How much does the 2022 GMC Terrain cost?

Prices have softened 9.15% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,106 listings available, which suggests you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 GMC Terrain a good car?

Yes — the 2022 GMC Terrain earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 6.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise the comfort and smooth driving experience, and they also highlight the safety features and confident behavior in snowy conditions. The user feedback also points to a practical, easygoing character that fits everyday commuting well.

On the other hand, the expert review calls out sluggish performance and interior materials that feel cheap, along with poor value for money. That makes the Terrain a better fit if you want a comfortable, simple-to-live-with compact SUV rather than one that feels especially quick or upscale.

The overview also frames it as a model that leans into comfort and easy-to-use tech, especially if you value wireless smartphone integration and a straightforward cabin. Good and great deals account for 32.7% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 GMC Terrain reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to comfort, smooth driving, and confidence in snowy conditions, while also suggesting that many owners feel good about the Terrain’s day-to-day dependability. The expert testing also describes the powertrain as settled and effective once you’re moving, with the transmission doing a decent job of keeping the engine in its torque band.

The review also notes that the Terrain’s fuel economy is respectable for the class, which can help reduce ownership stress over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the Terrain’s value and refinement may not feel as strong as its price suggests, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 GMC Terrain?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with optional equipment. Focus on cabin condition, how the transmission controls feel in daily use, and whether the tech and safety features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SLE and SLT trim levels are more affordable and come with standard front-wheel drive to save money, while the AT4 adds a bolder grille, black 17-inch alloy wheels, sport-terrain tires, and a steel skid plate. The Denali adds a layer of luxury, but the cabin still reflects the brand’s entry-level positioning in material quality and execution.
• Powertrain: Every 2022 Terrain uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The engine is adequate, but it needs to be worked into its torque band, and the previously available turbo 2.0-liter is gone.
• Safety package: Every model includes GMC Pro Safety Package with forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a following distance indicator. GMC Pro Safety Plus Package adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, rear parking sensors, and a Safety Alert Seat; it is standard on Denali.
• Infotainment: SLE gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while SLT, AT4, and Denali get an 8-inch touchscreen. Both systems include Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, OnStar-connected services, and a Wi-Fi hotspot; connected navigation and a Bose premium sound system are available with the larger screen.
• Fuel efficiency: The official EPA rating is 26 mpg, and the evaluation loop returned 26.2 mpg.

Which 2022 GMC Terrain trim should I buy?

The 2022 GMC Terrain is offered in 4 trim levels: SLE, SLT, AT4, Denali.

Here's the short version:

• SLE: This is the most affordable path into the Terrain, and it gives you the standard 7-inch touchscreen plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It makes the most sense if you want the Terrain’s comfort and tech without paying for extras you may not need.
• SLT: This trim steps up to the 8-inch touchscreen and adds a more upscale equipment mix while still keeping the Terrain’s easygoing character. It’s the best-value choice if you want a nicer-feeling cabin and more available features without jumping all the way to the top.
• AT4: This is the rugged-looking trim with standard all-wheel drive, sport-terrain tires, and a steel skid plate. It suits you if you want the tougher appearance and extra traction hardware, but the review makes clear that its off-road image outpaces its real capability.
• Denali: This is the luxury-leaning version, and it comes standard with the more advanced safety package. Choose it if you want the most premium equipment mix and don’t mind paying more for it.

The safety package is standard across the lineup, while the expanded driver-assistance suite is standard on Denali and available on SLE, SLT, and AT4.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 GMC Terrain?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile deals.

• Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,106 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.15% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,183, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 GMC Terrain's resale value?

The current average of $21,183 sits slightly below last year's $23,315.

That decline suggests the Terrain has softened in the used market, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you’re planning to sell soon. A lower current average price can make it easier to attract shoppers, but it also means you may need to price competitively to move your vehicle.

If you own one and keep it in strong condition, you can still support resale by emphasizing the Terrain’s comfort, tech, and safety equipment. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 GMC Terrain safe?

The 2022 GMC Terrain earns mostly “Good” crash-test scores from IIHS, though it receives a “Marginal” rating in the new side-impact test.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Every model comes standard with GMC Pro Safety Package, which includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and a following distance indicator. GMC Pro Safety Plus Package adds adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-change assist, rear parking sensors, and a Safety Alert Seat; it is standard on Denali and available on SLE, SLT, and AT4.

The main caveat is that lane-centering is not available, and the IIHS side-impact result is weaker than the rest of the crash-test performance. That makes the Terrain a solid safety choice overall, but not a standout in every test category.

Should I buy a 2022 GMC Terrain or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.15% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 model year adds the AT4 trim, which gives the Terrain a more rugged look and standard all-wheel drive.

The bottom line: If you want the Terrain with the newest trim choice and a softer used-market price, the 2022 is the one to target. If you’re mainly shopping on price, a nearby model year may still make sense, but the 2022 offers a good mix of inventory, satisfaction, and value if you find the right listing.
