CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Dodge Durango
overall

Summary
With 351 currently listed for sale near Trenton, NJ and an average price of $19,903.00, 27.6% of 2020 Dodge Durangos for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Dodge Durango 4.56 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2020 Dodge Durango stands out by blending three-row SUV practicality with Dodge’s muscle-car personality. Even though it is a seven-passenger family hauler, it wears eye-catching styling cues and is offered in a number of high-horsepower trims that match the look. That combination gives it a distinctive place in the segment, especially for buyers who want something more performance-oriented than a typical family SUV.
It also brings several practical strengths to the table. The Durango offers multiple powertrain options, easy-to-use technology, and a spacious cabin, which helps it appeal to shoppers who need room without giving up character. At the same time, it is described as showing signs of aging and feeling a bit dated compared with segment leaders, and its usability is said to trail vehicles like the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, and Kia Telluride. Advanced safety features are not standard, and its styling is also called uninspired in one assessment, so the Durango’s appeal depends on whether buyers value its performance-focused identity more than maximum modern polish.

Like the overall design and look of this vehicle, it has a stylish appearance. The exterior is very attractive and clean, the interior is just as impressive. Although I’ve never actually seen it in person I’ve seen other versions (different colors), very sleek. Exceptional quality for the mileage. It could be a little less expensive, but the way everything is more expensive today it seems like a deal.

Not a good value car is missing middle console and parts are hanging. And the inside panels looks like it might him been submerged in water!!

Initially, looked good from the outside. Inside and test drive was a different story. Formerly a police vehicle. Rear seats didn't fold, had steel frame for the cage still installed. Back storage area floor is all steel. Took it for a short test drive and the front end shook like crazy. No thanks.

Great all around vehicle. Can tow pretty much any small to medium sized car, hauls anything you can imagine once you fold the 2nd and 3rd row seats down, including a full sized treadmill! Comfortable family vehicle that gets good mileage for its size with the cylinder deactivation feature.

Is the 2020 Dodge Durango a good car?
Yes — with a 4.56/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating, the 2020 Dodge Durango lands as a strong choice if you want a three-row SUV with personality. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.

Owners rate it 4.56/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Drivers describe it as spacious, comfortable, smooth, and capable, with towing and performance standing out as reasons they feel good about living with it over time. That kind of feedback points to a vehicle many owners can count on for everyday use and family duty.
The expert assessment also emphasizes that the Durango is practical enough for seven-passenger use while still delivering strong powertrain choices. It is described as a vehicle that balances utility with character rather than feeling purely compromised.
If you buy used, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific example has been maintained well, since age and equipment complexity can matter more than the ownership experience itself.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Dodge Durango?
At 69.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-trim or higher-mileage example. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the equipment level matches the asking price.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SXT comes with 18-inch wheels, three-zone climate control, manually adjustable front seats, a 7-inch digital instrument panel screen, dual USB ports, a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a six-speaker stereo. The GT adds 20-inch wheels, a sport-inspired grille, remote start, LED fog lights, dual exhaust, a power rear liftgate, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, and satellite radio. The R/T adds rain-sensing wipers, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger’s seat, memory settings for the driver’s seat and power-adjustable tilt-telescoping steering wheel, leather-and-suede upholstery, heated front seats, heated rear seats, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Citadel adds unique chrome exterior touches, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, a power moonroof, second-row captains chairs with a center console, and premium leather upholstery. The SRT adds a more aggressive lower front fascia, auto-leveling headlights, 20-inch black wheels, ventilated front seats, unique leather-and-suede seats with an embossed SRT logo, and available red leather performance seats.
- Powertrain: The SXT, GT, and Citadel use a 3.6-liter V6 with 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The R/T uses a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with 360 hp and 390 lb-ft, and the SRT uses a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. All engines pair with an 8-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive depending on trim.
- Safety package: The Durango does not come standard with high-tech driver-assistance features. The Technology Group package adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision avoidance, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-path detection are also available, but these features are optional rather than standard.
- Infotainment: The SXT and GT use a 7-inch touchscreen, while an 8.4-inch touchscreen is optional on the GT and standard on all other trims. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. R/T, Citadel, and SRT trims add navigation and SiriusXM Travel Link with real-time traffic and weather updates.
- Fuel efficiency: The base V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 19 mpg city, 26 highway, 21 combined. With all-wheel drive, it returns 18/25/21 combined. The 5.7-liter V8 returns 14/22/17, and the SRT returns 13/19/15.
Which 2020 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?
The 2020 Dodge Durango is offered in 5 trim levels: SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T, and SRT.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Durango experience with the 7-inch touchscreen, three-zone climate control, and the standard V6. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the lineup and do not need the extra convenience or luxury features found higher up.
- GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more polished look, remote start, LED fog lights, a power rear liftgate, and an 8-way power driver’s seat without jumping into V8 pricing. If you want a well-equipped daily driver, this is the trim to target first.
- Citadel: This is the comfort-focused choice, with chrome accents, polished wheels, a power moonroof, second-row captains chairs, and premium leather. It suits you if you want a more upscale family SUV and are willing to pay for it.
- R/T: This is the right pick if you want the stronger 5.7-liter V8 and a more performance-leaning feel, plus heated seats, memory settings, and the larger 8.4-inch touchscreen. It is the trim to choose if acceleration matters as much as comfort.
- SRT: This is the enthusiast model, with the 6.4-liter V8, performance-tuned suspension, Brembo brakes, and the most aggressive styling. It is the one to buy if you want the Durango at its most muscular and do not mind the higher fuel use.
The Technology Group package is worth seeking out because the Durango’s advanced driver-assistance features are otherwise optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Dodge Durango?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,347 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.52% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,382.31, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Dodge Durango's resale value?
The current average of $21,379 sits slightly below last year's $23,629.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means resale value may depend more on condition, trim desirability, and equipment than on broad market momentum.
Because the Durango has a distinct personality and strong enthusiast appeal, better-equipped examples can hold attention better than plain ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Dodge Durango safe?
The Durango earns a four-star rating from NHTSA and a Good result in most IIHS crash tests, though IIHS rated driver’s side small-front overlap testing as Moderate.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The Durango comes with a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and trailer sway control. Rear parking sensors are available on the SXT and standard on all other trims, while the R/T, Citadel, and SRT add front- and rear parking sensors.
The main safety caveat is that high-tech driver-assistance features are not standard. The Technology Group package adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision avoidance, and lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring plus rear cross-path detection are also optional.
Should I buy a 2020 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 30.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.52% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It balances three-row practicality with muscle-car styling and high-horsepower trim options.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $27,400, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $21,379 average.
- It adds the new SRT Hellcat and Tow N Go Package.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and inventory is broad. If you are willing to pay more for the newer-year upgrades and stronger performance headline, the 2021 is the path to consider.
