How much does the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek cost?

Prices have softened 6.13% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,734 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek earns a 4.5/5 user rating, and our experts give it 7.83/10 overall. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its value, safety features, fuel economy, handling, and comfortable driving experience. The main trade-offs are its limited power and acceleration, along with interior space that some drivers find less roomy than expected. For you, that means the Crosstrek makes the most sense if you want a practical small crossover with everyday usability rather than a quick or especially spacious one. Good and great deals account for 33.7% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable, with praise for value, safety, fuel economy, and a comfortable driving experience. The expert evaluation also describes Subaru as having a fairly good reputation for reliability, and it notes that the Crosstrek’s pricing and equipment make it a good long-term investment. Subaru’s five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty and three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty are average for the segment, so your long-term ownership risk is more about choosing a well-kept example than worrying about an obvious weak spot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Subaru Crosstrek?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are not the same thing as problem-free listings. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, tire wear, brake condition, and how the drivetrain feels on a test drive. Since this model’s appeal is tied to practicality and safety, you should also pay close attention to whether the features you want are actually present on the specific trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base trim gives you the Crosstrek’s core formula, but the Premium, Sport, and Limited trims add meaningful equipment. The interior is functional but somewhat plain-looking, and the Sport trim stands out with water-repellant StarTex upholstery, while the Limited brings a more upscale equipment mix. If you want the best value, the Sport is the trim that most clearly balances added equipment with the stronger engine.
• Powertrain: The base and Premium trims use a 2.0-liter boxer-four with 152 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque, while the Sport and Limited get a 2.5-liter boxer-four with 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual is standard on the base and Premium trims, while the Sport and Limited are CVT only. All trims get standard AWD, torque vectoring, and X-Mode.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight system is standard on CVT-equipped models and includes adaptive cruise control with lane centering, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Automatic high beams, reverse automatic braking, lane-change assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the Limited and optional on the Premium and Sport.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes a 6.5-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. Premium and Sport trims add WiFi and SiriusXM, while the Limited gets an 8-inch touchscreen with navigation as standard.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine is rated at 29 mpg combined. With the 2.0-liter engine, the CVT version is rated at 30 mpg combined, while the manual version is rated at 25 mpg combined.

Which 2021 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 4 trim levels: base, Premium, Sport, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• base: This is the entry point if you want the Crosstrek’s standard AWD, raised ride height, and core practicality at the lowest price. It keeps the simpler 2.0-liter engine and manual transmission, so it makes the most sense if you value affordability over extra power and equipment.
• Premium: This trim adds more convenience and tech than the base model, including the Multimedia Plus setup. It still uses the 2.0-liter engine, so it is best if you want a better-equipped Crosstrek without moving up to the pricier Sport or Limited.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 2.5-liter engine, more power, and extra character. It also gets StarTex upholstery and additional drive modes, making it the sweet spot if you want the most noticeable upgrade in everyday driving.
• Limited: This is the most fully equipped version, with the 8-inch touchscreen and navigation standard, plus the most complete safety feature set. Choose it if you want the most comfort and convenience features and are willing to pay for them.

Limited trims get the fullest safety package, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional on Premium and Sport.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Subaru Crosstrek?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,734 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.13% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,495, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?

The current average of $20,832 sits slightly below last year's $22,193.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may also mean future sellers need to price competitively. If you buy at the right number and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you should have a better chance of preserving value when it’s time to sell. The Crosstrek’s broad appeal, standard AWD, and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand over time.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek safe?

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side crash tests and four-star ratings in frontal and rollover crash tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Subaru’s EyeSight system is the core driver-assistance suite, and CVT-equipped models get adaptive cruise control with lane centering, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Automatic high beams, reverse automatic braking, lane-change assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the Limited and optional on the Premium and Sport. The main caveat is that the EyeSight cameras can be blocked by the windshield wipers or washed out in direct sunlight, which can temporarily disable driver aids.

Should I buy a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.13% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model adds the Sport trim, the available 2.5-liter engine, and an upgraded EyeSight system.

The bottom line: The 2021 Crosstrek is the right pick if you want the updated lineup and a strong mix of safety, value, and standard AWD. If you’re mainly focused on the lowest possible purchase price, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2021 gives you a well-rounded version of the Crosstrek formula with meaningful upgrades.
