How much does the 2021 GMC Canyon cost?

Prices have softened 7.82% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,212 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable range of choices.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon a good car?

Generally — the 2021 GMC Canyon earns a 4.3/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its value, appearance, and features, and they also like the spacious interior and luxury-like features for the price. The main trade-offs are a stiff, loud ride on the highway and some complaints about the diesel engine lacking power in certain situations.

For you, that means the Canyon makes the most sense if you want a midsize truck that feels more upscale than basic and still fits weekend-duty use. Good and great deals account for 32.2% of listings, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon reliable?

Owners rate it 4.3/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a truck that many people feel good about living with over time, especially because they value its features and overall usefulness. The expert drive notes also describe it as capable and enjoyable, which supports the idea that it can be a dependable everyday pickup when maintained properly.

If you’re buying used, the biggest long-term ownership risk is ending up with a truck that has been worked hard or neglected, so condition and service history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 GMC Canyon?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on every candidate, because accident-free listings can still hide maintenance gaps or prior damage. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you’re considering a higher-mileage truck or one with off-road use. Focus on cabin wear, ride quality, and how the truck feels under load, since those are the areas most likely to affect your ownership experience.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Elevation Standard comes with 18-inch gloss-black aluminum wheels, signature LED running lights, the CornerStep rear bumper, black door handles and side mirrors, manually adjustable front seats, power locks, two USB ports, and a standard 7-inch touchscreen. The Elevation adds LED fog lights, remote start, body-color door handles, a manually sliding rear window, a six-way power driver’s seat, automatic climate control, auto-dimming rearview mirror, and aluminum interior accents. The AT4 adds 17-inch dark metallic aluminum wheels, aggressive all-terrain tires, red tow hooks, off-road suspension, and underbody skid plates. The Denali adds polished aluminum wheels, polished exhaust tip, chrome side steps, chrome door handles, LED bed lighting, a spray-on bed-liner, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, an 8-inch infotainment system, Bose premium audio, heated-and-cooled front seats, and wireless charging.
• Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder makes 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque through a six-speed automatic, and the 3.6-liter V6 is optional on Elevation trims and standard on AT4 and Denali. A 2.8-liter Duramax four-cylinder turbodiesel is also available, with 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The base gas four-cylinder has to work hard, so the V6 is the better choice if you want stronger everyday performance.
• Safety package: Standard safety features include a rearview camera, tire pressure monitoring system, front-and-side-impact airbags, traction control, and the Teen Driver system. The Driver Alert package adds forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and rear parking alert, and it is standard on the Denali but optional on other trims.
• Infotainment: The standard setup is a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An 8-inch screen is optional on the Elevation and AT4 trims and standard on the Denali. The Denali also adds navigation, HD radio, and wireless charging.
• Fuel efficiency: The base four-cylinder gas engine with RWD returns 19 mpg city, 25 highway, 22 combined. With 4WD, it returns 19 mpg city, 24 highway, 21 combined. The gas V6 with RWD returns 18 mpg city, 25 highway, 21 combined, while the V6 4WD test truck returned 17 mpg city, 24 highway, 19 combined. The optional diesel with RWD returns 20 mpg city, 30 highway, 23 combined, and with 4WD it returns 19 mpg city, 28 highway, 22 combined.

Which 2021 GMC Canyon trim should I buy?

The 2021 GMC Canyon is offered in 4 trim levels: Elevation Standard, Elevation, AT4, and Denali.

Here's the short version:

• Elevation Standard: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Canyon’s core look and basic tech without much extra equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting point, but it is the most stripped-down version.
• Elevation: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds useful everyday upgrades like remote start, automatic climate control, a power driver’s seat, and more convenience features without jumping all the way to the premium trims.
• AT4: This is the one to choose if you want the off-road-inspired setup, with all-terrain tires, skid plates, off-road suspension, and the standard V6 and 4WD. It suits you best if weekend trail use matters.
• Denali: This is the most upscale version, with the biggest infotainment screen, premium audio, heated-and-cooled front seats, wireless charging, and more luxury touches. It is the right pick if you want the most comfort and convenience.

The Driver Alert package is standard on the Denali and optional on the other trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 GMC Canyon?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find decent opportunities.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,212 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.82% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,731, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 GMC Canyon's resale value?

The current average of $27,785 sits slightly below last year's $30,142.

That price movement suggests the Canyon has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell. The truck’s broad appeal as a midsize pickup also helps support demand among shoppers who want something smaller than a full-size truck.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.3/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 GMC Canyon safe?

The 2021 GMC Canyon earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include a rearview camera, tire pressure monitoring system, front-and-side-impact airbags, traction control, and the Teen Driver system. The available Driver Alert package adds forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and rear parking alert, and it is standard on the Denali but optional on other trims. The Denali also adds an upgraded HD backup camera and Hitch Guidance.

Should I buy a 2021 GMC Canyon or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.82% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.3/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The refreshed look and new AT4 trim give it a more modern, more distinctive feel.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $29,833, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $27,785 average.
• It adds a Denali Black Edition package and renames High Elevation to Elevation Premium.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2021 is the stronger buy because prices are softer and deal availability is decent. If you’re willing to pay more for a slightly updated lineup and package changes, the 2022 is the cleaner alternative.
