How much does the 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class cost?

Prices have softened 11.01% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 573 listings available, which gives you a meaningful amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class earns a 4.9/5 user rating, which points to very strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, impressive performance, comfort, and advanced features. The overview also frames it as a flagship luxury sedan, so it fits best if you want a polished, high-end daily driver with a strong technology focus. With 34.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to a reliable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, with praise centered on the car’s comfort and overall quality. That said, the same feedback notes high maintenance costs, so long-term ownership risk for used buyers is less about basic dependability and more about expensive upkeep.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

At 71.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report on any candidate before you get serious. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on bodywork quality, signs of previous repairs, and overall condition. Because this is a luxury sedan with potentially expensive upkeep, you should also pay close attention to maintenance records and how well the car has been cared for.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.

• Deal availability: 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 573 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.01% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 71.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $46,285, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class's resale value?

The current average of $46,285 sits slightly below last year's $52,012.

That price movement suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right entry point. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it comes time to resell. Demand should remain supported by the model’s strong owner satisfaction and flagship reputation.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2020 Mercedes-Benz S-Class or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 34.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 71.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.01% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $58,446, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $46,285 average.
• It brings a redesigned cabin and updated technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2020 is the stronger starting point because it combines a lower average price with solid owner satisfaction and a softer market. If you’re willing to pay more for the redesign and newer tech, the 2021 is the better upgrade path; price-sensitive buyers should stay focused on the 2020 and shop for a clean, well-priced example.
