety package is on every trim, while the upgraded safety package is standard on Denali and optional on SLE, SLT, and AT4.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Terrain?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without rushing every listing.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,082 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.70% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 83.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,692, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 GMC Terrain's resale value?

The current average of $21,692 sits slightly below last year's $23,501.

That price movement suggests the Terrain has already absorbed some of its near-term market softness, which can help future sellers if demand stabilizes. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less downside risk than someone who paid closer to the higher end of the range. The key for resale will be keeping the vehicle clean, well-documented, and equipped with the features shoppers actually want.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 GMC Terrain safe?

The 2022 Terrain earns mostly “Good” crash-test scores from IIHS, but it also receives a “Marginal” rating in the new side-impact test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Every 2022 Terrain comes standard with the GMC Pro Safety Package, which includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a following distance indicator. The available GMC Pro Safety Plus Package adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, rear parking sensors, and a Safety Alert Seat; it is standard on Denali and optional on SLE, SLT, and AT4.

The main caveat is that lane-centering is not available, and the IIHS side-impact result is weaker than the rest of the Terrain’s crash-test performance.

Should I buy a 2022 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.70% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 stands out for its new AT4 trim, which adds standard all-wheel drive, sport-terrain tires, and a steel front skid plate.

The bottom line: If you want the Terrain’s updated styling, strong comfort, and useful tech, the 2022 is the year to target. If you are especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for a well-priced listing and focus on trims that give you the features you actually want without paying extra for the AT4’s image-first upgrades.
