Is the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

The Bolt EV fits you well if you want a practical, mainstream electric hatchback with a spacious cabin, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and strong everyday value. It also adds standard DC fast charging for 2022, which makes it easier to live with than before.

The main trade-off is inconvenient control placement, which can make some interactions less intuitive. It also isn’t trying to be a flashy EV; it’s built around usefulness and value rather than excitement.

34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Bolt EV’s appeal comes from its practical EV formula: a usable range, standard fast charging, and a straightforward cabin layout that should make daily ownership easier. Its electric drivetrain is simple compared with gas-powered alternatives, and the battery and electric drive components are backed by an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty.

The 2022 update also adds standard DC fast charging, which improves day-to-day usability and reduces the friction of longer trips. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the battery system and recall history have been properly checked before you commit.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report, confirm recall completion, and prioritize a careful inspection of the battery-related systems and charging equipment. Pay close attention to how the car has been used and charged, since EV ownership habits can affect long-term condition.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 1LT includes 17-inch aluminum wheels, heated and power-adjustable side mirrors, solar-absorbing glass, manual front seats, a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, automatic climate control, and a 10.2-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. The 2LT adds heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and seats, so it suits you if you want a more comfortable daily driver.
• Powertrain: The Bolt EV uses a single electric motor with front-wheel drive, making 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. It feels quick off the line and remains capable at highway speeds, while Sport mode sharpens throttle response.
• Safety package: Chevy Safety Assist is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. The optional Driver Confidence Package for the 1LT adds rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change alert with side blind zone alert.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.2-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, plus a more conventional Chevrolet Infotainment System 3 setup. The system also keeps hard controls for volume, tuning, and home.
• Range & charging: The Bolt EV carries a 65-kilowatt-hour battery pack and can add up to 90 miles of range in 30 minutes on DC fast charging. Level 2 charging adds about 20 miles of range per hour.
• Battery health: Check battery state-of-health, ask how often the car has been charged at home versus on DC fast chargers, and confirm how much of the battery warranty remains. For a used EV, those details matter as much as mileage.

Which 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV trim should I buy?

The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV is offered in 2 trim levels: 1LT and 2LT.

Here's the short version:

• 1LT: This is the value play if you want the Bolt EV’s core strengths at the lowest entry point. You still get the 10.2-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone integration, automatic climate control, and the practical cabin layout, so it covers the essentials well.
• 2LT: Choose this if you want a more comfortable daily driver with heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and leather seating. It’s the better fit if you spend a lot of time behind the wheel and want a more upscale feel.

The optional Driver Confidence Package on the 1LT adds rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change alert with side blind zone alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you should shop with patience and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 212 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.38% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 89.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,240, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV's resale value?

The current average of $19,442 sits slightly above last year's $18,807.

That upward move suggests the Bolt EV has held buyer interest well enough to support pricing. For a future seller, that means a clean, well-kept example should still have a decent audience, especially if it has strong equipment and a clean history.

The model’s value story is helped by its practical range, standard fast charging, and broad everyday appeal. If you buy smart and keep the car in good condition, you should have a reasonable path to resale later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV safe?

The 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevy Safety Assist is standard, and it includes automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams. The optional Driver Confidence Package for the 1LT adds rear park assist, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change alert with side blind zone alert.

One important caveat is the recall history tied to rare manufacturing defects that increased fire risk, so you should confirm that any used example has had all required work completed. The Bolt EV also does not get the more advanced Super Cruise system available on the Bolt EUV.

Should I buy a 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 89.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.38% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 adds standard DC fast charging, which makes it more usable for everyday EV driving.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $17,064, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $19,442 average.
• It emphasizes affordability and efficiency in a smaller, more minimalist EV package.

The bottom line: If you want the better-rounded Bolt EV, the 2022 is the stronger pick because it adds standard fast charging and keeps the practical range and value that make this model appealing. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the better budget path, especially if you’re comfortable giving up some of the 2022’s added convenience.
