Overview

The Nissan GT-R, a hardtop coupe first introduced in 2007, boasts great styling, impressive handling, and enough power and speed to make everyone from Aston Martin to Ferrari sit up and take notice. For 2019, it carries over with no notable changes.
Beneath the sharply styled exterior, which still looks fresh and high tech, there’s a roomy pair of front seats and two occasional-use seats in the rear. However, trunk space is tight, with only 8.8 cubic feet of cargo space available.
At the heart of every GT-R is a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 engine, which produces 565 horsepower and 467 pound-feet of torque. There’s also a more powerful tune, available with the NISMO trim, that creates 600 hp and 481 lb-ft. The motor is bolted to a rear-mounted 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). The GT-R includes an intelligent all-wheel-drive (AWD) system along with a selector with three driving modes, Normal, R-Mode, and Save, and Brembo performance brakes.
Four trim levels are available for the GT-R: Pure, Premium, Track Edition, and NISMO. The base Pure trim comes with 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels, hand-stitched leather-and-suede upholstery, LED headlights, keyless access and start, an 8-inch infotainment system with navigation and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone automatic climate control, satellite radio, an 8-way power driver’s seat, a 4-way power passenger’s seat, heated front seats, and six speakers. The Premium trim adds a titanium exhaust with exhaust sound control, a Bose audio system, and active noise cancellation. The Track Edition comes with a NISMO-tuned suspension, a carbon-fiber trunk lid, NISMO super lightweight alloy wheels, and a black-on-red interior treatment. The NISMO trim comes with the more powerful engine, a NISMO aerodynamic body kit, and NISMO Recaro seats.
Possibly owing to its age, the GT-R offers limited safety equipment, including a basic suite of airbags and a standard reversing camera. It hasn’t been tested by any major agency, but that’s not abnormal for low-volume performance cars.
The Nissan GT-R can hold its own against cars costing twice as much. Despite its age, it is a worthy addition to any enthusiast’s garage.
