CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Lincoln Aviator
overall

Summary
With 111 currently listed for sale near Atlanta, GA and an average price of $27,660, 29.7% of 2020 Lincoln Aviators for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Lincoln Aviator 4.61 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
97.3% of 2020 Aviator models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Lincoln Aviator stands out as Lincoln’s return to a more focused luxury identity, with a stylish design and a comfortable cabin that aim to make it feel like a true premium SUV. It is a midsize, 3-row luxury SUV, and Lincoln positions it as a fresh, all-new entry built on the contemporary Explorer platform rather than a simple badge exercise. That combination gives it a distinctive place in the lineup: it is meant to be a luxury vehicle in its own right, not just a familiar utility vehicle with upscale trim.
Its appeal is strengthened by multiple powertrain options, which broaden its reach for buyers who want both luxury and flexibility. The Aviator also promises a smooth ride and advanced features, and owners frequently praise its luxurious feel, powerful performance, spacious interior, adaptive cruise control, and comfortable seating. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: the ergonomic design is a weak point, the third row is cramped, and some drivers are unhappy with the automatic transmission’s shifting.

Great features. This is the highest level trim. Doing some research the reliability for 2020 Aviators is low. It appears that was the first year the car was sold. Decided to pursue a 2021 model.

We were delighted with the purchase of the Lincoln Aviator. We enjoy the large sunroof, seating for seven (heated and cooled seats in second row), and the adaptive cruise control. The vehicle helps steer itself and adjusts speeds not only when coming up on other vehicles, but changes the speed when speed limits change. Very comfortable ride and is very responsive with the twin turbo engine. It is a well designed vehicle!

How much does the 2020 Lincoln Aviator cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $28,106 |
| Year-Round Low | $28,106 |
| Year-Round High | $31,902 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $31,897 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −11.88% |
Prices have softened 11.88% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 880 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.
Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Lincoln Aviator earns a 4.61/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Technology, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, powerful performance, and spacious interior. They also highlight the smooth ride, advanced features, adaptive cruise control, and comfortable seating.
The trade-offs are familiar: the ergonomic design is a weak point, and some drivers are unhappy with the automatic transmission’s shifting.
For you, that means the Aviator makes the most sense if you want a midsize, 3-row luxury SUV that leans into comfort and premium presentation rather than sharp utility. 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator reliable?
Owners rate it 4.61/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a vehicle that feels luxurious, powerful, and comfortable over time, with owners repeatedly calling out the smooth ride and advanced features. That kind of recurring praise usually matters more than a one-time impression when you’re evaluating used ownership.
The driving experience is described as smooth and confident, which supports the sense that it’s built to be easy to live with. Lincoln also includes a full complement of driver-assistance systems, which can help reduce day-to-day stress.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that comfort-focused luxury SUVs can become expensive to keep satisfying if prior maintenance or condition has been neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Lincoln Aviator?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin, electronics, and drivetrain behavior, since luxury features and smooth operation are a big part of this model’s appeal.
Pay close attention to overall condition, because the Aviator’s value proposition depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and equipped.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Standard trim comes with three-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, heated front seats, Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a WiFi hotspot, four USB ports, and satellite radio. The Reserve adds second-row captain's chairs, 12-way power front seats, upgraded leather, a hands-free power liftgate, a Revel premium sound system, quad-zone climate control, a surround-view camera system, and navigation. The Grand Touring adds the plug-in hybrid drivetrain and many of the higher-end features, while the Black Label makes the upgraded seats and stereo standard and adds unique upholstery choices.
- Powertrain: The standard setup is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. The Grand Touring combines that engine with a 100-hp electric motor, battery pack, and charging port for 494 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque. Both use a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the plug-in hybrid setup is the more efficient, quieter-feeling option.
- Safety package: Lincoln Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring is also included. Some additional driver-assistance features are optional on the Reserve, so check equipment carefully if those matter to you.
- Infotainment: The Aviator uses a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Sync 3, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The layout is landscape-oriented, and the system also includes a fully digital instrument panel. A head-up display is available on higher-spec versions.
- Fuel efficiency: The conventionally powered Aviator with RWD returns 18 mpg city, 26 highway, 21 combined. With AWD, it drops to 17 mpg city, 24 highway, 20 combined. The plug-in hybrid returns 23 mpg combined, plus a 21-mile electric-only range and 56 miles-per-gallon equivalent combined.
Which 2020 Lincoln Aviator trim should I buy?
The 2020 Lincoln Aviator is offered in 5 trim levels: Standard, Reserve, Grand Touring, Black Label, and Black Label Grand Touring.
Here's the short version:
- Standard: This is the best-value trim because it already brings a strong luxury feature set, including leather upholstery, heated front seats, three-zone climate control, parking sensors, and Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you want the core Aviator experience without pushing deep into the price range, this is the one to start with.
- Reserve: This trim adds second-row captain's chairs, upgraded leather, a hands-free power liftgate, a Revel premium sound system, quad-zone climate control, a surround-view camera system, and navigation. It makes sense if you want a more upscale family setup and more convenience features.
- Grand Touring: This is the plug-in hybrid choice, and it layers in the high-output electrified drivetrain along with many of the nicer features from the lower trims. It suits you best if you want the strongest performance and a more advanced powertrain.
- Black Label: This is the luxury showcase trim, with nearly every feature you can get as standard equipment, plus unique upholstery choices and the upgraded seats and stereo. It’s for buyers who want the most premium cabin presentation.
- Black Label Grand Touring: This combines the Black Label treatment with the plug-in hybrid drivetrain, making it the most fully loaded version of the Aviator.
The safety suite is standard across the lineup, but some additional driver-assistance features are optional on the Reserve.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Lincoln Aviator?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 880 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.88% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 80.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $28,106, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator's resale value?
The current average of $28,106 sits slightly below last year's $31,897.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price, you reduce the chance of taking a big depreciation hit later.
The Aviator’s premium positioning and strong owner satisfaction should help support demand, especially for well-kept examples with desirable equipment. Still, resale will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.61/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator safe?
The 2020 Lincoln Aviator earns 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Lincoln Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring is also included, and the head-up display adds another layer of useful driver information.
That said, you should still verify which features are present on the specific trim you’re considering, since some additional driver-assistance equipment is optional on the Reserve. For a used purchase, the safest move is to confirm the exact equipment list rather than assuming every example is identical.
Should I buy a 2020 Lincoln Aviator or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 35.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 80.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.88% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.61/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It marks Lincoln’s return to a more focused luxury identity with an all-new, three-row midsize SUV.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $30,601, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $28,106 average.
- It adds modern technology, potent drivetrain options, and a cabin with more creature comforts.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and inventory is still healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer example, the 2021 is the path to consider for buyers who prioritize the latest version of the Aviator’s comfort-and-technology formula.
