CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Honda Passport
overall

Summary
With 44 currently listed for sale near Phoenix, AZ and an average price of $25,950.00, 22.7% of 2020 Honda Passports for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Honda Passport 4.45 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.83 / 10.
86.4% of 2020 Passport models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Honda Passport stands out as a rugged, two-row crossover that brings a more upmarket take on Honda SUV transportation. It is described as being just as comfortable on the road as it is on the trail, which gives it a broad appeal for buyers who want everyday usability without giving up off-road capability. Its thoughtful interior functionality adds to that practicality, while its stylish design and comfortable ride help it feel more polished than a purely utilitarian SUV.
For 2020, the Passport carries over unchanged, so its appeal is rooted in the same formula rather than a fresh round of updates. That makes it a straightforward choice for shoppers who value comfort and versatility, but it also means there is no new equipment story to lean on for this model year. The main drawback noted is poor fuel economy, which is worth considering for buyers who prioritize efficiency.

I’m a car guy first and a Honda fan boy second. I’m currently in need of a newish vehicle so I can Uber. I have 2 Honda already a 2005 CRV and a 2006 Element. Both are great cars but have aged out of Ubers guidelines so a Passport may be in my future. The size of the Passport is great it holds 5 passengers comfortably and lots of room for luggage in the back. The height of the vehicle is comfortable to get in and out. During the test drive the engine was strong but the 9 speed transmission was a little laggy but did get the job done once it woke up. This is a known issue that Honda addressed with the newer 10 speed transmission update. My other nit pick is the infotainment system is little dated. The Kia Sorento of the same year has a way better display and GUI. Those 2 gripes aside I do think there will be a Honda Passport in my driveway this week.

I love this car! It is definitely a great value. Even the basic trim package has great features. It is pretty much the same as the Honda pilot but without the third row. Its incredibly roomy, so comfortable, and drives smoother than any other suv I drove.

I test drove an Elite and it has a smooth ride, nice features and user friendly too. I am not sure it is worth the value now with the car prices being inflated due to the chip shortage but if it were a few thousand less, then yes definitely worth the value. I was impressed with the quality of the interior and space. The engine is a little loud when you hut the gas but other than that great suv.

How much does the 2020 Honda Passport cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,504 |
| Year-Round Low | $22,366.26 |
| Year-Round High | $24,337.74 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $24,314 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.45% |
Prices have softened 7.45% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 875 listings available, which suggests you should have some room to compare prices and condition.
If you find a listing below $22,366.26, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Honda Passport a good car?
Generally — the 2020 Honda Passport earns 4.45/5 from owners and 8.83/10 from our experts. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.
Drivers consistently praise its comfort, spaciousness, and smooth ride, and many also like the strong V6 engine and the cargo-hauling utility. The Passport’s broad appeal comes through in its everyday usability and its more rugged, trail-friendly character. On the downside, some owners mention electrical issues, an infotainment system that feels outdated, and a wish for more features in base models.
It fits you well if you want a two-row SUV that feels polished enough for daily driving but still has a more adventurous edge. With 29.0% of listings rated as good or great deals, there’s also a decent amount of market flexibility if you shop carefully.
Is the 2020 Honda Passport reliable?
Owners rate it 4.45/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. Drivers’ feedback points to a vehicle they feel comfortable living with over time, especially when it comes to comfort, space, and everyday usability.
The owner summary also highlights a strong V6 and a generally dependable-feeling ownership experience, though some buyers have flagged electrical concerns. The expert evaluation reinforces that sense of durability by describing the Passport as practical and capable, with a powertrain and chassis setup that hold up well in varied driving situations.
If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is that electrical or infotainment issues could become your biggest headaches, so a thorough test of all systems matters.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Honda Passport?
At 72.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the electronics and infotainment system work as expected. Because some owners mention electrical concerns, it’s smart to test every feature yourself before you commit.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Passport comes in Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Elite. The base trim is the most stripped-down, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience features, and the Elite is the most fully equipped. Lower trims can also be paired with packages such as Urban and Adventure, which add items like crossbars, underbody spoilers, and running boards.
- Powertrain: Every Passport uses a 3.5-liter V6 with a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the lower trims, all-wheel drive is available, and the model is tuned for a balance of smooth road manners and trail capability. Fuel economy is a weak point, especially with all-wheel drive.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing is standard and includes Collision Mitigation Braking System with forward-collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and a rearview camera with a birds-eye view. Higher trims add dynamic gridlines for the rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic detection.
- Infotainment: The base Sport uses a 5.0-inch display, while EX-L, Touring, and Elite get an 8.0-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are wired, and higher trims can add a 10-speaker audio system, satellite radio, extra USB ports, a wireless phone charger, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
- Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive models are rated at 20 mpg city, 25 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. All-wheel-drive models are rated at 19 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined.
Which 2020 Honda Passport trim should I buy?
The 2020 Honda Passport is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, EX-L, Touring, and Elite.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the value-focused starting point, but it’s also the most basic version, with the smaller 5.0-inch display and fewer convenience features. It makes sense if you want the Passport’s core space, V6 power, and safety tech at the lowest entry price.
- EX-L: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the larger 8.0-inch touchscreen and a more upscale feel without jumping all the way to the top of the range. If you want a better daily experience without paying for luxury-level extras, this is the trim to target.
- Touring: This trim is the step up if you want more convenience and tech, and it’s also the point where additional safety and navigation features become available for an extra fee. It suits you if you want a more fully equipped Passport but don’t need the Elite’s full feature set.
- Elite: This is the most luxurious version, with heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear outboard seats, a leather-trimmed heated steering wheel, a 10-way power driver’s seat with memory, and a moonroof. It’s the right pick if you want the most comfort and equipment in one package.
Honda Sensing is standard, while higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic detection.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Honda Passport?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 875 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.45% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 72.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,366.26, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Honda Passport's resale value?
The current average of $22,504 sits slightly below last year's $24,314.
That softer pricing suggests the Passport has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you purchase near the lower end of the range, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell. Demand should also stay supported by the model’s strong owner satisfaction and broad usefulness.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Honda Passport safe?
The 2020 Honda Passport achieved good scores from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and it was named an IIHS Top Safety Pick.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is standard, and it includes Collision Mitigation Braking System with forward-collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and a rearview camera with a birds-eye view. Higher trims add dynamic gridlines for the rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and rear cross-traffic detection.
The main caveat is that the Passport lacks some of the fancier driver-assist technology found in some rivals, so higher trims are worth a closer look if safety tech is a priority.
Should I buy a 2020 Honda Passport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 72.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.45% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- It offers a rugged, two-row crossover with strong off-road capability and thoughtful interior functionality.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $20,861, the 2019 costs less than the current year's $22,504 average.
- It’s a simple, family-friendly two-row SUV with lots of space and high ground clearance.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $24,809, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $22,504 average.
- It adds some extra features while keeping the Passport’s adventurous, daily-driver character.
The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, comfort, and capability, the 2020 is the primary year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2019 is the smarter value play, while the 2021 makes sense if you want to spend more for a slightly newer version with added features.
