How much does the 2022 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 7.70% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,715 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of cars to compare.

Is the 2022 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2022 BMW 3 Series earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its sporty performance, great handling, and stylish design, and many also like the fuel efficiency and quick acceleration. For you, that means this is a strong fit if you want a sedan that feels engaging without giving up everyday usability.

The main trade-offs are that the manual transmission is not available and the stereo is lacking. It also fits shoppers who want a luxury sports sedan with easy-to-use technology rather than a flashy cabin.

Good and great deals account for 34.6% of listings, so there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with many owners highlighting its sporty performance and quick acceleration as part of a satisfying ownership experience. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that BMW backs up the car’s driving character with thrilling acceleration, unwavering brakes, and athletic handling.

BMW includes free scheduled maintenance, which helps reduce some early ownership costs. Even so, some owners mention oil leak concerns and high maintenance costs, so you should pay close attention to service history and long-term upkeep before buying used.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW 3 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or incomplete service records. Focus on condition, maintenance history, and whether the car has the equipment you want, since this model can vary a lot by trim and options.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes the 330i, 330e, M340i, and M3. The base setup is the 330i, while the M340i adds a more powerful six-cylinder and more aggressive styling and hardware. If you want the best value, the M340i stands out as the sweet spot for performance and everyday usability.
• Powertrain: The 330i and 330e use a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the M340i uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. The 330e adds plug-in hybrid electric vehicle technology with 23 miles of estimated electric driving range before reverting to gas-electric hybrid operation.
• Safety package: Active Guard is standard and includes forward-collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, city-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. The optional Driving Assistance package adds blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while Driving Assistance Professional adds lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, evasive-steering assist, Extended Traffic Jam Assistant, and Emergency Stop Assistant.
• Infotainment: Every 2022 3 Series gets Live Cockpit Professional with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, and a 10-speaker HiFi sound system. Connected Package Pro is standard, and BMW Remote Services plus Intelligent Personal Assistant are included.
• Fuel efficiency: The M340i returned 24.9 mpg on the evaluation route and is rated at 26 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2022 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW 3 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: 330i, 330e, M340i, M3.

Here's the short version:

• 330i: This is the entry point if you want the core 3 Series experience with the standard turbocharged four-cylinder and the full standard tech suite. It makes the most sense if you want the badge, the handling, and the everyday usability without stretching for extra performance.
• 330e: Choose this if you want the plug-in hybrid setup and the added efficiency-focused flexibility it brings. It suits you best if your driving pattern can take advantage of electric range and you want a more efficiency-minded version of the 3 Series.
• M340i: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the turbocharged inline-six, mild-hybrid tech, and a much more athletic personality. If you want the strongest blend of speed, handling, and daily livability, this is the one to target.
• M3: Pick this only if you want the highest-performance version and are willing to pay for it. It is the most specialized choice in the lineup.

For safety, note that advanced driver-assistance features are not standard, so check carefully for the packages you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW 3 Series?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,715 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.70% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,015, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $28,015 sits slightly below last year's $30,351.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than just the badge alone.

Because the model still has strong enthusiast appeal and broad buyer interest, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than average sedans. Cars with desirable equipment and clean history reports should hold up better than stripped or neglected examples.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2022 BMW 3 Series earns a Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and five-star ratings across the board from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, including for rollover resistance.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety package includes Active Guard, with forward-collision warning, pedestrian and cyclist detection, city-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. If you want blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, you need the optional Driving Assistance package.

The Driving Assistance Professional package adds lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, evasive-steering assist, Extended Traffic Jam Assistant, and Emergency Stop Assistant. One caveat is that only models with the optional adaptive LED headlights with Laserlight qualify for the Top Safety Pick award.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 34.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.70% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the Live Cockpit Professional setup standard across the lineup.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,912, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $28,015 average.
• It adds the 330e plug-in hybrid to the lineup.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $33,436, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $28,015 average.
• It brings sportier styling, interior updates, and more modern technology.

The bottom line: Choose the 2022 if you want the current-year balance of price, tech, and driving enjoyment. If you are more price-sensitive, the 2021 is the better value play; if you want fresher styling and updates, the 2023 is the upgrade path.
