Once a pure workhorse, the pickup has taken on the duties of family hauler, road trip cruiser, and rolling daycare. Buyers expect a modern pickup to be able to tow and haul with the best of them, while also being as comfortable as a sedan. The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Limited exhibits these attributes well. With an all-new, redesigned Sierra arriving in dealerships, the Sierra Limited might look familiar. That’s because this is the old Sierra. General Motors will often sell the outgoing generation of a vehicle under the “Classic,” or in this case “Limited,” badges. It’s the previous-generation Sierra, sold as a 2019, but that’s not to say it’s a dated vehicle. The Sierra Limited has easy-to-use infotainment and plenty of creature comforts to make it a pickup fit for daily driving. While the new Sierra features bold styling, the Sierra Limited is timeless by comparison. The straight lines, squared off headlights, and grille give it an understated confidence. The Sierra comes with a helpful bed step-up built into the corner of the rear bumper. Unlike retractable steps from rival trucks, the corner step is a simple solution, with no moving parts. Unlike other trucks, the Sierra Limited is only offered as the double cab with the standard bed. The Sierra Limited features a cabin that is both handsome and functional. It’s rife with cubbies and compartments and the center compartment is large enough for a tablet or laptop. Trims for the Sierra Limited are Base and SLE. The Base trim comes standard with 17-inch steel wheels, cab-mounted cargo lights, and an EZ lift-and-lower tailgate. Inside, the Sierra Limited comes with Bluetooth connectivity, a reversing camera, and a 7-inch touchscreen. It runs an infotainment system that is easy to use, and comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The SLE adds LED cargo box lighting, a remote locking tailgate, 17-inch aluminum wheels, and heated power side mirrors. Inside, the SLE adds a 4.2-inch color driver information display, a larger 8-inch infotainment screen, built-in 4G WiFi hotspot, steering wheel audio controls, and remote keyless entry. The Sierra Limited is also available as the Elevation Edition. It adds a unique grille with chrome accents; body-color side moldings, bumpers and door handles; black tow hooks; and blacked out 20-inch wheels. The Elevation Edition also features thin-profile LED fog lights, “Elevation” badging, and remote start. The benefit of going with the older Sierra Limited over the new 2019 Sierra is standard V8 power. No matter what trim you select, the Sierra Limited comes equipped with a 5.3-liter V8 making 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. This is a flex-fuel-capable engine, and features Active Fuel Management, which can shut down half the cylinders. Power is sent through a 6-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels or available four-wheel drive (4WD). Both setups come with a locking rear differential for added RWD traction. When properly equipped with the Max Trailering Package, the Sierra Limited can tow up to 11,100 pounds. Fuel economy for the 5.3-liter V8 with RWD is 15 mpg city, 22 mpg highway, and 17 combined. Opting for 4WD carries a minimal penalty, with fuel economy estimates of 15 mpg city, 21 highway, and 17 combined. The Sierra Limited comes standard with a tire-pressure monitoring system, a reversing camera, stability control, and the Teen Driver system. The Sierra Limited may simplify the typical truck a la carte menu down to a few options, but you get a lot for the money. Standard V8 power, a standard infotainment system, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto ensure the 2019 GMC Sierra Limited is a tremendous value.
