How much does the 2021 GMC Canyon cost?

Prices have softened 8.96% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,186 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon a good car?

Generally — the 2021 GMC Canyon earns a 4.25/5 user rating and a 7.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its value, appearance, and feature content, and they also like the spacious interior and luxury-like touches for the price. The main trade-offs are a stiff, loud ride on the highway and some complaints about the diesel engine’s power in certain situations. That fits the Canyon’s role as a midsize pickup that leans toward lifestyle use and weekend versatility rather than full-size-truck capability. With 32.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.25/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck people feel good about living with over time, especially because they value its features and overall usefulness. The expert evaluation also describes it as a capable, enjoyable pickup, and the diesel setup is presented as a strong-efficiency option for buyers who want more from the powertrain. The available maintenance perk language is not present here, so your best move is to focus on service records and how the truck has been used. For used buyers, the biggest long-term ownership risk is buying a truck that has been worked hard without proper maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 GMC Canyon?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate, because accident-free status is only a starting point. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the suspension, brakes, tires, and signs of hard use, especially if you’re considering a truck that may have been used for towing or off-road driving. Pay close attention to cabin wear and ride quality, since the Canyon’s interior and road manners are recurring discussion points.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Elevation Standard is the base trim and comes with 18-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels, signature LED running lights, the CornerStep rear bumper, black door handles and side mirrors, manually adjustable front seats, power locks, two USB ports, and a standard 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Elevation adds LED fog lights, remote start, body-color door handles, a manually sliding rear window, a six-way power driver's seat, automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and aluminum interior accents. The AT4 is the off-road-inspired premium trim level with 17-inch dark metallic aluminum wheels, aggressive Goodyear all-terrain tires, red tow hooks, off-road suspension, and added underbody skid plates. The Denali adds polished aluminum wheels, polished exhaust tip, chrome side steps, chrome door handles, LED bed lighting, a spray-on bed-liner, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, an 8-inch infotainment system, Bose premium audio, heated-and-cooled front seats, and a wireless charging pad.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque with a six-speed automatic. A 3.6-liter V6 makes 308 hp and 275 lb-ft with an eight-speed automatic and is standard on the AT4 and Denali. A 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder turbodiesel makes 181 hp and 369 lb-ft with a six-speed automatic. The base gasoline four-cylinder has to work hard, while the V6 is the better choice and the diesel brings strong torque.
• Safety package: The standard safety equipment includes a rearview camera, tire pressure monitoring system, front-and-side-impact airbags, traction control, and the Teen Driver system. The available Driver Alert package adds forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and rear parking alert, and it is standard on the Denali but optional on other trims. The Denali also adds an upgraded HD backup camera and Hitch Guidance.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An 8-inch screen is optional on the Elevation and AT4 trims and standard on the Denali. The Denali also adds navigation, HD radio, a wireless charging pad, and a 4.2-inch color driver display.

The V6 returns 18 mpg city, 25 highway, 21 combined with rear-wheel drive and 17 mpg city, 24 highway, 19 combined with four-wheel drive.

Which 2021 GMC Canyon trim should I buy?

The 2021 GMC Canyon is offered in 4 trim levels: Elevation Standard, Elevation, AT4, and Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Elevation Standard: This is the value entry point if you want the Canyon’s core utility without stretching the budget. You get the basics, the standard 7-inch touchscreen, and the useful exterior hardware, but it is the most stripped-down version.
• Elevation: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful everyday upgrades like remote start, automatic climate control, a power driver’s seat, and LED fog lights without jumping all the way to the premium end.
• AT4: Choose this if you want the off-road-inspired setup, since it adds all-terrain tires, off-road suspension, skid plates, and the standard V6. It suits you best if you want more capability and a tougher look.
• Denali: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with the 8-inch screen, Bose audio, heated-and-cooled front seats, wireless charging, and the full Driver Alert package standard. It makes the most sense if you want the most features and the most upscale feel.

The Driver Alert package is standard on the Denali and optional on the other trims.

• Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,186 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.96% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,745, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 GMC Canyon's resale value?

The current average of $27,747 sits slightly below last year's $30,478.

That price movement suggests the Canyon has softened enough to create a better buying window now, but it also means future sellers may need to be realistic about expectations. If you buy at a favorable price and keep the truck in clean condition, you can help protect your exit value later. The Canyon’s broad appeal as a midsize pickup with multiple trims and powertrains should help support demand, especially for well-equipped examples.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.25/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2021 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.25/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It brings a refreshed look and an AT4 off-road-inspired trim while keeping the Canyon’s familiar character.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $30,172, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $27,747 average.
• It adds a new Denali Black Edition package and renames High Elevation to Elevation Premium.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2021 is the stronger starting point because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly updated package lineup, the 2022 is the cleaner choice for shoppers who want the newer model-year step-up.
