What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Nissan Altima?

At 53.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a prior collision. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, tire wear, and how well the technology and driver-assistance features operate in real-world use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S comes with Zero Gravity seats, push-button start, an 8-way power driver’s seat, four USB ports, satellite radio, and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SV adds more comfort and convenience features, including heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power moonroof, and automatic climate control, while the Platinum adds the most upscale equipment, including a 360-degree surround-view monitor and interior accent lighting.
• Powertrain: You get a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder with 188 horsepower, while the SR and Platinum are available with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder that aims to deliver V6-like power with 4-cylinder efficiency. Both engines use a CVT, and the car is available with front-wheel drive or AWD.
• Safety package: ProPilot Assist is standard on the SV, SL, and Platinum trims, while forward-collision warning and driver-alertness monitoring are standard on every Altima. The standard safety equipment also includes front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, vehicle dynamics control, and a reversing camera.
• Infotainment: The Altima uses NissanConnect with an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and hard controls below the screen. Every trim also gets a 7-inch color Drive Assist display between the gauges.
• Fuel efficiency: The base 2.5-liter engine returns 28 mpg city and 39 mpg highway, while the turbocharged 2.0-liter is expected to return 25 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. AWD lowers the base engine’s fuel economy to 25 mpg city and 35 mpg highway.

Which 2019 Nissan Altima trim should I buy?

The 2019 Nissan Altima is offered in 5 trim levels: S, SR, SV, SL, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value play if you want the essentials, including the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the comfortable Zero Gravity seats. It gives you the core Altima experience at the lowest entry point.
• SR: This trim adds a sportier look with 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, a rear spoiler, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters. It suits you if you want more style without jumping to the higher trims.
• SV: This is the best-value trim because it adds a strong mix of comfort and convenience features, including heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a power moonroof, automatic climate control, and ProPilot Assist. If you want the most equipment for the money, this is the one to target.
• SL: This trim leans more upscale with leather seating, a Bose premium sound system, and navigation with live traffic updates. It makes sense if you want a more premium cabin without going all the way to the top.
• Platinum: This is the most fully equipped version, adding a 360-degree surround-view monitor, memory settings for the driver’s seat, and interior accent lighting. It’s the right pick if you want the most features and don’t mind paying for them.

ProPilot Assist is standard on the SV, SL, and Platinum trims, so those versions are the ones to focus on if driver assistance matters to you.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Nissan Altima?

The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay patient.

• Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,363 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.99% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,455, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Nissan Altima's resale value?

The current average of $13,455 sits slightly below last year's $14,948.

That decline suggests the Altima has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the current average or below it, you may have less downside left than a buyer who paid closer to the original market peak.

The softer pricing also means resale will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment level. Well-kept examples with desirable features should be easier to move than rougher cars with accident history or missing equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Nissan Altima safe?

The 2019 Nissan Altima earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include front- and side-impact airbags, traction control, vehicle dynamics control, and a reversing camera. Nissan also makes forward-collision warning and driver-alertness monitoring standard on every Altima, while ProPilot Assist is standard on the SV, SL, and Platinum trims.

That means you can get a solid baseline of safety equipment even in lower trims, but you’ll need to move up the lineup for the full driver-assistance suite. If safety tech is a priority, the SV and above are the trims to focus on.

Should I buy a 2019 Nissan Altima or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.99% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 is all-new and brings premium interior materials plus easy-to-use technology.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $14,156, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $13,455 average.
• It makes the Safety Shield 360 package more widely available.

The bottom line: If you want the lower price and strong value story, the 2019 is the better buy. If you’re willing to pay more for broader safety availability, the 2020 is the cleaner upgrade path.
