How much does the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee cost?

Prices have softened 11.17% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 6,437 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?

Yes — with a 4.62/5 user rating and a 7.17/10 expert rating, you’re looking at a used SUV that lands well with owners and still scores respectably with our testers. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise the spacious interior, smooth ride, impressive power, off-road capability, advanced technology features, and luxury feel. The main trade-offs are that some shoppers feel it lacks certain tech features for the price, and gas mileage can be a weak point.

That lines up with the broader use case here: you’re getting a familiar two-row SUV with upscale styling and a premium-feeling cabin, rather than waiting for the redesign. 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there’s still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?

Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable-feeling SUV that many drivers are happy to live with over time, especially because they value its spacious cabin, smooth ride, and strong all-around capability. The review summary also suggests people feel confident in its long-term usefulness, with several calling out its trouble-free character and ability to handle daily driving well.

Jeep’s ownership program adds some peace of mind, including free scheduled maintenance for the first three years and 36,000 miles. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that age-related wear and higher operating costs can matter more if the vehicle has been driven hard or maintained inconsistently.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

At 73.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with off-road use. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle’s equipment matches the trim you’re paying for. Because safety features are not standard across the lineup, it’s worth confirming exactly which driver-assistance items are installed on the specific listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup spans the affordable Laredo and Limited, the upscale Overland and Summit, the Trailhawk for serious off-roading, and the SRT and Trackhawk for performance-focused buyers. The base trims are the ones most likely to leave you wanting more, while the Summit adds a more luxurious feel with premium materials and a richer presentation.
• Powertrain: The standard 3.6-liter V6 makes 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque and is paired with an eight-speed automatic. A 5.7-liter V8 is available with 360 hp, 390 lb-ft of torque, and stronger towing capability, but it uses more fuel.
• Safety package: Jeep offers ProTech II on some trims, and it includes adaptive cruise control with full stop-and-go, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. Lower trims may not include these features.
• Infotainment: The Uconnect 4C with Nav system includes navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and Jeep Skill for Amazon Alexa. It is responsive and easy to use, though it does not bring the next-generation interface found in the redesigned model.
• Fuel efficiency: The V8 is described as returning no more than 17 mpg in combined driving, and the review notes that fuel economy can be a weak point.

Which 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 6 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit, Trailhawk, SRT, Trackhawk.

Here's the short version:

• Laredo: This is the entry point if you want the Grand Cherokee’s styling and core capability at the lowest price, but it’s also the trim most likely to feel sparse compared with the better-equipped versions.
• Limited: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more comfort and polish without pushing you into the pricier luxury trims.
• Overland: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and are willing to pay for a richer cabin and more premium presentation.
• Summit: This is the luxury pick, with the most premium interior materials and the most upscale overall vibe in the lineup.
• Trailhawk: Pick this if off-road use matters most, since it is the trim aimed at serious trail capability.
• SRT: This is the performance-focused choice for buyers who want the sportier side of the Grand Cherokee.
• Trackhawk: This is the most extreme performance model in the lineup, aimed at buyers who want maximum straight-line excitement.

The safety package is not standard across the lineup, so check carefully for ProTech II or equivalent equipment on any trim you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The market looks moderate and selective, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.

• Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 6,437 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.17% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 73.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,391, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $22,402 sits slightly below last year's $25,218.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to soften the impact of future depreciation. The model’s broad appeal, premium image, and capability still help support demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA with 4WD, but 2WD versions drop to a four-star overall rating because of a three-star rollover resistance rating. It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.

Jeep offers the ProTech II package on some trims, and it includes adaptive cruise control with full stop-and-go, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic high-beam headlights. The SUV also includes a backup camera with guidance lines, parking sensors, and ParkSense parking assistance.

The concern is the IIHS performance: the Grand Cherokee earns a “Marginal” driver rating and a “Poor” front-passenger rating in small-overlap frontal testing, and its headlights also rate “Poor” unless you upgrade to the better lighting setup. That makes safety equipment and trim selection especially important if you’re shopping used.

Should I buy a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 73.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.17% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It’s the last version of the current-generation two-row Grand Cherokee before the redesign arrives.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $20,303, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $22,402 average.
• It’s a familiar, broad-appeal SUV nearing a redesign.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $26,803, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $22,402 average.
• It brings a redesigned cabin with a major technology upgrade.

The bottom line: If you want the familiar two-row Grand Cherokee and like the current market pricing, the 2021 is the sweet spot to target. If your priority is saving money, the 2020 is the better value play. If you want the newer design and tech, it makes sense to move up to the 2022 instead.
