About 2022 Audi Q5 Hybrid Plug-in
Audi is making a strong push into electric vehicles with its e-tron lineup, but that’s not the only alt-fuel initiative from the German luxury brand. The 2022 Audi Q5 Plug-In Hybrid combines electric driving with the range of a conventional powertrain. The Q5 was completely redesigned in 2018, and the plug-in variant arrived for the 2020 model year. For 2022, the Q5 Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) gains a larger battery capacity as well as some slight exterior design tweaks. The Q5 PHEV shares the same trim lineup as the conventionally powered Q5: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. The Premium comes well-equipped, including standard leather upholstery, tri-zone climate control, heated front seats, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay. Moving up to the Premium Plus adds a fully digital instrument panel (Audi’s Digital Cockpit), a panoramic sunroof, remote keyless entry, a heated steering wheel, a power tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and seat memory settings. The range-topping Prestige features Audi’s Matrix-LED lighting, heated and ventilated front seats, sport front bucket seats, and a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium stereo system. All trims come standard with forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and front-and-rear parking sensors. Buyers can also get a head-up display, traffic-sign recognition, and adaptive cruise control. The Q5 PHEV combines the conventional Q5’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with an electric motor and a 17.9 kWh battery pack to produce a combined 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. This battery pack is larger than that of the 2021 model, allowing the Q5 PHEV to travel 23 miles on electric-only power. That’s an increase of four miles farther than the 2021 model. The EPA measures alt-fuel vehicles in terms of miles per gallon of gasoline equivalent (MPGe). The 2022 Audi Q5 PHEV returns 61 MPGe thanks to its longer electric range, an 11-MPGe jump over the 2021 edition. Though, once the electric power is depleted, the Q5 returns 26 combined MPG, which is down one from the 2021 model. Base MSRP for the 2022 Audi Q5 55 TFSI e (Audi’s awkward technical name) is $45,600. The Premium Plus starts at $57,000, and the range-topping Prestige starts at $63,250. The Q5 Plug-In Hybrid is backed by a four-year/50,000-mile warranty. The battery pack is covered by an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty.
