Owners consistently praise its powerful performance, modern technology, and excellent ride comfort, while also calling out versatility and fuel efficiency from the smaller engines. Ford also includes a three-year, 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty and a five-year, 60,000-mile powertrain warranty, which helps support early ownership confidence. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that higher-mileage trucks may reflect how heavily they were worked or optioned.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Ford F-150?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 82% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any truck you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the drivetrain, electronics, and any towing-related hardware, since this truck can be configured in many ways. Focus on overall condition, because trim and equipment levels vary widely and can change both comfort and ownership costs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base XL trim uses spartan materials, while King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited move toward a much more luxurious feel. If you want the best value, the XLT and Lariat are the trims most likely to balance equipment and price well.
• Powertrain: You have a wide range of engines, including a 3.3-liter V6, 5.0-liter V8, 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6, Power Stroke 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6, and the PowerBoost hybrid. The hybrid is the most powerful option, but it is not the best value if you’re focused on cost.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, hill-descent control, and intersection assist are available at extra cost, so check carefully for feature gaps on the truck you’re shopping.
• Infotainment: Sync 4 brings an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and over-the-air updates. Higher trims can add a 12-inch touchscreen and a 12-inch digital instrument cluster.
• Fuel efficiency: The PowerBoost hybrid returns 25 mpg city and 26 mpg highway with rear-wheel drive, or 24 mpg city and 24 mpg highway with four-wheel drive. The 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 matches the hybrid’s highway mpg, and the Power Stroke diesel is rated at 27 mpg highway with 4WD.

Which 2021 Ford F-150 trim should I buy?

The 2021 Ford F-150 is offered in 6 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the lowest starting cost and plan to add only the equipment you truly need. It’s the most basic version, so it’s best for buyers who care more about utility than comfort.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it sits in the middle of the lineup and should give you a better balance of features and price than the base model. It’s the trim to target if you want a more complete truck without moving into luxury pricing.
• Lariat: This trim is the step up for buyers who want more comfort and convenience without jumping all the way to the premium end of the range. It’s a good fit if you want a more polished daily driver.
• King Ranch: This trim leans upscale, with leather upholstery and wood trim that make the cabin feel much fancier than the lower trims. It suits you if you want a luxury-leaning truck with a distinctive look and feel.
• Platinum: This is another high-end choice that pushes the cabin toward a more premium experience. It’s a strong pick if you want comfort and refinement to matter as much as capability.
• Limited: This is the top-end trim for buyers who want the most upscale version of the truck. It makes the most sense if you want maximum equipment and are willing to pay for it.

Advanced safety features are not standard, so check the exact truck carefully for driver-assistance equipment.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Ford F-150?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on strong listings.

• Deal availability: 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 14,558 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.81% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 82.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $31,813, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Ford F-150's resale value?

The current average of $31,813 sits slightly below last year's $34,509.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to help you buy more selectively today. For a future seller, the softer trend means resale value may not rise quickly in the near term, so condition and equipment will matter more when it’s time to list. Trucks with desirable features and strong maintenance records should still draw attention, especially because this model year has broad appeal and strong owner satisfaction.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Ford F-150 safe?

The 2021 Ford F-150 earns a good roof-strength rating from IIHS, but full crash-test ratings from NHTSA and IIHS weren’t available yet when it launched. It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard Ford Co-Pilot360 equipment includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. Lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, hill-descent control, and intersection assist are available, but they are not standard across the lineup. That means you should verify the exact truck’s equipment rather than assuming it has the full driver-assistance suite. The main caveat is that advanced safety features are not standard, so trim and option content matter a lot here.

Should I buy a 2021 Ford F-150 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 82% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 redesign adds more tech, a revamped interior, and the available PowerBoost hybrid.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $27,519, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $31,813 average.
• It offers an accommodating and modern interior with comfortable road manners.

The bottom line: If you want the newer truck with more tech and broader appeal, the 2021 is the better all-around choice. If your priority is saving money up front, the 2020 is the smarter value play.
