Used 2019 Volvo XC40 for Sale nearPhiladelphia, PA

How much does the 2019 Volvo XC40 cost?

Prices have softened 11.68% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 291 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2019 Volvo XC40 a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Volvo XC40 earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Form and function.

You get a premium-feeling small SUV with standout styling, a luxurious cabin, and strong everyday usefulness. Owner feedback repeatedly points to its excellent safety features, ample power, and upscale feel, while the overview also highlights ingenious cargo solutions and advanced technology.

The trade-offs are worth weighing: the transmission can be irritating, visibility is poor, and the touchscreen-heavy interface can feel complicated. Even so, the XC40 fits you well if you want a subcompact SUV that feels more premium than its size and price suggest.

With 39.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2019 Volvo XC40 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback also points to a reliable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers emphasizing that they feel good about the XC40’s safety, power, and upscale character over the long term. The expert drive notes reinforce that sense of dependability by describing the XC40 as a standout vehicle with a tremendous amount of car for the price.

Volvo also leans into ownership convenience with its subscription-style Care by Volvo approach, which can simplify the process if you prefer that model. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that the XC40’s complicated controls and transmission quirks may be more annoying than mechanically reassuring if the vehicle hasn’t been maintained carefully.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Volvo XC40?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 78% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the transmission behavior, rear visibility, and overall condition of the cabin tech, since those are the areas most likely to affect your day-to-day experience.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Momentum is technically the base trim, but it comes well equipped with 18-inch wheels, integrated bright aluminum roof rails, LED signature headlights, a leather steering wheel and shift knob, power windows and doors, and the large 9-inch Sensus touchscreen. The R-Design adds a unique front grille, contrasting black roof, integrated dual tailpipes, a sport steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, a charcoal headliner, and ambient interior lighting. The Inscription adds unique badging, a panoramic sunroof, driftwood door inlays, and an Orrefors crystal gearshift knob.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine with 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, paired with standard all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic. The drive modes include Comfort, Eco, Dynamic, Off-Road, and Individual, and the setup is tuned for brisk acceleration and responsive turn-in.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a full array of airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, a whiplash protection system, road-sign information updates, a rear-collision warning system, and City Safe automatic braking that can detect cars, pedestrians, and large animals. The Vision Package adds blind-spot detection, cross-traffic alert, and Pilot Assist with adaptive cruise control. The Advanced Package adds a 360-degree camera, LED foglights with a cornering function, and automatically bending headlights.
• Infotainment: The XC40 uses a large 9-inch Sensus touchscreen in portrait orientation. Standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto work seamlessly, and the system supports over-the-air-style convenience through its integrated screen-based controls, though many functions are routed through the display rather than physical buttons.
• Fuel efficiency: The XC40 is rated at 23 mpg city, 31 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined.

Which 2019 Volvo XC40 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Volvo XC40 is offered in 3 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the best-value choice if you want the XC40’s core appeal without stretching the budget. It already brings the 9-inch touchscreen, LED signature headlights, roof rails, and a well-equipped cabin, so you get the premium Volvo feel right away.
• R-Design: Choose this if you want a sportier look and a more tailored interior. The unique grille, black roof, dual tailpipes, sport steering wheel, and ambient lighting make it the most style-forward middle ground.
• Inscription: Pick this if you want the most upscale presentation. The panoramic sunroof, driftwood inlays, and crystal gearshift knob give it the richest cabin experience of the three.

The Vision Package adds blind-spot detection, cross-traffic alert, and Pilot Assist, so it is the safety add-on to prioritize if you find a well-equipped example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Volvo XC40?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 39.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 291 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.68% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 78.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,375, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Volvo XC40's resale value?

The current average of $18,375 sits slightly below last year's $20,805.

That decline suggests the XC40 has already moved through a meaningful price correction, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the vehicle has been maintained.

Because the market still shows decent demand and a premium image, a clean, well-kept XC40 should remain easier to move than a neglected one. Strong equipment and a desirable trim can help support pricing, but the biggest protection against depreciation is buying carefully now.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Volvo XC40 safe?

The 2019 Volvo XC40 earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with a full array of airbags, tire pressure monitoring, whiplash protection, road-sign information updates, a rear-collision warning system, and City Safe automatic braking that can detect cars, pedestrians, and large animals. The Vision Package adds blind-spot detection, cross-traffic alert, and Pilot Assist with adaptive cruise control, while the Advanced Package adds a 360-degree camera, LED foglights with a cornering function, and automatically bending headlights.

The main caveat is visibility: the massive C-pillars create huge blind spots and make rearward visibility quite poor. That means you should pay close attention to how comfortable you feel with the sightlines during a test drive, especially if you plan to use the XC40 in tight urban driving or frequent parking situations.

Should I buy a 2019 Volvo XC40 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 39.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 78% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.68% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 XC40 stands out for bringing Volvo’s upscale design, advanced technology, and premium feel into a more affordable subcompact SUV package.

The bottom line: If you want the XC40’s distinctive styling, strong owner satisfaction, and lower current pricing, the 2019 is the right place to start. If you are especially price-sensitive, shop carefully for a clean, well-priced example and prioritize condition over options, since the best deals can move quickly.
