CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Dodge Durango
overall

Summary
With 342 currently listed for sale near Trenton, NJ and an average price of $20,550.00, 27.5% of 2020 Dodge Durangos for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Dodge Durango 4.56 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
69.3% of 2020 Durango models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Dodge Durango stands out by blending three-row SUV practicality with Dodge’s muscle-car personality. Even though it is a seven-passenger family hauler, it wears eye-catching styling cues and is offered in a number of high-horsepower trims that match the look. That combination gives it a distinctive place in the segment, especially for buyers who want something more performance-oriented than a typical family SUV.
It also brings several practical strengths to the table. The Durango offers multiple powertrain options, easy-to-use technology, and a spacious cabin, which helps it appeal to shoppers who need room without giving up character. At the same time, it is described as showing signs of aging and feeling a bit dated compared with segment leaders, and its usability is said to trail vehicles like the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, and Kia Telluride. Advanced safety features are not standard, and its styling is also called uninspired in one assessment, so the Durango’s appeal depends on whether buyers value its performance-focused identity more than maximum modern polish.

Like the overall design and look of this vehicle, it has a stylish appearance. The exterior is very attractive and clean, the interior is just as impressive. Although I’ve never actually seen it in person I’ve seen other versions (different colors), very sleek. Exceptional quality for the mileage. It could be a little less expensive, but the way everything is more expensive today it seems like a deal.

Not a good value car is missing middle console and parts are hanging. And the inside panels looks like it might him been submerged in water!!

Initially, looked good from the outside. Inside and test drive was a different story. Formerly a police vehicle. Rear seats didn't fold, had steel frame for the cage still installed. Back storage area floor is all steel. Took it for a short test drive and the front end shook like crazy. No thanks.

Great all around vehicle. Can tow pretty much any small to medium sized car, hauls anything you can imagine once you fold the 2nd and 3rd row seats down, including a full sized treadmill! Comfortable family vehicle that gets good mileage for its size with the cylinder deactivation feature.

How much does the 2020 Dodge Durango cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $21,476 |
| Year-Round Low | $21,468.26 |
| Year-Round High | $23,635.28 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $23,599 |

Prices have softened 8.99% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 2,323 listings available, you have a solid amount of inventory to compare across trims and conditions.
If you find a listing below $21,468.26, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2020 Dodge Durango a good car?
Yes — the 2020 Dodge Durango earns a 4.56/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise the spacious interior, comfort, and smooth driving experience. The user feedback also highlights towing capacity and performance, which fits a family SUV that still wants to feel engaging. In practical terms, that lines up well with the Durango’s seven-passenger layout and its appeal to buyers who want room without giving up character.
The trade-offs are that it can feel dated and less polished than newer rivals, and its usability trails some segment leaders. That makes it a better fit if you value personality, powertrain variety, and space more than the latest cabin design.
With 27.3% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Dodge Durango reliable?
Owners rate it 4.56/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with praise centered on comfort, smooth driving, and family-friendly practicality. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on it for regular ownership duties if the example you buy has been cared for properly.
The expert assessment also emphasizes that the Durango’s strengths include multiple powertrain options and a spacious cabin, which supports its long-term usefulness. On the cost side, the base V6 is the most efficient version, and the model’s broad trim and engine range gives you flexibility to choose the setup that best matches your needs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a more complex, higher-mileage example may carry more wear, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Dodge Durango?
At 71.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important on higher-trim or higher-performance examples, since equipment and wear can vary a lot. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific listing.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SXT comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, manually adjustable front seats, and a six-speaker stereo, while the GT adds 20-inch wheels, remote start, LED fog lights, dual exhaust, and a power rear liftgate. The R/T adds leather-and-suede upholstery, heated front and rear seats, memory settings, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen, while the Citadel adds chrome accents, a power moonroof, second-row captain’s chairs, and premium leather. The SRT is the most aggressive and performance-focused, with ventilated front seats, unique leather-and-suede seats, and performance-oriented styling.
- Powertrain: The SXT, GT, and Citadel use a 3.6-liter V6 with 293 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The R/T uses a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 with 360 hp and 390 lb-ft, and the SRT uses a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. All engines pair with an 8-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive.
- Safety package: The Technology Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision avoidance, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-path detection are also available, but these features are not standard.
- Infotainment: The SXT and GT use a 7-inch touchscreen, while an 8.4-inch touchscreen is standard on the other trims and optional on the GT. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, and navigation plus SiriusXM Travel Link are included on the R/T, Citadel, and SRT.
- Fuel efficiency: The base V6 with rear-wheel drive returns 19 mpg city, 26 highway, and 21 combined. With all-wheel drive, it returns 18/25/21. The 5.7-liter V8 returns 14/22/17, and the SRT returns 13/19/15.
Which 2020 Dodge Durango trim should I buy?
The 2020 Dodge Durango is offered in 5 trim levels: SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T, and SRT.
Here's the short version:
- SXT: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Durango’s core strengths: three-row space, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a straightforward cabin. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without the extra convenience and luxury features found higher up.
- GT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more polished look and useful upgrades like remote start, LED fog lights, a power rear liftgate, and an 8-way power driver’s seat. If you want a balanced mix of equipment and price, this is the trim to focus on first.
- Citadel: This is the comfort-leaning choice, with premium leather, a power moonroof, second-row captain’s chairs, and a more upscale appearance. It suits you if you want the Durango to feel closer to a near-luxury SUV.
- R/T: This is the right pick if you want the V8 experience without going all the way to the top. It adds the 5.7-liter Hemi, heated seats, memory settings, and navigation, making it the sweet spot for buyers who want stronger performance and a richer feature set.
- SRT: This is the performance flagship, with the 6.4-liter Hemi, performance-tuned suspension, Brembo brakes, and SRT performance pages. Choose it if you want the most aggressive Durango and care more about speed and handling than fuel economy.
The Technology Group is worth prioritizing if you want adaptive cruise control, forward-collision avoidance, and lane-departure warning, since those features are not standard.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Dodge Durango?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,323 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.99% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 71.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,468.26, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Dodge Durango's resale value?
The current average of $21,476 sits slightly below last year's $23,599.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at a strong price and keep the vehicle in good condition, you may be better positioned than someone who pays near the top of the range. Trim choice and condition will matter a lot, especially because higher-spec versions can be more expensive to own and may appeal to a narrower pool of future buyers.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.56/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Dodge Durango safe?
The Durango earns a four-star overall rating from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side crash testing and four-star ratings in all other phases. It also earned a score of Good in all IIHS crash tests except driver’s side small-front overlap testing, where it earned Moderate.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
The Durango comes with a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and trailer sway control. Rear parking sensors are available on the SXT and standard on all other trims, while the R/T, Citadel, and SRT add front- and rear parking sensors.
The main caveat is that advanced driver-assistance features are not standard. The Technology Group adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision avoidance, and lane-departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring plus rear cross-path detection are also available, but they remain optional. That means you should pay close attention to whether a used example has the safety package you want.
Should I buy a 2020 Dodge Durango or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 71.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Prices have softened 8.99% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.56/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It balances three-row utility with muscle-car styling and multiple high-horsepower trims.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $27,529, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $21,476 average.
- It adds the new SRT Hellcat variant.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because prices are lower and inventory is healthy. If you want the newest performance headline and are willing to pay more, the 2021 is the better path.
