Why it stands out
The 2020 BMW M2 stands out as a compact rear-wheel-drive sports coupe that was built around enthusiast appeal. It traces its roots to BMW’s M tradition, with a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, a standard six-speed manual transmission or optional seven-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission, and a chassis tuned for excellent handling and roadholding. BMW also gave it big brakes, 19-inch wheels with sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, a rear-lip spoiler, quad exhaust tips, upgraded front seats, and carbon fiber trim, all of which reinforce its performance-first character.
For 2020, BMW built a limited-edition M2 CS with 444 hp, M Adaptive suspension, and optional carbon ceramic brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Carbon fiber exterior components reduced the CS model’s weight and increased performance. That makes the 2020 M2 especially appealing to buyers who want a small, engaging coupe with serious capability and a more focused, track-oriented variant in the lineup.
There are tradeoffs, though. The M2’s ride can be stiff in normal driving, and getting in and out takes a bit of effort. Even so, its combination of power, rear-wheel-drive balance, and everyday usability is what makes it distinctive.

Aside from the aftermarket spoiler that was put on this car (just not my taste), the M2 was made for people who love to drive. Even without the manual gearbox, it checks almost every other box youd want in a great driving experience. Steering lacks a little bit of feel, but other than that its hard to beat the throttle response and sonorous music coming from under the hood.

The 2020 M2 Competition replaces my 2017 M2 that was totaled. Love the S55 power, and I have always loved the M-DCT; its so much fun to drive!

| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $58,165 |
| Year-Round Low | $54,992 |
| Year-Round High | $67,178 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $65,056 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.59% |
Prices have softened 10.59% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 90 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2020 BMW M2 a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. The 2020 BMW M2 is described as a compact rear-wheel-drive sports coupe built around enthusiast appeal, with a turbocharged inline-six, a manual transmission option, and a chassis tuned for excellent handling and roadholding. It also brings performance-focused hardware and, in M2 CS form, an even more track-oriented setup for buyers who want a sharper edge.
That makes it a strong fit if you want a small, engaging coupe that still works as a daily driver. 41.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop strategically.
Is the 2020 BMW M2 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
BMW describes the 2020 M2 as a performance-first coupe with a chassis tuned for excellent handling and roadholding, and that focus suggests the car is built to deliver a consistent driving experience. The tradeoff for used buyers is that a hard-driven sports coupe can carry more long-term ownership risk, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW M2?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a pre-purchase inspection that checks for signs of hard use, curb rash, and wear on performance components. Because this is an enthusiast-oriented coupe, pay close attention to overall condition, especially anything that suggests track use or deferred maintenance.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW M2?
This looks like a buyer-friendly market, with softer pricing and a decent share of discounted listings.
- Deal availability: 41.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 90 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.59% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 78.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $54,992, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 BMW M2's resale value?
The current average of $58,165 sits slightly below last year's $65,056.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper near-term resale upside if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the key is buying well and keeping the car in strong condition, because a lower entry price can help preserve your margin later. Enthusiast demand can still support values when the car is clean, well maintained, and properly documented.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 BMW M2 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 41.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.59% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- It leans even more into a focused, lightweight, street-fighter personality.
The bottom line: You should start with the 2020 if you want the better value play right now, especially given the softer pricing and decent deal availability. If you are more price-sensitive, keep the 2020 at the top of your list and compare carefully against nearby years only when the condition, history, and asking price clearly justify the move.
