The 2022 BMW X4 M proves you don’t need a sports car to get a true performance driving experience. The X4 M is a compact SUV with a fastback design and, yes, thrilling performance. Like the rest of the X4 lineup, the X4 M gets updated for the 2022 model year. In addition to freshened styling, the X4 M receives updated infotainment technology for the new model year.

The beating heart of the X4 M is its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine. It generates 473 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque. BMW also offers an X4 M Competition with the same engine but tuned to develop 503 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque. Power is routed through an eight-speed automatic transmission to all-wheel drive (AWD) with rear-wheel bias to give it that sports-car feel. The X4 M rounds out the experience with high-performance brakes and a sport-tuned suspension. Drivers can harness these systems as well as the steering, throttle response, and shift mapping in Comfort, Sport, and Sport drive modes.

The X4 M returns an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 14 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, 16 mpg combined. The high-performance X4 M requires premium fuel.

The standard 12.3-inch touchscreen can be remotely controlled thanks to a dial in the center of the console. The infotainment system supports standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and even has remote software updates built into it. Standard safety features include forward-collision avoidance, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, and traffic-sign recognition. Buyers can also select adaptive cruise control that can stop and go with traffic.

Pricing for the 2022 BMW X4 M starts at $69,900 for the standard versions and $73,400 for the X4 M Competition. The 2022 X4 M is expected to arrive in dealers in September of 2021.
