How much does the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek cost?

Prices have softened 4.56% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,731 listings available, which suggests you have a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek earns 4.5/5 from owners and 7.8/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its value, safety features, fuel economy, handling, and comfortable driving experience. The main trade-offs are weaker power and acceleration, along with an interior that can feel less roomy than expected. That fits the Crosstrek’s role as a practical small crossover for buyers who want everyday ease, all-weather confidence, and a car-based driving feel rather than strong performance or a spacious cabin.

Good and great deals account for 35.0% of listings, so there is still some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as dependable, trouble-free, and a vehicle they can count on over the long term, with especially positive feedback around value and fuel economy. The expert review also points to Subaru’s fairly good reputation for reliability and notes that the Crosstrek’s cameras are better protected than grille-mounted systems used by some rivals, which can help avoid expensive repair bills after minor damage. Subaru’s five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty and three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty are average for the segment.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a well-used example may show the usual wear tied to its modest powertrain and busy daily-driver life, so condition matters a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Subaru Crosstrek?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been used in rough weather or on poor roads. Focus on overall condition, signs of cosmetic wear, and whether the safety and infotainment equipment works as expected. A clean record is a good start, but it should not replace a close look at maintenance and wear items.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base and Premium trims keep the simpler 2.0-liter setup, while the Sport and Limited add the 2.5-liter engine and more equipment. The interior is described as functional but somewhat plain, and the Sport trim’s simulated carbon-fiber trim pieces were noted as cheap-looking, though it does add water-repellant StarTex upholstery.
• Powertrain: The 2.5-liter boxer-four makes 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.0-liter boxer-four makes 152 hp and 145 lb-ft. A six-speed manual is still standard on Base and Premium, while the Sport and Limited are CVT only. Standard AWD, torque vectoring, and X-Mode are part of the Crosstrek’s appeal, and the Sport adds Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight system uses stereo cameras and, on CVT-equipped models, includes adaptive cruise control with lane centering, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Automatic high beams, reverse automatic braking, lane-change assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the Limited and optional on the Premium and Sport.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. Premium and Sport add WiFi, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a single-disc CD player. An 8-inch touchscreen with navigation is standard on the Limited and optional on lower trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine is rated at 29 mpg combined (27 city/34 highway). The 2.0-liter engine is rated at 30 mpg combined (28 city/33 highway) with the CVT and 25 mpg combined (22 city/29 highway) with the manual.

Which 2021 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the simplest way into the Crosstrek, and it makes sense if you want standard all-wheel drive and the model’s core practicality without paying for extras. It is the least expensive path, but it also keeps the more basic 2.0-liter engine and simpler equipment.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday convenience while staying below the Sport and Limited. It keeps the 2.0-liter engine but brings more equipment and is a sensible middle ground if you want a well-rounded Crosstrek without stretching for the bigger engine.
• Sport: This is the trim to choose if you want the stronger 2.5-liter engine and the more distinctive look and feel. It also gets the water-repellant StarTex upholstery and the extra Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud drive modes, making it the most appealing choice if you want the newer powertrain and a bit more character.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich version, and it is the one to buy if you want the most complete safety and tech package. It gets the 8-inch touchscreen with navigation standard, along with the most advanced driver-assistance equipment in the lineup.

For safety-package shoppers, the Limited stands out because features like automatic high beams, reverse automatic braking, lane-change assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert are standard there, while they are optional on the Premium and Sport.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Subaru Crosstrek?

The market looks moderate and selective, so you can shop carefully without expecting every good listing to linger.

• Deal availability: 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,731 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.56% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,487, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?

The current average of $20,620 sits slightly below last year's $21,606.

That softer pricing suggests the Crosstrek has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. A lower entry point can make it easier to hold value later, especially if the vehicle remains in clean condition and has a strong service history. The model’s broad appeal as a practical, all-weather small crossover should continue to support demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek safe?

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek received a five-star overall safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), with five stars in side crash tests and four stars in frontal and rollover crash tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight uses stereo cameras behind the windshield and, on CVT-equipped models, includes adaptive cruise control with lane centering, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Automatic high beams, reverse automatic braking, lane-change assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the Limited trim and optional on the Premium and Sport. The main caveat is that EyeSight’s cameras can be blocked by the windshield wipers or washed out in direct sunlight, which can temporarily disable the driver aids.

Should I buy a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.56% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model adds a new Sport trim, a 2.5-liter engine option, and an upgraded EyeSight system.

The bottom line: The 2021 Crosstrek makes sense if you want the updated lineup and a used price that has already eased a bit from last year. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby model year may still be worth comparing, but the 2021 is the better pick if you want the newer trim and powertrain choices without moving to a much newer vehicle.
