How much does the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek cost?

Prices have softened 5.60% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,761 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek a good car?

Yes — the 4.5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.83/10. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its value, safety features, fuel economy, and comfortable driving experience. The Crosstrek also gets credit for handling that feels composed and easy to live with, especially if you want something practical rather than sporty.

The trade-offs are familiar: sluggish performance and not much cargo space. The overview also frames it as a good fit if you want a small crossover with a rugged look, standard all-wheel drive, and everyday manners rather than strong acceleration or a roomy cabin.

Good and great deals account for 35.8% of listings, which is a healthy sign that you can still find competitive pricing.

Is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner summary also points to value, safety features, fuel economy, and a comfortable driving experience, all of which tend to align with dependable day-to-day ownership.

The expert review adds that Subaru has a fairly good reputation for reliability, and the Crosstrek’s well-equipped, straightforward setup supports that impression. It also notes that the cameras used by EyeSight are better protected than grille-mounted systems used by some rivals, which may help avoid expensive repair bills after minor impacts.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about living with the Crosstrek’s modest power and limited space over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Subaru Crosstrek?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if it looks clean on the listing page. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on a used Crosstrek because you want to confirm the condition of the drivetrain, brakes, tires, and driver-assistance hardware. Focus on how the car drives, how the cabin has worn, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base and Premium trims keep the simpler 2.0-liter engine, while the Sport and Limited trims add the 2.5-liter engine and more equipment. The interior is functional but plain, and the Sport trim adds StarTex upholstery plus a more distinctive appearance. If you want the best value, the Sport stands out because it combines the stronger engine with useful equipment without jumping all the way to the top trim.
• Powertrain: The base and Premium trims use a 2.0-liter boxer-four with 152 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque, while the Sport and Limited use a 2.5-liter boxer-four with 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual is standard on Base and Premium, but the Sport and Limited are CVT only. All trims get standard AWD, torque vectoring, and X-Mode.
• Safety package: EyeSight is the driver-assistance suite, and CVT-equipped models get adaptive cruise control with lane centering, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Automatic high beams, reverse automatic braking, lane-change assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the Limited and optional on the Premium and Sport.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 6.5-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth. Premium and Sport trims add WiFi, SiriusXM, and a single-disc CD player. An 8-inch touchscreen with navigation is standard on the Limited and optional on lower trims.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter engine is rated at 29 mpg combined. The 2.0-liter engine is rated at 30 mpg combined with the CVT and 25 mpg combined with the manual transmission.

Which 2021 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the simplest way into the Crosstrek, and it keeps the standard AWD formula, manual transmission, and core practicality. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and are comfortable with fewer convenience features.
• Premium: This trim adds more everyday usability than the Base while keeping the smaller engine. It’s the better pick if you want a more balanced setup without paying for the stronger engine.
• Sport: This is the best-value trim because it adds the 2.5-liter engine, more torque, and extra equipment like StarTex upholstery and the more distinctive Sport appearance. It also gets Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud modes, which make it the most appealing choice if you want the strongest mix of value and capability.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich trim, with the larger engine and the standard 8-inch touchscreen with navigation. It also gets the fullest safety feature set, so it’s the right choice if you want the most equipment and are willing to pay for it.

Limited trim models get the fullest safety package, while blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are optional on Premium and Sport.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Subaru Crosstrek?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,761 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.60% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 76.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,492, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?

The current average of $20,847 sits slightly below last year's $22,083.

That decline suggests the market has cooled, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For future sellers, the softer pricing trend means you should expect more competition from similarly priced listings.

Even so, the Crosstrek’s broad appeal as a practical, all-wheel-drive small crossover should help it stay relevant with used buyers. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek safe?

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek received a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA, with five-star side crash ratings and four-star frontal and rollover crash ratings.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

EyeSight is the named driver-assistance suite, and CVT-equipped models get adaptive cruise control with lane centering, automatic emergency braking, and lane-departure warning. Automatic high beams, reverse automatic braking, lane-change assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the Limited trim and optional on the Premium and Sport.

One caveat is that the EyeSight cameras can be blocked by windshield wipers or washed out in direct sunlight, which can temporarily disable driver aids. The upside is that the cameras are better protected than some rival systems, which may reduce repair costs after minor damage.

Should I buy a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.60% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 model adds a new Sport trim, a 2.5-liter engine option, and an upgraded EyeSight system.

The bottom line: The 2021 Crosstrek is the right pick if you want the updated lineup, strong owner satisfaction, and a used market that still offers meaningful deal potential. If you’re especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2021’s added engine choice and safety updates make it the more compelling buy for most shoppers.
