Why it stands out
The 2020 BMW M2 stands out as a compact rear-wheel-drive sports coupe that was built to prioritize driving enjoyment. It uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine tuned to deliver 405 hp and 406 lb-ft, and BMW paired that power with a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional seven-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission. The result is a car that was properly quick, with a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds with the manual or 4.1 seconds with the DCT, while still keeping the kind of enthusiast-focused character that made the M2 appealing in the first place.
BMW also gave the 2020 M2 the hardware expected of an M model. It came with big brakes, 19-inch wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, a wider body, a rear-lip spoiler, quad exhaust tips, upgraded front seats, and carbon fiber trim. The chassis was stiffened for 2019, the suspension and electronic driver aids were retuned, and the brakes were upsized, all of which helped sharpen the car’s handling and roadholding. For 2020, BMW built a limited-edition M2 CS with 444 hp, M Adaptive suspension, and optional carbon ceramic brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, which pushed the formula even further.
The 2020 model also had some useful everyday features, including BMW’s Driving Assistant safety suite with forward-collision warning, pedestrian warning with a city braking function, and lane-departure warning. On the downside, the ride could be stiff, and the car’s sporty setup was aimed more at enthusiasts than comfort-first buyers. Still, for shoppers who want a small coupe with strong performance, rear-wheel-drive balance, and a distinctly M-flavored personality, the 2020 BMW M2 is an appealing choice.

Aside from the aftermarket spoiler that was put on this car (just not my taste), the M2 was made for people who love to drive. Even without the manual gearbox, it checks almost every other box youd want in a great driving experience. Steering lacks a little bit of feel, but other than that its hard to beat the throttle response and sonorous music coming from under the hood.

How much does the 2020 BMW M2 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $53,753 |
| Year-Round Low | $53,567 |
| Year-Round High | $65,393 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $64,937 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −17.22% |
Prices have softened 17.22% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 82 listings available, which gives you a modest but workable pool to compare.
Is the 2020 BMW M2 a good car?
Yes — the 2020 BMW M2 earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. The overview shows a compact rear-wheel-drive sports coupe built around driving enjoyment, with a turbocharged inline-six, a manual transmission option, and a chassis tuned for sharp handling. It also has useful everyday features like BMW’s Driving Assistant suite, so you get performance focus without giving up all practicality. With 40.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive price.
Is the 2020 BMW M2 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The overview also points to a well-developed performance package with upgraded brakes, a stiffened chassis, and retuned suspension and driver aids, which suggests a car engineered with serious intent. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a performance coupe like this can be less forgiving if it has been driven hard or maintained inconsistently.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW M2?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a pre-purchase inspection from a shop that knows performance cars. Pay close attention to signs of hard use, uneven wear, and the condition of the brakes, tires, and suspension, since this model was built to be driven enthusiastically. If possible, look for evidence of regular maintenance and consistent care rather than just low mileage.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW M2?
Yes — this looks like a buyer-friendly moment if you’re shopping carefully.
- Deal availability: 40.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 82 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 17.22% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 76.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $53,567, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 BMW M2's resale value?
The current average of $53,753 sits slightly below last year's $64,937.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. If demand stays steady, a well-kept example should remain appealing to enthusiasts who want a compact, rear-wheel-drive performance coupe. Strong condition and documented maintenance matter a lot here, because buyers in this segment tend to pay more for cars that look cared for.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 BMW M2 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 40.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 17.22% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- It adds a more track-tested, driver-focused character with clear tradeoffs in comfort and practicality.
The bottom line: You should start with the 2020 if you want the strongest mix of price softness, available inventory, and enthusiast appeal. If you’re more price-sensitive, keep the 2020 on your shortlist and compare it carefully against the 2021 only if the newer car’s condition or equipment justifies the premium.
