Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Buick Encore GX earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

The trade-offs are clear: the expert review calls out poor ride quality and weak value for money, and user feedback notes that the three-cylinder engine can feel short on highway power. User feedback points to a dependable, comfortable small SUV that many owners feel good about living with day to day. The review summary also highlights advanced features and a generally positive ownership experience, which supports the idea that this is a vehicle you can count on for routine use.

The expert review describes the powertrain as surprisingly capable and the driving experience as drama-free, which reinforces its everyday dependability. Buick also includes a maintenance perk with the first scheduled maintenance visit covered.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the vehicle’s comfort and performance compromises will still suit your needs after purchase.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Buick Encore GX?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example. Focus on overall condition, feature operation, and signs of wear in the cabin and suspension, since those are the areas most likely to affect your day-to-day satisfaction.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Preferred trim uses halogen headlights, while the top Essence trim gets LED headlights and a more upscale feel.
• Powertrain: The 2022 Encore GX offers a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder with 137 horsepower and a 1.3-liter turbocharged three-cylinder with 155 hp; FWD uses a CVT, while AWD uses a nine-speed automatic.
• Safety package: The Driver Confidence package includes automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, following-distance indicator, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights.
• Infotainment: An eight-inch touchscreen is standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth audio streaming, Buick Connected Services with a built-in WiFi hotspot, front and rear USB ports, OnStar telematics, and SiriusXM satellite radio.
• Fuel efficiency: The EPA says FWD versions return 30 mpg combined, while AWD versions return 27 mpg combined.

Which 2022 Buick Encore GX trim should I buy?

The 2022 Buick Encore GX is offered in 3 trim levels: Preferred, Select, Essence.

Here's the short version:

• Preferred: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Encore GX formula with the standard 1.2-liter turbo engine, the eight-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the standard safety suite. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting point, but the halogen headlights and simpler equipment make it the least appealing choice if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while.
• Select: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more flexibility without jumping all the way to the top model. You can get the available 1.3-liter engine and navigation here, which makes it the sweet spot if you want a better-equipped Encore GX without paying for every luxury touch.
• Essence: This is the most upscale version, with the 1.3-liter engine standard, leather seats, and LED headlights. It suits you best if you want the most polished version of the Encore GX and are willing to pay more for the added comfort and lighting upgrades.

The standard safety package is a strong part of the lineup, but the headlight rating varies by trim, so that is worth checking closely.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Buick Encore GX?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,045 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.68% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 85.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,935, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Buick Encore GX's resale value?

The current average of $18,947 sits slightly below last year's $20,303.

That decline suggests the Encore GX has already absorbed some of its depreciation, which can help future sellers if prices stabilize. If you buy at the right number now, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss later than if you pay near the top of the range.

The current market also shows a fairly defined price band, which can make it easier to judge whether a listing is overpriced or a genuine value. For a future seller, that kind of clarity can help you set expectations and avoid chasing the market downward.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Buick Encore GX safe?

The 2022 Buick Encore GX earns the maximum five stars for overall crash protection from NHTSA and Good ratings from IIHS across its crash tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety suite includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, following-distance indicator, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assistance with lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, Teen Driver technology, and a tire-fill alert system. The Driver Confidence package is standard, and the available Advanced Technology package adds HD surround vision, adaptive cruise control, and a head-up display.

One caveat is that headlight performance varies by trim: the Essence trim’s LED headlights rate better than the Preferred and Select trims’ halogen units. That makes trim choice especially important if safety equipment is a priority for you.

Should I buy a 2022 Buick Encore GX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It is a carryover year with the same core formula, plus four new exterior paint colors.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $16,290, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $18,947 average.
• It offers a quieter, more refined everyday feel with a lower entry price.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $20,757, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $18,947 average.
• It adds a fresh paint option while keeping the same practical crossover formula.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, inventory, and proven equipment, the 2022 is the sensible pick. If your priority is spending less, the 2021 is the better value path; if you want the newest nearby example and do not mind paying more, the 2023 is the alternative to compare.
