Used 2021 Land Rover Discovery for Sale nearChicago, IL

Is the 2021 Land Rover Discovery a good car?

The 2021 Land Rover Discovery earns a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Technology.

It’s a strong fit if you want a luxury family SUV that still takes off-road ability seriously. The 2021 updates help keep it current, with new engines, refreshed styling, redesigned second-row seats, and a new infotainment system. It also brings standard all-wheel drive and a comfortable ride, which makes it appealing if you want something more upscale and more capable than a typical three-row SUV.

The trade-offs are real, though: performance is described as sluggish, handling is poor, and touchscreen response is sluggish as well. Even so, the Discovery’s clear appeal is its mix of comfort, standard all-wheel drive, and genuine off-road capability.

40.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you a decent amount of market flexibility.

Is the 2021 Land Rover Discovery reliable?

The 2021 Land Rover Discovery is presented as a modernized version of a long-running nameplate, with updates that include new engines and a new infotainment system. The expert review also notes that the Discovery has evolved over time into a more luxurious and more tech-savvy SUV, while still keeping its off-road identity intact.

On the mechanical side, the performance writeup points to a smooth blend of gasoline and electric power in the mild-hybrid setup, and it describes the vehicle as having enough power for everyday use. The cost-effectiveness section also notes a four-year, 50,000-mile limited warranty and a six-year corrosion/perforation warranty with unlimited mileage.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that this is still a complex luxury SUV, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Land Rover Discovery?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage doesn’t replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the drivetrain, electronics, and suspension, since this is a feature-rich luxury SUV. It’s also worth paying close attention to cabin condition and how well the touchscreen and other tech functions operate.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base S is the entry point, while the R-Dynamic treatment adds a gloss black grille and other exterior trim, plus two-tone leather upholstery with contrast stitching on the higher-spec look package. The base trim is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment.
• Powertrain: You get a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 296 horsepower and 296 pound-feet of torque, or a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with mild-hybrid assist making 355 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. All models use an eight-speed automatic and standard four-wheel drive.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assist tech includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic-sign recognition, and a 360-degree camera system. Adaptive cruise control is extra-cost.
• Infotainment: The standard setup includes a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.4-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and simultaneous Bluetooth pairing are standard, while wireless phone charging and a head-up display are optional.
• Fuel efficiency: EPA ratings are 21 mpg combined for the turbo-four and 21 mpg combined for the six-cylinder mild-hybrid powertrain. The six-cylinder is rated at 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway.

Which 2021 Land Rover Discovery trim should I buy?

The 2021 Land Rover Discovery is offered in 3 trim levels: S, R-Dynamic S, and R-Dynamic HSE.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Discovery formula with standard 4WD, leather seats, and the full digital gauge cluster and touchscreen setup. It makes sense if you want the Discovery experience without stretching too far on price.
• R-Dynamic S: This is the best-value choice if you want a more upscale look and a richer cabin presentation. It adds the R-Dynamic exterior treatment and two-tone leather upholstery with contrast stitching, and it’s the trim tested by the experts.
• R-Dynamic HSE: This is the range-topping choice if you want the most upscale version of the Discovery lineup. It builds on the R-Dynamic theme and sits at the top of the pricing ladder.

Adaptive cruise control is not standard, so make sure you check whether the specific trim you’re considering has the safety equipment you want.

Standard driver-assist tech includes automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, traffic-sign recognition, and a 360-degree camera system. Adaptive cruise control is an extra-cost option, so you’ll want to confirm whether a used example has it equipped.

Should I buy a 2021 Land Rover Discovery or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 40.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• It gets new engines, refreshed exterior styling, redesigned second-row seats, and a new infotainment system.

The bottom line: The 2021 is the right pick if you want the Discovery with the most up-to-date mix of styling, tech, and capability in this generation. If you’re more price-sensitive, a nearby older model year may be worth a look, but the 2021’s updates make it the cleaner choice for shoppers who want the most current version of this SUV’s formula.
