CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Nissan Versa
overall

Summary
With 45 currently listed for sale near Atlanta, GA and an average price of $11,784.00, 17.8% of 2020 Nissan Versas for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Nissan Versa 4.71 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.17 / 10.
93.3% of 2020 Versa models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Nissan Versa stands out as a budget-minded small car that feels more substantial than its price suggests. Nissan made it more expensive than the old one, but the added cost is justified by improved infotainment, better safety tech, and a livelier ride. That combination gives the Versa a stronger appeal than a bare-bones economy car, especially for buyers who want a new vehicle without giving up the basics that make daily driving easier.
Its biggest strengths are value and standard advanced safety features, which help it feel like a smarter buy than its low-cost reputation might imply. The 2020 Versa also benefits from comfort and impressive fuel efficiency, according to owner feedback, and many drivers appreciate technology and features that are usually found in more expensive cars. Those qualities make it easy to understand why it can work well for shoppers trying to stretch a tight budget.
The tradeoffs are still part of the story, though. Performance is described as fairly pedestrian, and the back seat is cramped. Some owners also raised concerns about braking performance, particularly the rear brakes. Even so, the 2020 Nissan Versa’s mix of affordability, safety equipment, and improved refinement gives it a clearer identity than many cars in its class.

Best value for the money especially on SR version. Comfortable ride n seats fuel efficient engine with much much more reliable cvt hands down. The car has so much technology that is a steal and even thoughtful ones . First new car option is perfect. Its much more attractive looks is perfect on SR. While its not an Maxima in performance its just right for daily commute. One thing I recommend is to swap out rear drums for rotors or brakes like the front. Its just my opinion in terms of improving the stopping power. It takes so much pressure to stop it and long distance too.

I think it’s a great car for the money. Has all the features like the higher end model vehicles does. Drives great handles, great and great on gas. The 2020 Vesra is a huge improvement.

The trade-offs are a fairly pedestrian performance and a cramped back seat. In practical terms, that means the Versa makes the most sense if you want a budget-friendly daily driver rather than something that feels quick or especially roomy.
The overview points to a small car that feels more substantial than its price suggests, with stronger appeal for buyers who want a new vehicle without giving up the basics that make daily driving easier. About 23.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Nissan Versa reliable?
Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to a car that owners feel good about living with over time, especially because they value its comfort, value, and fuel efficiency. That kind of response usually lines up with a vehicle people feel they can count on for everyday use.
The expert evaluation also describes the Versa as a better car than the one it replaces, with a livelier driving experience and more useful tech. On the ownership side, the main risk for used buyers is making sure the car has been maintained well enough to preserve that dependable feel.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Nissan Versa?
At 63.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and any signs of prior repair. Because some listings have accident history, condition matters more than usual, especially if you want to avoid hidden repair issues.
Pay extra attention to braking feel and rear-brake performance, since owner feedback raised concerns there. It is also worth checking that the cabin electronics, safety systems, and infotainment features all work as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The S is the most basic version, with steel wheels, cloth seating, a 7-inch touchscreen, and manual seat adjustments, while the SV adds alloy wheels, upgraded cloth, heated mirrors, and a better infotainment setup. The SR adds 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, automatic climate control, and passive-entry convenience, so the S is the one most likely to feel stripped down.
- Powertrain: The Versa uses a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with either a 5-speed manual or a CVT. Output is improved over the previous version, and the CVT is described as managing power well while helping the car feel more responsive in everyday driving.
- Safety package: Standard driver-assistance features include automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams, along with a reversing camera and a full array of front- and side-impact airbags. Those features are standard across the lineup.
- Infotainment: The base car gets a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, a hands-free text-messaging assistant, and three USB ports. The SV adds NissanConnect with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus an upgraded instrument display.
- Fuel efficiency: With the manual transmission, it returns 27 mpg city, 35 highway, and 30 combined. With the CVT, it returns 32/40/35.
Which 2020 Nissan Versa trim should I buy?
The 2020 Nissan Versa is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SV, and SR.
Here's the short version:
- S: This is the least expensive way into the Versa, but it is also the most stripped-down. You still get a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, Siri Eyes Free, a hands-free text assistant, three USB ports, and standard safety tech, but the cabin and feature set are basic enough that it is hard to recommend unless price is your only priority.
- SV: This is the best-value trim. It adds alloy wheels, heated mirrors, upgraded cloth, NissanConnect with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a more useful digital instrument display, which makes it the sweet spot for most used buyers.
- SR: This is the most feature-rich version, with 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, automatic climate control, and passive entry. It makes sense if you want the most convenience and appearance upgrades, but the added cost is harder to justify than the SV.
The safety package is standard across the lineup, so you do not need to move up a trim just to get the core driver-assistance features.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Nissan Versa?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully without expecting a deep bargain everywhere.
- Deal availability: 23.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 660 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.53% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 63.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,836.32, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Nissan Versa's resale value?
The current average of $11,260 sits slightly below last year's $12,047.
That softer pricing suggests the Versa has become easier to buy than it was a year ago, which can help you as a shopper today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may be more sensitive to condition, mileage, and trim choice than to broad market momentum.
If you buy well and keep the car in strong shape, you are more likely to protect value over time. Higher-spec trims with the right features may also be easier to market later than the most basic version.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Nissan Versa safe?
It earns 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Versa comes with standard automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and automatic high beams, plus a reversing camera and front- and side-impact airbags. That gives you a strong baseline of driver assistance even on the lower trims.
The main caveat is that these systems can raise repair costs after a minor collision because of the sensors involved. If you are shopping used, that makes accident history and repair quality especially important to verify.
Should I buy a 2020 Nissan Versa or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 23.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 63.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.53% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 model stands out for its improved infotainment, better safety tech, and livelier ride.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, standard safety tech, and everyday usability, the 2020 Versa is the better path to focus on. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can still shop aggressively for a well-kept example, but you should be selective about condition and trim so you do not give up too much comfort or equipment.
