Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Lincoln Aviator earns a 4.61/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise the luxurious feel, powerful performance, and spacious interior. The smooth ride and advanced features also come up often, especially the adaptive cruise control and comfortable seating.

That lines up with the Aviator’s role as a midsize, 3-row luxury SUV aimed at buyers who want comfort and upscale presentation. The main trade-offs are the automatic transmission’s shifting and a price that some shoppers see as high for the segment.

With 35.5% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator reliable?

Owners rate it 4.61/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels luxurious, comfortable, and powerful over time, with many drivers describing it as smooth and well-equipped. That kind of praise usually matters most when you want a used SUV that still feels special after the first owner has put miles on it.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes confident, hushed acceleration and a refined driving character, which supports the idea that the Aviator is built to deliver a premium ownership experience. Lincoln also includes its full driver-assistance suite as standard, which adds to everyday confidence.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability than about whether the higher-end features and complex equipment have been maintained properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Lincoln Aviator?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 79% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that checks the transmission behavior, electronics, and the condition of the cabin materials and seating. Because this is a luxury SUV, you’ll want to focus on how well the vehicle has aged rather than just whether it starts and drives.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Standard trim comes well equipped with three-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Reserve adds second-row captain’s chairs, 12-way power front seats, upgraded leather, a hands-free power liftgate, a Revel premium sound system, quad-zone climate control, a surround-view camera system, and navigation. The Standard is the best-value trim because it already includes a strong luxury feature set.
• Powertrain: The standard setup is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. The Grand Touring adds a 100-hp electric motor, battery pack, and charging port for a net 494 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque. Both use a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the plug-in hybrid setup is AWD only.
• Safety package: Lincoln Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring is also included, along with a full array of airbags, traction control, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
• Infotainment: The standard system uses a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The layout is landscape-oriented, and the vehicle also has a fully digital instrument panel.
• Fuel efficiency: The conventionally powered Aviator with RWD returns 18 mpg city, 26 highway, and 21 combined. With AWD, it returns 17 city, 24 highway, and 20 combined. The PHEV drivetrain is rated at 23 mpg combined, with a 21-mile electric-only range and 56 miles per gallon equivalent combined.

Which 2020 Lincoln Aviator trim should I buy?

The 2020 Lincoln Aviator is offered in 5 trim levels: Standard, Reserve, Grand Touring, Black Label, and Black Label Grand Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Standard: This is the best-value choice because it already includes three-zone climate control, heated front seats, leather upholstery, parking sensors, and Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you want the core luxury experience without pushing the price too high, this is the trim to target.
• Reserve: This trim adds meaningful comfort and convenience upgrades like second-row captain’s chairs, upgraded leather, a hands-free power liftgate, a Revel premium sound system, quad-zone climate control, a surround-view camera system, and navigation. It makes sense if you want a more upscale family-hauler feel.
• Grand Touring: This is the pick if you want the plug-in hybrid powertrain and the strongest performance numbers. It also bundles in much of the equipment from the lower trims, making it the most compelling choice for buyers who want power and efficiency together.
• Black Label: This is the luxury showcase trim, with nearly every feature standard, unique upholstery choices, and the upgraded seats and stereo that were optional on the test model. It suits buyers who want the most exclusive Aviator experience.
• Black Label Grand Touring: This combines the Black Label luxury treatment with the Grand Touring plug-in hybrid drivetrain. It is the top-end choice if you want maximum equipment and the electrified powertrain.

Lincoln Co-Pilot360 is standard, so you get the core safety suite even on the base trim.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Lincoln Aviator?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find value.

• Deal availability: 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 875 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.10% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 79.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $27,784, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator's resale value?

The current average of $27,784 sits slightly below last year's $31,610.

That price drop suggests the Aviator has moved into a more buyer-friendly part of its market cycle. For a future seller, that means you may not see the same pricing strength that existed a year ago, especially if the vehicle has average mileage or visible wear.

At the same time, the current range still shows meaningful demand for this model year, which helps support resale stability. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should remain easier to move than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.61/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator safe?

The 2020 Lincoln Aviator earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Lincoln Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring is also included, along with a full set of airbags, traction control, and tire pressure monitoring.

That standard equipment gives you a strong baseline of driver assistance without needing to move up the trim ladder. The main caveat is that some advanced safety features are only available as options on higher trims.

Should I buy a 2020 Lincoln Aviator or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 35.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 79% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 12.10% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.61/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It delivers a luxury-focused cabin, strong powertrain choices, and standard Co-Pilot360 safety tech.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,141, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $27,784 average.
• It adds a more modern tech-and-comfort emphasis with a premium feel.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and the feature set is already strong. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2021 is the better path for buyers who want the latest version of the Aviator’s luxury formula.
