Used 2019 Volvo XC40 for Sale nearNashville, TN

How much does the 2019 Volvo XC40 cost?

Prices have softened 11.55% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 283 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2019 Volvo XC40 a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Volvo XC40 earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Form and function.

You get a strong mix of upscale design, ample power, and a luxurious feel, and owners also consistently praise its excellent safety features. The XC40’s distinctive styling and premium cabin character are recurring positives, along with its performance and overall sense of sophistication.

The trade-offs are just as clear: the transmission can be irritating, and visibility is poor. For you, that means the XC40 makes the most sense if you want a small SUV that feels more premium than its size suggests and you can live with a few usability compromises.

With 35.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s enough market softness to make careful shopping worthwhile.

Is the 2019 Volvo XC40 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with repeated praise for its safety, power, and luxurious character. That kind of feedback suggests you’re looking at a model that many drivers feel confident living with over time.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the XC40 delivers a tremendous amount of car for the price without diluting Volvo’s technology, features, or quality. Volvo’s Care by Volvo ownership approach also folds insurance into the monthly cost, which can simplify the ownership experience if you’re comparing it with leasing-style alternatives.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about living with the XC40’s usability quirks, especially the transmission and visibility issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Volvo XC40?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still prioritize a history report and a careful inspection, especially because the XC40’s visibility and transmission quirks can affect how the vehicle feels in everyday driving. Focus on condition, equipment, and whether the car’s tech and safety systems work as intended, since those are central to the XC40’s appeal.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Momentum is technically the base trim, but it comes well equipped with 18-inch wheels, integrated bright aluminum roof rails, LED signature headlights, a leather steering wheel and shift knob, power windows and doors, and the large 9-inch Sensus touchscreen. The R-Design adds a unique front grille, contrasting black roof, integrated dual tailpipes, a sport steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, a charcoal headliner, and ambient interior lighting. The Inscription adds unique badging, a panoramic sunroof, driftwood door inlays, and an Orrefors crystal gearshift knob.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine with 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, paired with standard all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic. The driving character is described as brisk, with well-weighted steering and responsive turn-in, but the shifter design is confusing and can make the transmission easy to misoperate.
• Safety package: The standard safety equipment includes a full array of airbags, tire pressure monitoring, whiplash protection, road-sign information updates, rear-collision warning, and City Safe automatic braking that can detect cars, pedestrians, and large animals. The Vision Package adds blind-spot detection, cross-traffic alert, and Pilot Assist with adaptive cruise control. The Advanced Package adds a 360-degree camera, LED foglights with a cornering function, and automatically bending headlights.
• Infotainment: The XC40 uses a large 9-inch portrait-oriented Sensus touchscreen. Standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto work seamlessly, and the system is designed around the screen rather than physical controls. The available Multimedia Package adds navigation and a 15-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
• Fuel efficiency: The XC40 is rated at 23 mpg city, 31 highway, and 26 combined, and the expert evaluation notes 21 mpg in real-world testing.

Which 2019 Volvo XC40 trim should I buy?

The 2019 Volvo XC40 is offered in 3 trim levels: Momentum, R-Design, Inscription.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the best-value choice if you want the XC40’s core appeal without stretching the budget. It already gives you the 9-inch touchscreen, LED signature headlights, roof rails, and the upscale basics that make the XC40 feel premium.
• R-Design: Choose this if you want a sportier look and a more tailored cabin. The unique grille, black roof, dual tailpipes, sport steering wheel, and ambient lighting make it the most style-forward middle ground.
• Inscription: Pick this if you want the most upscale presentation and the richest interior details. The panoramic sunroof, driftwood inlays, and crystal gearshift knob make it the most luxurious version.

The standard safety equipment is strong across the lineup, and the available Vision and Advanced packages add important driver-assistance and visibility upgrades.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Volvo XC40?

This looks like a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 283 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.55% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,508, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Volvo XC40's resale value?

The current average of $18,508 sits slightly below last year's $20,925.

That price movement suggests the XC40 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you may have less downside left than a buyer who paid closer to the original market peak.

The model’s premium image, strong safety reputation, and distinctive design should help it remain appealing to used shoppers who want something upscale in a small-SUV package. Still, resale will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and whether the vehicle has the equipment and history buyers want.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Volvo XC40 safe?

The 2019 Volvo XC40 earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Safety equipment is a major part of the XC40’s appeal. Standard features include a full array of airbags, tire pressure monitoring, whiplash protection, road-sign information updates, rear-collision warning, and City Safe automatic braking that can detect cars, pedestrians, and large animals.

The available Vision Package adds blind-spot detection, cross-traffic alert, and Pilot Assist with adaptive cruise control. The Advanced Package adds a 360-degree camera, LED foglights with a cornering function, and automatically bending headlights.

The main caveat is visibility: the massive C-pillars create huge blind spots and make rearward visibility quite poor. That means you should pay close attention to how the vehicle feels from the driver’s seat, especially if you do a lot of city driving or parking.

Should I buy a 2019 Volvo XC40 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.7% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 11.55% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 stands out for bringing Volvo’s upscale design, advanced tech, and premium feel into a more affordable subcompact SUV package.

The bottom line: If you want the XC40’s distinctive styling, premium cabin feel, and strong safety reputation, the 2019 is a compelling place to start. If you’re shopping primarily on price, the softened market and decent deal availability make this a good year to target. If you want to compare against a newer model year, a later XC40 may be worth considering for shoppers who prioritize a more updated ownership experience, but the 2019 still offers a strong mix of value and character.
