How much does the 2021 BMW 4 Series cost?

Prices have softened 6.30% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2021 BMW 4 Series a good car?

Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 6.83/10. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

The 2021 BMW 4 Series fits you best if you want a premium two-door that feels distinct, with a bigger, more luxurious design and a strong technology focus. The test-drive notes also call out great handling and impressive technology as strengths.

The trade-offs are worth weighing: the design is potentially polarizing, and the back seat is cramped. If you value style, handling, and a strong feature set more than outright practicality, those compromises may be easier to accept.

36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 BMW 4 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2021 BMW 4 Series is described as refined and user friendly, with a premium feel that should make daily ownership pleasant. Its standard powertrains and eight-speed automatic are designed for smooth, modern operation, and the available 48-volt starter/generator on the six-cylinder model adds a fuel-efficiency benefit.

BMW’s standard warranty covers four years or 50,000 miles, with four years of free roadside assistance. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that luxury-car upkeep can be costly if the car was heavily optioned or not maintained carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW 4 Series?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the transmission behavior, wheel and tire condition, and any signs of heavy use. Pay close attention to whether the car has the features you want, since some desirable equipment is optional.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 430i and M440i both bring the 4 Series’ distinctive styling and premium feel, but the base setup is more about the core coupe experience while higher-spec versions add more performance-oriented equipment.
• Powertrain: The 430i uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 255 horsepower and 294 pound-feet of torque, while the M440i uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 382 hp and 369 lb-ft. The six-cylinder also adds a 48-volt starter/generator for better fuel efficiency.
• Safety package: Standard driver-assist features include lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, and speed-limit information. Adaptive cruise control requires the Driving Assistance Professional Package.
• Infotainment: Standard iDrive 7 includes an 8.8-inch touchscreen, while the available Live Cockpit Professional setup upgrades to a 10.25-inch central touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
• Fuel efficiency: The rear-wheel-drive 430i is rated at 29 mpg combined, while the xDrive version is rated at 27 mpg combined.

Which 2021 BMW 4 Series trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW 4 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 430i and M440i.

Here's the short version:

• 430i: This is the value play if you want the core 4 Series experience with the 2.0-liter turbo four, strong standard tech, and the styling that defines the model. It gives you the best entry point into the lineup without pushing you into the pricier six-cylinder setup.
• M440i: Choose this if you want the stronger 3.0-liter turbo inline-six and the more performance-focused character that comes with it. It suits you best if you care more about acceleration and a richer powertrain than about keeping the purchase price down.

Adaptive cruise control is not standard; you need the Driving Assistance Professional Package to get it.

• Deal availability: 36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 671 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.30% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $32,022, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW 4 Series's resale value?

The current average of $32,690 sits slightly below last year's $34,887.

That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than broad market momentum alone.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW 4 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.30% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It emphasizes style, handling, and technology over practicality.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $35,310, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $32,690 average.
• It adds a five-door hatchback body style with easier rear-seat access.

The bottom line: If you want the lower price and the classic coupe or convertible setup, the 2021 is the better buy. If you need easier rear-seat access and more everyday utility, the 2022 is the smarter path, even at a higher price.
