The four-seat Aston Martin DBS Superleggera stands at the top of the British brand’s grand-touring line. Fundamentally, it’s a DB11 with sharper edges. This year brings a new convertible body style to sit alongside the existing coupe. The convertible, which tacks the Volante moniker onto its nameplate, replaces the coupe’s sleek color-contrasting roof with an elegant cloth top that incorporates eight layers of insulation material. It is otherwise identical to the coupe, with the same muscular body, prominent airflow details, and sinister black exterior appointments. Every DBS Superleggera houses one of Aston Martin’s hand-built twin-turbocharged 5.2-liter V12 engines with an 8-speed automatic transmission. You won’t find any fancy all-wheel drive (AWD) systems here; the DBS Superleggera’s 725 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque go directly to the rear wheels, courtesy of a carbon-fiber driveshaft. That said, adaptive dampers, a driving-mode selector, and a limited-slip rear differential all come standard. The coupe rockets to 62 miles per hour in just 3.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 211 mph, while the Volante gets to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds and matches that top speed. The DBS Superleggera comes packed with all the features you’d expect, including 21-inch wheels, keyless access and entry, navigation, WiFi hotspot capability, sport-design seats, a sport-design steering wheel, leather-and-Alcantara upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, and a digital instrument cluster. Aston Martin then lets you customize the DBS Superleggera to your heart’s content, including several Designer Specification packages. On the safety front, Aston Martin gives you a 360-degree camera, parking sensors, and a parking assistant. The DBS Superleggera effortlessly blends grand touring and performance. The new Volante convertible model takes that mission even further.
