How much does the 2019 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have softened 5.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,327 listings available, which suggests a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2019 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Subaru Forester earns a 4.9/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its spaciousness, safety features, visibility, comfort, and all-wheel-drive capability. That lines up well with the Forester’s practical, family-friendly mission, especially if you want a compact SUV that’s easy to live with and built for everyday utility.

The main trade-offs are fairly pedestrian performance and uninspired styling. In other words, if you care most about usefulness, confidence, and comfort rather than quick acceleration or flashy design, this year’s Forester fits the brief well.

35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2019 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback also points to dependable, trouble-free ownership themes, with repeated praise for the Forester’s spaciousness, safety, comfort, and all-wheel-drive confidence. That kind of feedback matters because it suggests the vehicle is doing the everyday jobs buyers count on without much drama.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes Subaru’s long-standing reputation for reliability and the Forester’s smooth, easygoing character. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright complexity and more about making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been cared for properly.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Subaru Forester?

At 72.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the vehicle’s equipment and electronics work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim comes quite well equipped, with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, 60/40 split-fold rear seats, a multifunction display, dual front USB ports, and an under-floor storage tray. Premium adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic moonroof, 10-way power front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, reclining rear seatbacks, a backseat fold-down armrest with cupholders, and 4G Wi-Fi capability. Sport adds unique styling touches, larger front disc brakes, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, a windshield wiper de-icer, push-button start, heated front seats, dual USB ports for the second row, paddle shifters, and an upgraded color multi-function display. Limited adds leather upholstery, a power rear tailgate, dual-zone climate control, and the larger 8-inch touchscreen. Touring adds LED fog lights, satin chrome side mirrors with integrated turn signals, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, navigation, and one-touch quick-release folding rear seats.
• Powertrain: The Forester uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine with 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and standard symmetrical AWD. Subaru’s SI-Drive is standard across the lineup, and X-Mode is standard on all trims, with dual-mode X-Mode on Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring. The trade-off is underwhelming acceleration, especially if you’re expecting stronger passing power.
• Safety package: EyeSight is standard on every trim and includes forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, adaptive headlights, lane-keeping Assist, Lead Vehicle Alert, a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, and a reversing camera. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited and Touring.
• Infotainment: The Base and Premium trims use a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while the Sport can be optioned with the larger screen. Limited and Touring come standard with an 8-inch touchscreen, and the system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The infotainment is responsive and easy to use, with high-resolution graphics and seamless switching between the native system and smartphone integration.
• Fuel efficiency: The Forester returns 26 mpg city, 33 highway, and 29 combined.

Which 2019 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2019 Subaru Forester is offered in 5 trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value play if you want the essentials without paying for extras. You still get standard LED headlights, symmetrical AWD, EyeSight, a 6.5-inch touchscreen, and the practical cabin features that make the Forester easy to live with.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a panoramic moonroof, 10-way power front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, reclining rear seatbacks, and 4G Wi-Fi capability without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Sport: Choose this if you want the most distinctive look and a few useful upgrades, including heated front seats, push-button start, a windshield wiper de-icer, paddle shifters, and dual USB ports for the second row.
• Limited: This is the trim to target if you want the most balanced mix of comfort and convenience, with leather upholstery, a power rear tailgate, dual-zone climate control, the larger 8-inch touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
• Touring: Pick this if you want the most features, including heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, navigation, and the most upscale cabin presentation.

Every trim includes EyeSight, and the Limited and Touring add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Subaru Forester?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully and still find a solid deal.

• Deal availability: 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,327 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.58% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 72.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,695, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $18,790 sits slightly below last year's $19,901.

That price movement suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, which can put some pressure on future resale if you plan to sell soon. At the same time, the Forester’s practical reputation and broad appeal help support demand among shoppers who want a dependable, easy-to-own compact SUV.

If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and maintain it well, you’re more likely to stay competitive when it’s time to list it. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2019 Subaru Forester earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes standard with EyeSight, which includes forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, adaptive headlights, lane-keeping Assist, and Lead Vehicle Alert. It also includes a full array of front- and side-impact airbags and a reversing camera, and the Forester’s strong visibility adds another layer of everyday confidence.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on the Limited and Touring trims, so those versions give you a little more driver-assistance coverage. The safety story is especially strong here because the equipment is standard across the lineup, not reserved only for the top trims.

Should I buy a 2019 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 35.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 72.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.58% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 Forester pairs standard AWD, standard EyeSight, and easy-to-use tech with a practical, family-friendly layout.

The bottom line: If you want a used Forester with strong safety equipment, standard all-wheel drive, and broad everyday appeal, the 2019 is a sensible choice. If your priority is finding the lowest possible price, you may want to compare nearby model years and focus on whichever one gives you the best combination of condition, equipment, and deal quality.
